Death Bed Regrets

It is never too late,
I've seen it so many times,
People who seem so old,
Completely changing their life,

At least, in the eyes of others,
For, five thousand times out of five thousand and one,
Those people knew who they were in their heart,
And were waiting for their life to catch on.

And what are the regrets of those,
Who on their death bed realize,
That they would have lived differently,
If they were then, as wise?

That it would have been alright,
If they followed their dreams,
Despite the risk, despite the fear,
Despite how the world seems.

What Can You Do?

Think of all the achievements,
Made by some people,
So much in such a short life,
Yours are so simple,

But then think of others,
Who have done nothing.
Are not your wins and goals astronomical,
And make you feel like something?

Then there's the sum of everything,
That's been done by all of humankind,
Throughout its relatively short history.
And that's only the one world we can find.

And suddenly, it's alright,
There's no need to compare yourself,
To anyone or anything.
Just do what comes to mind first.

Doing What You Want

If at first you don't succeed,
You have a choice to make:
Try, try again,
Or reevaluate,

What it is you're trying to do,
Because it just might not be,
Suited to who you are,
Or your capacity,

And if you know you still want to,
Do it, no matter what,
Just make sure you can survive in this world,
Without that notch,

Because, though it would be alright,
If we could be what we want to be,
That's sometimes not an option,
In this economic reality.

Reconciling the Fissure

What will you become,
In the fissure between,
Who you are to the world,
And what you want to be,

When you have so much responsibility,
You feel towards how its run,
While still needing to maintain,
Your own situation,

When you're handed the laws by which,
You must live to survive,
As truly human,
And worthy of hire?

Are you alright?
Are there too many restraints,
Keeping you from being,
What everyone says you ain't?

The Cold Wind

Coldness will never tell you,
Of the mistakes in the past,
It made that at the time it knew,
The consequences,

But its nature would not allow,
The abandonment of such acts,
Even though, with the sun and earth,
It had made a pact,

For the cold wind is just that,
And if it never touched skin,
And slowed down the least prepared for attack,
There would be depression,

For what it could have been,
If it didn't listen,
To what those were saying who,
Demanded restriction.

Why Following Your Heart Is Dangerous

When something is coming,
You don't want to see,
But you can't close your eyes,
Or you'd run into a tree,

You can always change your direction.
Oh, yes you can,
Even if you are deathly afraid,
That you can't,

That, if you did, you'd fail utterly,
As everyone observed,
And now you're too far away for help,
And they wouldn't help you if they could,

Because you tried to be alright,
Taking the less traveled path,
And might have showed them that it can be done,
And no one likes to see that.

Maximizing On Humanity's Potential Horizons

Some people argue that character,
Is knowing what your actions,
Could possibly lead to,
And exercising restrictions,

To what you may want to do,
But which might lead to hurting others,
And that way, no guilt will ever visit you,
And you will also have honours,

From those who observe you and you will also,
Be sought out for special tasks,
That require someone that you can trust.
Doesn't everyone want that?

Yes, alright,
Maybe character is enviable.
Though, you deny yourself that human feeling,
Of regretting your true potential.

Demand the Best

It's alright to say,
That someone's not up to par.
In fact, if you are actually saying that,
Then you may have just raised the bar,

And disallowed the type of activity,
That has led to failure in the past.
It's alright to demand a good showing,
Even if you look like an ass,

Because if you don't then it just might happen,
That you'll be judged by the company you keep,
By those who will accept no less that the best,
While you're happy with mediocre feats.

And it's not alright,
To just ignore the problem.
It's much easier to drag people down,
Than to make them rise to the occasion.

Relatively Tragic

All these other worlds,
Are variations of your own,
If you assume that everyone sees the same things,
And that all the same things are known.

But it could be that there's a different knowledge,
Embedded in a different sort,
Rendering a wholly different experience,
Significantly short,

Of what you think there really is.
Isn't that depressing?
That there are things under the sky you can never know,
Just because of your positioning.

And it's kind of alright,
That they'll never know what you know, too,
Until you reflect upon the fact that there will always be,
People better off than you.

What Do You Want From Life?

When the moment of truth finally comes,
And every moment after that,
Promises to determine the shade of your life,
Do you really want to act?

Do you really want to push the issue?
For consider this:
Though you might be always wondering, 'what if',
At least you won't wish,

You had never crossed that threshold,
For, even if it's what you always dreamed,
Reality never offers what you anticipate,
And what you want is never coupled with ease.

And it's alright,
Not to take the leap of faith,
People in this world generally don't,
Except those who are considered great.

Connecting

Sometimes there is just no way,
To form a connection,
No enthusiasm, or real reason,
Outside of the desire of one person,

Who is ignoring that the desire,
Ignores any commonality,
Other than being human,
And in the same vicinity.

But, like life itself, there is no telling,
What any moment can bring,
If you are open to the chance that,
Life can bring anything.

But it's alright,
If you already have everything you could need,
From life, as it is.
Consider yourself extremely lucky.

Success

What key is required for progress?
Is it natural capacity,
Or being in the right place at the right time,
Privilege, or all three,

Or just two, or is there even such a thing,
Without a twist of mind,
To interpret one's situation,
As a celestial sign?

And how does one maximize on the odds?
Like anything, hard work is the key.
Or is it? Not every story of trial and toil,
Is a story of victory.

It must be alright,
Because between all of these,
There's a way to feel like a success,
No matter how it seems.
