Get Fit

You may be getting older,
And your body is sagging down,
Demanding more of you for what you're used to,
Unless you are proud,

Of the marks of a life not lived,
With the respect that perhaps it deserved,
For the vessel taking you,
Through this tough and unknown world.

The bulging stomach and the slower gait,
Makes you look like you are transforming,
Into another species, is that what you want,
To be your life's theming?

It's alright,
If you say, "yes, I do."
Every life is privy to one person,
And your life is privy to you.

World Affairs

Life just keeps on moving,
No matter who you are,
Or think you are. There's really no difference,
That I've seen, so far.

And the blessings and curses,
Distributed around,
Really have no rhyme or reason,
But that doesn't change how,

You greet them, for that has bearing,
On your life's next turn-
Not really in where it goes,
But in the lessons learned,

That you're really alright,
No matter the circumstance,
Unless you're oppressed beyond belief,
Of which, there is a good chance.

To Love

When there are expectations,
That you just cannot meet,
Not because you lack ability,
But, because you're relying,

On others, who may not appreciate,
That one should be nice,
To others, just because we're all human,
Regardless of what one's like,

And if we all just spent our energies,
Helping, instead of not,
We will excel as a species,
Until we don't have to do a lot,

And we'll be alright,
And be ready for others,
That come from different origins,
And other mothers.

Forever Young

What you've already passed,
Seems so far in the past,
It always does.
That's existence.

And you'll never believe those,
Who have been where you are,
That the road ahead is long,
Just like those earlier,

You've spoken to,
And who don't believe you,
That if you knew then what you know now,
Everything would be new.

But you're alright,
And always will be,
Just like you're forever young,
For an eternity.

It's Not A Matter Of Scale - You're Nothing

Yes, we're all insignificant,
When you stop to ponder,
As Pascal did before,
The immeasurable wonder,

Of the universe's size,
And the fact that our planet,
Compared to some worlds out there,
Is as a mountain to an ant.

And he went the other way, too,
And observed our immense size,
When we look through a microscope,
At the cells of a fly,

But, that's not quite right.
It's an issue of quantity, not mass,
And anyway you cut it,
We're a miniscule class.

No Connection

For every person that loves you,
Assume five more don't,
And that one-half actively hates you,
As well as the others that simply won't,

Get to know you, 'cause they don't have time,
What with all the demands on their lives,
Which you are so well aware of, yourself,
Which is why you don't have the time,

To have an opinion of most of those,
That you meet day after day,
Except in so far as you can use them,
Or stay out of their way,

Because we're all alright,
As far as our worlds go,
It's when they collide with others,
That our nastiness shows.

You Wouldn't Know That

There really is a season,
For every moment you live,
And the transition must happen imperceptibly,
Or also as a season.

In other words, things are always changing,
Even though they seem to hit extremes,
And then change slowly into something else,
Giving less meaning to the in betweens.

And depending on whether the highs that are reached,
Are really lows,
You may be wishing for the next season,
But it never actually arrives, you know.

But you'll be alright,
If you just live each moment as it comes.
Was all this explanation really to just,
Come to this conclusion?

Ask Yourself

So what, if you lose everything,
You've ever fought for?
What you must ask yourself is, what do you have left,
And how can you get more?

And the answer is to let go,
Because holding on is not how you first got,
What you've now lost, so stick with what works,
Because, others don't really care a lot,

Becasue they have their own things to hang onto,
And have worked for them as hard as you.
But if you support them as you rebuild,
They will support you, too.

And it's alright,
If you lose some face on the way,
The best is to just put on a new one,
And just throw the old one away.

Yes, We're Different

There is a certain point,
Where some people reach,
When there is less left to actually learn,
And more to actually teach,

And less time available for those,
Who do not have the aptitude,
To achieve the same level of ability,
To comparable level of truth,

Or, to put it another way,
Their potential has been tapped,
And their existence in a higher life,
Is not something that,

Can exist, alright?
There, somebody has said it.
Now, can the world start finding places suitable,
For all the different sorts that exist?

Relatively Tragic

All these other worlds,
Are variations of your own,
If you assume that everyone sees the same things,
And that all the same things are known.

But it could be that there's a different knowledge,
Embedded in a different sort,
Rendering a wholly different experience,
Significantly short,

Of what you think there really is.
Isn't that depressing?
That there are things under the sky you can never know,
Just because of your positioning.

And it's kind of alright,
That they'll never know what you know, too,
Until you reflect upon the fact that there will always be,
People better off than you.

Gotta Be Somebody

How can you ever pass on,
What it is you've learned yourself,
Onto the next generation,
Other than how to build a shelf,

Or how to treat a wound or strategy?
Everything thing else depends on your mind,
For what leads to destruction in yours,
May have nourished curiosity in mine.

For every moment spent by one person,
Is completely foreign to others,
So that for two people to have the same experience,
They would be different from one another.

But it's alright,
If two people know each other well,
The fact that something is important to one,
Will make the other think it's worthwhile.

Happy New Year

If you've ever seen the moon,
Move across the sky,
Leaving a trail behind it of light and colour,
You may have wondered why,

Others did not take the same view as you,
On the immensity of the event.
The same goes for other things in your life,
Which you thought were of great moment,

Because the randomness of your existence,
And the existence of those around you,
Is so pronounced that absolutely nothing,
Can be considered absolutely new.

But it's alright,
As you scurry through this life,
Trying to make things magnificent.
Just don't expect others to be as surprised.

Before Time Starts Again

Every day will pass,
Just as some never end,
Just like there will always be poor,
And war and famine,

And when you wake up in the morning and you are,
Tired beyond belief,
With all this living stuff, try to remember,
The tree doesn't lament the loss of a leaf,

Unless it's not the season.
There really is no comfort,
When your body aches before its time,
Or your life is cut short.

But it's alright,
There's always the after-life,
Whether you're conscious at that time or not,
It's a comfort until you find out what's right.

Perspective

When the darkness has fallen on you,
And only clawing will help you out,
Be comforted by the thought that when you are,
There will still be doubt,

And there will still be just as far to go,
To reach any true happiness.
Like any absolute, the distance to it,
Is infinite,

And any joy you can grasp in relation to,
What you had a moment ago,
Is a triumph beyond all miracles,
That you can ever know,

Because it's alright,
Until you start to think about it,
And then you wish you never had,
And just continued to just exist.

Life's Unnexpected Joys

As things die,
New things take their place,
As if some law of Nature demands,
There be no unoccupied space,

And what is new may be anything,
As far as your awareness can comprehend,
But like anyone knows, who's seen a baby develop,
Some traits are simply predestined,

And how you nurture them both affects their growth,
And the health of who you are, yourself,
And also offers you a second chance,
To learn, again, you must not think, or else,

You won't be alright,
For only instinct can tell you what's right,
And thought can only help you navigate,
Once you've determined your line of flight.

Meaning

The only way that words can tell you,
Exactly what they mean,
Is through an exhaustive review of the life,
From which they are coming,

Which also requires that one step into,
A life completely foreign,
And impossible to experience, even if it is,
For such a task requires giving,

Up who you are, which is both impossible,
And negates the purpose of stepping in,
For then the perspective needed to understand,
Is lost. Do you understand the problem?

And it's alright,
If you don't,
It probably means the meaning of your words,
Also won't.

Usefulness

Nothing is totally useless,
In fact, even useless has its use,
And the only thing that you have to ensure,
Is that the use is built on truth,

Or not, for there is a use for falsehood,
And even a use for uses that you'd not,
Want to touch with a 12 foot pole,
Unless it's something that you really want.

It's quite amazing the things you will forgive,
If the benefits seem worth it,
And that value judgement's completely rests,
On the usefulness of your perspective.

And it's alright,
Everything can be forgotten,
Even deals with the devil,
That lead to greats savings for things boughten.

Friends

Friends come and friends go,
And people always change,
Not inside but more in relation to,
How the world's arranged.

And how you are related to it,
Will affect your distance to everyone else,
Just like a wall that's built to stop a flood,
There can be walls built to stop your self.

And whether you like someone else or not,
Has more to do with these distances and walls,
Than what is actually inside them,
Because you can never know that, at all.

And it's alright,
Everyone's not a potential friend,
Just like not everything can possibly,
Be in your hand.

Time's Up

No, you can't make time,
But, also, you can't use it up,
And if you think that time's wasting away,
It's not.

In the time in which you've understood,
The time it takes to do a given thing,
The horizon of time keeps opening up,
Allowing you to do anything.

And when the moment comes that it all seems gone,
When everything you've hoped for has been spent,
You may believe that time has all run out,
But that's not what you meant,

'Cause it's alright,
You're always already done,
What you just did, but that just opens up,
Time for what has just begun.

Living Good

Things always get better,
Before they get worse,
And then, of course, better again,
And on, until your ride in a hearse.

And if you learn to ride out the bad,
And savour the good,
You may be doing yourself a disservice,
In the name of saving yourself some hurt,

For what is bad is only what it is,
In light of what you do on this earth,
Which is live and learn and form opinions,
Of what you want and what you'd rather deter.

But it's alright,
If you only want to live half a life,
What happens in those times you'd rather avoid,
Aren't very nice.
