Forever Young

What you've already passed,
Seems so far in the past,
It always does.
That's existence.

And you'll never believe those,
Who have been where you are,
That the road ahead is long,
Just like those earlier,

You've spoken to,
And who don't believe you,
That if you knew then what you know now,
Everything would be new.

But you're alright,
And always will be,
Just like you're forever young,
For an eternity.

No Chance

There it goes again:
Time and all its potential.
Before you know it, there'll be nothing left,
And with regret, you will be full,

For things you didn't do, which some argue,
Is worse, than for things you did.
"But, society leaves nothing left for ourselves,"
You say on your death bed,

Which may be true if you try to be responsible,
To the activities,
Which are demanded to maintain this system,
Of inequities.

And it's alright,
No one's saying there's an alternative.
Either you live in this world or you,
Live life as a fugitive.

To Do List

How can it possibly be,
With all the time you have,
That you could ever not have enough of it,
To get completed, your tasks?

Could it be because other people,
Are working in their own time,
And require things, regardless of,
How I schedule mine?

And suddenly this thing that shouldn't exist,
Becomes the most powerful word you can say,
Demanding you put off until tomorrow,
What you'd rather do today.

And it's alright,
You make demands on others, I guess.
That's the price of collaboration,
Coupled with selfishness.

Make Time

There is no time,
To think about how little time there is,
Or reflect upon how unfair,
Is existence,

Or how society has determined,
The amount of hours that is acceptable,
That you spend at work, which is most of your life,
Because you have to pay the bills,

Unless you're rich enough to have someone pay them,
Or poor enough that they don't apply.
Really, the middle class is just what it needed,
Once slavery was run dry.

And it's alright,
The point is really not about how you're screwed,
It's about living each moment like it's your last,
'Cause you don't know when your time is due.

Expectation

Not everything can happen in time,
And even less in yours.
If you're looking for something to happen,
Don't look for it within a course,

Of events, and definitely not,
In a specific spot within.
You're lucky if it happens at all,
And should be surprised at its position.

And when it happens, thank the lord,
Or whoever you might think gave it life,
Because, in truth, it could have just as easily not happened,
Regardless of your strife.

And it's alright,
Another trick to avoid disappointment,
Is to wish for nothing at all.
Doesn't that sound like pure enjoyment?

Where To Go

There is so much more,
To do in this life,
Than you have ever done,
Or even considered at the height,

Of your considerations on what you do.
Have you thought about the different kinds,
Of activities that help other people,
Or the places you might find,

Where there are needs for someone like you?
Maybe not, the road most traveled.
Remember that your paths are not prescribed,
Or sentenced by a judges gavel.

And it's alright,
No matter where you are,
The possibilities are just as infinite,
So do what makes you feel you've gone far.

Before Time Starts Again

Every day will pass,
Just as some never end,
Just like there will always be poor,
And war and famine,

And when you wake up in the morning and you are,
Tired beyond belief,
With all this living stuff, try to remember,
The tree doesn't lament the loss of a leaf,

Unless it's not the season.
There really is no comfort,
When your body aches before its time,
Or your life is cut short.

But it's alright,
There's always the after-life,
Whether you're conscious at that time or not,
It's a comfort until you find out what's right.

It's Soon

It is any day now,
And it's like time has stood still,
And you don't know what it's going to be like after,
So, what is life until,

That moment, and what is that moment, too?
Where is it you are residing?
Or, perhaps you should just appreciate now,
What you are experiencing.

And when the time comes that it's all in the past,
You can remember that you were once,
Someone completely different than who you are now,
And that in identity there's no permanence.

And it's alright,
Life is full of these little things,
That make you question what it's all about,
And makes you pray for no endings.

Time's Up

No, you can't make time,
But, also, you can't use it up,
And if you think that time's wasting away,
It's not.

In the time in which you've understood,
The time it takes to do a given thing,
The horizon of time keeps opening up,
Allowing you to do anything.

And when the moment comes that it all seems gone,
When everything you've hoped for has been spent,
You may believe that time has all run out,
But that's not what you meant,

'Cause it's alright,
You're always already done,
What you just did, but that just opens up,
Time for what has just begun.
