Do What You Love

It's really not that hard,
To know where you stand,
What you love and what you love to do,
All very easy to understand,

It's the forces trying to thwart you,
And I'm not talking about society,
It's often cited as an oppressive force,
But it is often what you want it to be,

Or rather, you can work it how you want,
Which may mean compromising others,
To do what you were meant to,
Maybe 'not that hard' is really 'harder'.

Because there is more than you,
We live in a community,
And we have to figure how to live,
While surviving reality.

What Stress Gets You

How can a life be lived,
In that ball that you call stress,
Stifling every feeling you can have,
Into discomfortness?

And what good does it all do you?
I know, we've said this before,
But, there really shouldn't be much use for stress,
Unless you're running from a wild boar.

So, here you are, pumping your veins full,
Shortening an already very short life,
Unless you learn to erase the desperate feeling,
That your hands are tied,

And that to be alright,
You have to hold on to all this shit,
You bought with money you don't even have,
With nowhere to put it.

The Leap of Change

There is a fine line,
Between where you are and are going to be,
Though that line is as opaque,
As your stomach lining,

But don't wait until that lining fails,
You should have changed, far before that.
Have you forgotten the magic of birth,
Learned so far in the past?

Change, just change, what's stopping you?
Money and responsibility?
They only have meaning in the context of,
Your current way of living.

And it's alright if you're afraid,
No change comes without fear,
Just as no change comes with a guarantee,
That the same thoughts are always near.

Grieving's 7 Steps

Yes, it is quite shocking,
To learn that life, 'til now, has been a waste,
Which leads to pain, and a guilt about,
How you may have acted in haste,

But guard against lashing out,
In your anger at what you've become,
Just lick your wounds, and start to reflect,
In sad isolation,

Only then, can you start to see,
The only way to go is up,
You then can see who are your true loved ones,
And begin to create your own luck,

Then it will be alright,
The world you'll live in will be new,
With opportunities, not available,
In the one you started too soon.

The Break In Between

There needs to be some breaks,
From what you do every day,
For variety, for certainty,
But, more to keep depression at bay,

To get a perspective on what you do,
From someone else other than others,
So you can reflect, using the benefit,
Of the minds of two lovers,

The one, of how things are and always should be,
In contrast to the one,
Who longs for no stability,
And constant revolution.

And it's alright,
They will have their spats,
It's the moments in between that define life,
And give meaning to all the facts.

The Capitalist Revolution

What's all this fuss about money?
What good did it do anyone?
The rich spend their days holding onto it,
And the rest want a revolution.

Sometimes, in moments of freedom,
I imagine imagining,
Living my life, in my present condition,
Not thinking about money,

Which is how some people do it,
Though, it catches up to you in the end,
Because banks, unenlightenedly,
Worry about dividends.

But, alright,
What should a modern revolution be?
Maybe the way to topple this system,
Is to just forget about money.

The Infinite Cage

Why don't you think outside the box,
When you think about how far you've come,
And all the paths you've passed up,
And subsequent delusion,

About the options you have?
You have no less than anyone,
Who has taken chances in their life,
And tackled their vocation.

And all those ties that bind,
And responsibilities that restrict,
Your desire for a new life,
May be just the kick,

In the pants, (alright?)
That you need to decide,
That no cage is so small,
That you can't explore the inside.

Ennui

The crisp mist through which you must push,
On the darkened, empty streets,
On your way to the place you'd rather,
Not meet,

In this journey you'd rather not be on,
For the regrets it piles on your mind,
For love, for money and for your heart's desires,
And for someone to be kind,

Invites you to never stop your wheels,
To never stop until you're too far away,
To honor the oaths you swore when the sun was high,
Shining on the fresh leaves, as they swayed.

Alright,
So, now, what are you going to do?
You really can just cast it all away.
It really is just about you.

Get Fit

You may be getting older,
And your body is sagging down,
Demanding more of you for what you're used to,
Unless you are proud,

Of the marks of a life not lived,
With the respect that perhaps it deserved,
For the vessel taking you,
Through this tough and unknown world.

The bulging stomach and the slower gait,
Makes you look like you are transforming,
Into another species, is that what you want,
To be your life's theming?

It's alright,
If you say, "yes, I do."
Every life is privy to one person,
And your life is privy to you.

What You Tried

You've tried working for others,
Who do things just for love,
For hardly any return,
You could monetarily think of,

And then you went to the man,
Who was generous, within his means,
Which did not include spare time,
Or money, when things were lean,

And then there was the government,
Which demanded you close your mind,
Lest you really start to ponder,
What your concience might find.

And now you're alright,
Doing what you love to do,
And you have cash and time and pride,
Which is all-deserving to you.

Maintaining Awe

How do you want to improve?
Do you want to use some facts,
Collected by others and yourself,
So you can react,

To the comparisons that come out,
Because that is all there is?
How else can you know where you're at,
Without some orientation?

And once you've succeeded in seeing yourself,
Amidst the garden of flowers in which you live,
Will you know where you want to go,
Or will you be happy with where you exist?

All questions, alright,
Because that is all there is.
It's when you start to answer them,
That you cease to be curious.

Change for the Better

When do you know you've changed?
What are the facts that point it out?
Who can know you so well to know, too?
Why do you even doubt,

That change is something that you need?
It's what everybody wants.
No one is truly happy,
Or it'd infect the whole rotten lot,

And would sweep the world, like some kind of cult,
And followers would rise up fast,
Though, not themselves able to truly match,
The same life-changing act.

So, you're alright,
Where you are, or where you go,
And you don't have to think about whether you've changed,
When you do, you will just know.

What Are You Going To Do?

If you want changes,
Don't look at me,
That requires some kind of effort,
Internally.

And it's hard, I know,
When reality is structured this way,
Thrusting you into an unknown world,
That does not shed a ray,

Of light on why we're here at all,
So we must create our own meaning.
But now you can jump into life,
Now that you know what everyone's feeling,

Which is not alright,
They're anxious, too,
Not sure if they're where they should be,
But not knowing what to do.

Change, Please

There is no idea too big,
For this world to hold.
Well, it may change the world,
So, it is too big, all told.

But, what doesn't change the world?
Doesn't the day I met you,
Still revisit my mind,
When before all I could do,

Was wonder about if there was,
Someone so unlike me,
That there would be proof that I exist,
Just in her being seen.

And that's life, alright?
Changing and searching, non-stop,
And if you never thirst for either,
You will never be on top.

The Next Stage

Sometimes you have to wonder,
What is out there for you,
When all you have is what you have,
With nothing to do,

With nothing that saves you from the precipice,
Of going just a little too far,
And sticking out your neck a little too much,
So that people see who you are,

And offer you the ability,
To change everything around you,
Again and again and again, again,
Until there is nothing new,

Only alright,
Because consistency breeds ennui,
And nothing bores you more than constant change,
And uncertainty.

Changes

When you really want to change,
You never will,
Because you don't know who you are, yet,
And need to interfere,

With the way you choose to see the world,
As your own, and not someone else's,
And you have complete control,
No matter what society says.

Sure, you may be on a train,
That you hope stays on the tracks,
But what you do and where you look,
Is not a matter of chance.

Then it will be alright,
You'll finally get it right,
And know it's not about changing yourself.
Then you'll see the light.

New Directions

Yes, things can change,
Don't let anyone tell you not.
People turn and pucks bounce,
And festering issues rot,

And bitterness grows,
Larger than your body can take,
While those around you quickly turn their backs,
'Cause they have better deals to make,

And better things to do,
Than spend time around you.
Things can change, like a tsunami,
Swaps the spots of cars and sloops.

But, it's alright,
Change doesn't have to be bad.
Floods can wash away a lot of dirt,
And you get new perspectives from being sad.
