A Hundred Objects Close By

Look at what has happened,
Happiness in your eyes,
Melting into the rest of you,
Despite all the lies,

That perception hands to you,
Beauty, it cannot deny,
The only proof of truth,
And the only knife,

We welcome into ourselves,
Happy to give our life,
Over to the ecstasy,
Of the thoughtless, innocent highs,

Of existence. All is right,
You can't deny this:
That beauty can always be found,
In whatever you're amidst.

How To Make A Difference

I wish I could be everything,
I would like to be,
But this world will not allow it,
And it's not society,

As much as I would like it to be,
It's something to do with,
The physical impossibility of,
Self replication, to wit,

The power to create more time than there is,
Because no accomplishment comes without,
More than half your waking hours,
If you're really devout.

And it's alright,
If you'd rather trudge along with hundreds of dreams,
And get joy from jumping little hurdles,
That lead to nothing.

What Are You Going To Do?

If you want changes,
Don't look at me,
That requires some kind of effort,
Internally.

And it's hard, I know,
When reality is structured this way,
Thrusting you into an unknown world,
That does not shed a ray,

Of light on why we're here at all,
So we must create our own meaning.
But now you can jump into life,
Now that you know what everyone's feeling,

Which is not alright,
They're anxious, too,
Not sure if they're where they should be,
But not knowing what to do.

Change, Please

There is no idea too big,
For this world to hold.
Well, it may change the world,
So, it is too big, all told.

But, what doesn't change the world?
Doesn't the day I met you,
Still revisit my mind,
When before all I could do,

Was wonder about if there was,
Someone so unlike me,
That there would be proof that I exist,
Just in her being seen.

And that's life, alright?
Changing and searching, non-stop,
And if you never thirst for either,
You will never be on top.

How to Commemorate

Once you start brainstorming,
You have to know when to stop,
Or you may leave your first intent,
Or plan something over and above,

What is actually possible.
This is not rare.
If everything thought was actually made,
There'd be no room up in here,

And you don't want to live just in your mind,
Even though that may be all there is,
Because within it there's still this division,
Between fantasy and existence.

And it's alright,
If that's alright for you.
Some people are happy thinking of projects,
While not wanting anything to do.

The World As We Know It

You are never in,
The life that you're in,
For it is only ever the projection,
Of your imagination,

And when you want to get out of it,
Well, that's a conundrum,
'Cause there is nowhere to actually go,
That isn't still an illusion,

Unless you create another one,
Within the one you've been constructin',
Except, rather than having a structure,
It's at your brain's whim,

Which is alright,
If you don't want to live,
But if pain isn't that repugnant to you,
Then life's your only alternative.

Revolutionary Alternatives

When you feel like you are being,
Unfairly compromised,
And that your life is not your own,
And your rights are being denied,

You can't think or say,
What you want,
For how you will affect others,
And the government,

You may try another tack,
As some say,
And adress the conditions that led,
To things being this way,
And, hopefully, that will be alright,
Enough for you to vent,
The frustrations you are feeling,
Of how your life has went.

Learning From the Moment

There is nothing as important,
As what you're doing as ya,
Read this. Not the cries of your loved ones,
Or the hurting in libya,

Despite the money that you don't have,
Or the secrets you're trying to hide,
From people you are trying to impress,
And to whom you lied,

Much more crucial than your dreams,
All of this is on the same plane,
Of reality, which is none at all,
Compared to what's occupying your brain,

Which is the moment, right?
There is nothing else,
Treat the rest with the same respect,
And you may finally understand yourself.

The World of Good Intent

Has anyone ever lived in a world,
Where no one thought ill,
Of anyone or anything,
And the sun always shone on window sills,

The birds always sang,
And disasters never came,
Without a universal understanding,
That we are all the same,

And live under one sky?
Was there ever anyone,
In this world who imagined that,
This isn't the situation?

And is it alright,
That I have lost that naivety,
And am suffused with distrust,
And anxiety?

Change Is Only Inside Of You

People never change,
Even if you think you've seen,
A miraculous transformation.
It's all in the believing,

Which is in you, or maybe isn't,
You have a lifetime to figure out,
Because, either way, you'll always be that way,
And the trick is not to doubt,

Your powers of observation,
And to know where you're coming from,
And if you do that, you can rule the insecure majority,
Of this population.

And it's alright,
That you haven't risen above,
You probably wouldn't want the responsibilty,
Given the person your constitution.

It's Not A Matter Of Scale - You're Nothing

Yes, we're all insignificant,
When you stop to ponder,
As Pascal did before,
The immeasurable wonder,

Of the universe's size,
And the fact that our planet,
Compared to some worlds out there,
Is as a mountain to an ant.

And he went the other way, too,
And observed our immense size,
When we look through a microscope,
At the cells of a fly,

But, that's not quite right.
It's an issue of quantity, not mass,
And anyway you cut it,
We're a miniscule class.

The Secret To Enjoying Life

Life offers many opportunities,
To enjoy it,
Though they are all in the moment,
And need to end to appreciate,

What it was that it gave to you,
And that appreciation also often means,
Depression sets in because you've lost it,
And have to search for new beginnings.

And you often also realize,
That those moments of enjoyment,
Were not perfect and some things have to change,
Which is a predicament,

Because you're not alright,
The dragon will never be caught,
And life will continue, and you will get old,
Whether you like it or not.

A Jumble

Everything is alright,
It always is,
Except when you are taken by force,
And the oppression never eases,

It's then that you are tested ultimately,
On your decision to interpret,
Every moment as meant to be,
As if it'll lead to some conquest,

That will redeem you from all life's shit,
Though there is one question to ask,
'If your victory hasn't yet come,
What's the point of all of it?'

And you're right, it's alright,
Everything happpens for a reason,
Bad things happen because there are bad people,
And has nothing to do with redemption.

The Ups and Downs are Not Real

It all changes so quickly,
Doesn't it?
But, then, it doesn't really, at all,
Just your perception of it,

And even that is relying upon,
The assumption that what you see is,
More than just your seeing,
Of it,

Which in the end doesn't matter at all,
Only how intense is the pain,
And sometimes when I think of where we have been,
I want to cut out my own brain.

Both really and metaphorically, alright?
It hasn't done me much good anyway,
Between the choices and the infinitesimal,
Amount of information retained.

How To Change Everything

If you want to change the world,
Like anything else,
You have to change the things around it,
Starting with yourself,

Though to do that, you have to change the world,
For that's what's around you,
Which, of course, leads to the ultimate question:
'What's a poor boy to do?'

Well, there's always the things inside you,
Which arguably, you are around,
Which, to change, you have to change yourself.
Look at where we have been found.

Back to the beginning, right?
How do you change anything?
It must be a spontaneous act of change,
By absolutely everything.

Getting Away From Yourself Is To Define Yourself

The longer you are outside,
The farther you are away,
From the things you know intimately.
And if you were to drive the car away,

To those places you only know,
From pictures you have seen,
That have stolen your heart and mind,
And you imagine are relaxing,

You'll find you cannot even find yourself,
Because you're running away,
With your soul, out of your body.
Reality's made this way.

You're alright,
Even if you've lost all you have,
Because you're not the sum of your possessions,
You're what you think is contraband.

How You Get By With Your Love

What is it you can believe?
It depends on where you start.
Do you believe those closest to you really exist,
Or are they just a part,

Of the scenery, like a tree,
Or the government?
Do you exist as part of,
Or despite of it?

Is your joy derived from loving others?
And, if it is,
Is that because you want to better their lives,
Or feel better because of it?

And you'll be alright,
Whether you care or not,
For others or yourself,
If what you're doing, you like a lot.

The Bad Does Come With the Good

Nothing is ever permanent,
Event the thought that nothing is,
And one moment you can feel on top of the world,
Like it's made for you, as if,

It's only a projection of your mind,
And you mold it as you like,
Until you lose control and feel like a player,
In some god's game night.

And do you want this nuance to disappear?
Do you want to know it all?
Or feel like you do, I think some do,
It's called being fanatical.

So, it's alright,
If you're feeling as small as a pea.
That's the privilege of being human:
Knowing you won't always be.

You're a Moving Target

Things change so quickly,
There is no time to change,
Because there's no time to settle in,
To identify the range,

That your bundle of perceptions fit in,
You're a moving target,
And if you think that's not the case,
Have you figured yourself out, yet?

And if you have, then ask yourself,
"Who's done the figuring?"
And then figure out who that is,
And while you're fumbling,

Remember, you're alright,
The point's not to know who you are,
But who you want to be,
Which doesn't have to be far.

Danger All Around

You don't have a safety net,
Not matter what you do,
Or, if you do, it must be,
All around you,

Tight against your skin, stopping you,
From moving into any harm's way,
And coated with a material so thick,
It keeps all harm at bay,

Because there is no way to know which way you'll fall,
Or what might fall on you,
When life is so uncertain,
As is everything that you do.

But it's alright,
Everyone is in the same boat,
And, really, the only way to be safe,
Is to just take a leap of hope.
