What You Are

It is day three of four,
The rain's supposed to fall,
It will be a sign for some of cleansing,
For the guilt in her soul,

She will walk into the past to the times,
She has cringed to think of,
Take herself by the hand, pointing forward,
To see the future self that she will love,

That the moment from which they now view her,
A step along the path,
Was maybe not necessary, but was,
Is what the future hath.
It cannot change,
But would you if you could,
Risk changing the person that you are now?
Then you've bigger problems than all your shoulds.

The Daily Soldier

You can't just decide,
To become a soldier,
You have to be willing to do some things,
In places that are colder,

No matter the climate,
That's not the point.
You have to steel yourself,
Against the point,

Of sympathy,
To a degree.
Have love for your brother,
And deny others dignity.

Alright, I've never been,
So, who am I to say?
I can only think of what it's like,
To divide the world that way.

Complicated or Simple

You are either someone,
Who thinks with her heart,
And must keep in mind every factor,
And every part,

That may have a feeling about what she does,
Or thinks with her mind,
And doesn't have to keep,
Track of every fact she finds,

And remember facts so that,
You can know who to trust,
Rather than assume the best of all,
And react off the cuff,

To those, not alright,
Who are actually assholes.
Which one are you?
Just so I know.

Forever Young

What you've already passed,
Seems so far in the past,
It always does.
That's existence.

And you'll never believe those,
Who have been where you are,
That the road ahead is long,
Just like those earlier,

You've spoken to,
And who don't believe you,
That if you knew then what you know now,
Everything would be new.

But you're alright,
And always will be,
Just like you're forever young,
For an eternity.

The Ups and Downs are Not Real

It all changes so quickly,
Doesn't it?
But, then, it doesn't really, at all,
Just your perception of it,

And even that is relying upon,
The assumption that what you see is,
More than just your seeing,
Of it,

Which in the end doesn't matter at all,
Only how intense is the pain,
And sometimes when I think of where we have been,
I want to cut out my own brain.

Both really and metaphorically, alright?
It hasn't done me much good anyway,
Between the choices and the infinitesimal,
Amount of information retained.

Life vs Death

Enjoy where you are at,
Until it all changes,
Due to something stupid that you've done,
Or the world rearranges,

Either the people or things,
That make up your life,
Which is all there is,
And which will suffice,

For after that,
What there is,
Is nothing you will understand,
Until you're on the precipice.

Which is where you are, alright?
Until you make a change,
For unchanging is another word,
For death.

The New Socialism

There are never more problems,
Just different ones,
With each change that you effect,
But it's all about rotation,

So that each person involved,
In the world that you make,
Has his share of good times and bad,
For perspective's sake,

Until eventually perspective,
Says, "the problems're always there",
And it becomes about simply living,
Instead of getting one's fair share.

Not that it's alright,
That there are haves and have-nots,
But maybe everyone should get a turn,
To have whatever they want.

Stop to Consider

When you're thinking of what could have been,
Make sure to include,
All those possibilities that would have destroyed you,
Along with the good,

Things that could have happened should you have followed,
Some other path,
Because you never know what leads to disaster.
Then be happy where you are at.

And when you're stifled by a particularly,
Difficult decision,
Ponder the fact that if you had crossed the road any sooner,
You might have been in a collision.

And it's alright,
If this seems a cop-out for running your life.
Go ahead and be obsessed with what-ifs,
And see if you're left with anymore might.

Too Much?

Try to keep up with the demands,
Of your daily maintenance,
From all the sectors of your daily life,
From bedroom to kitchen,

From kids to work, from friends to repairs,
To satisfying the government's,
Demand that you account for all you've made,
And give it its stipend,

From friends to family, from heart to soul,
From the environment to injustice,
From helping others to helping yourself,
When overwhelmed by this list's immenseness,

And you wonder if you're alright,
Or even what is there,
If you strip away all of these things,
And try to live without a care.

What If

You will often find,
If you look back on your life,
Instances of opportunities lost,
That just might,

Have erased all your worriies for stability,
But for which now it is too late.
Like that song, "if I knew then what I know now."
It's enough to make you irate,

With yourself and everyone you've ever known,
For not being quite good enough,
To have the vision others obviously do,
In figuring out stuff.

But it's alright,
It's all relative.
You can alway's make-believe,
You are a big success.

You'll Never Have It

It doesn't take much,
To place yourself out of time,
And place to get a look,
At that for which you pine,

Which is everything that you are not,
Because the nature of human beings,
Is to forever be dissatisfied,
And searching,

For your ideal self. It doesn't matter who you are,
No one is exempt,
Even if you are admired by most,
There is always something left,

That will make you alright,
If you only had it.
And until you do, which is impossible,
You'll always be discontent.

Yes, We're Different

There is a certain point,
Where some people reach,
When there is less left to actually learn,
And more to actually teach,

And less time available for those,
Who do not have the aptitude,
To achieve the same level of ability,
To comparable level of truth,

Or, to put it another way,
Their potential has been tapped,
And their existence in a higher life,
Is not something that,

Can exist, alright?
There, somebody has said it.
Now, can the world start finding places suitable,
For all the different sorts that exist?

Demand the Best

It's alright to say,
That someone's not up to par.
In fact, if you are actually saying that,
Then you may have just raised the bar,

And disallowed the type of activity,
That has led to failure in the past.
It's alright to demand a good showing,
Even if you look like an ass,

Because if you don't then it just might happen,
That you'll be judged by the company you keep,
By those who will accept no less that the best,
While you're happy with mediocre feats.

And it's not alright,
To just ignore the problem.
It's much easier to drag people down,
Than to make them rise to the occasion.

Relatively Tragic

All these other worlds,
Are variations of your own,
If you assume that everyone sees the same things,
And that all the same things are known.

But it could be that there's a different knowledge,
Embedded in a different sort,
Rendering a wholly different experience,
Significantly short,

Of what you think there really is.
Isn't that depressing?
That there are things under the sky you can never know,
Just because of your positioning.

And it's kind of alright,
That they'll never know what you know, too,
Until you reflect upon the fact that there will always be,
People better off than you.

Everything You Want

It is overwhelming,
Thinking about all the things,
That can be done and is done and will never be done,
While you are living,

Like knowing all the things that can be done,
That you probably would like to do,
Overloading you into inaction,
And depressing you, too.

But you can only eat an elephant,
One bite at a time,
And, even then, you have to digest each piece,
If you don't want to die.

And it's alright,
Though the world will not wait for you,
Even if you have one experience of progress,
You'll come out feeling brand new.

The Enviable Life

Yes, life is passing you by,
But so is it passing everyone else,
And not to make everything hunky dory,
But there's a life for every self,

And taking any one and putting it on display,
Creates an art, as is proved by new media,
For what's interesting is not what's produced,
But how much truth can be seen by ya,

'Cause whether drawn, written or thought to yourself,
You'd be surprised how much deception there is.
You want the proof for this, just look at your life,
And identify the fruits of your wish-es.

But it's alright,
For no life always feels fulfilled,
And the outward view is no gauge of just how,
Many wishes in it have been killed.

The Value of You

What's the measure of a man?
It depends on who
Holds the ruler and where it is he got it,
Because there's no likeness between any two,

But if it happens that there's still an agreement,
Among an impressive population,
That you are made of laudible qualities,
Then,the scale has reached objectification,

Not as a measure of who you are, though,
But of the calibration of a few,
For no matter how many are in agreement,
There are an infinite more who are not, too.

So, it's alright,
If you're told you're great or good for nothing,
The only critique that is ruler in its universe,
Is your own self-judging.

Building

How do you do something right?
It's hard to find the criteria,
That satisfies everyone,
With an idea.

You might agree that it shouldn't fall,
And it should do what it was meant to,
And it does no damage to the environment,
Though, that consideration is quite new,

And it probably should be informed by,
Similar tasks done in the past,
And include proven attributes,
To help it last.

And it's alright,
If it does none of these things.
Some accident might come out of it,
That creates a new, useful something.

Peaks

The peaks often get the spotlight,
And define the moments of your life,
And present the most horrifying combinations of,
Desires and unrequite,

And the importance of the moments that lead up to them,
Are belied by that word 'up',
When in truth every moment's equal,
And blah, blah and yadda, yadda.

What does one live for, if not the future?
Even ecstacy's loved for how it goes on,
And missed the moment it runs out of gas,
And is gone.

Oh, it's alright,
There are also those moments you contemplate,
On how no moment's more intense than another,
If you can recalculate.

Planning

Nothing ever seems as good,
As the plan,
That is created in the world of the mind,
Which is nothing that reality can,

Mimic, just like you cannot be,
Someone else - the two worlds do not meet,
Just like how you see the execution,
And how others see it, when the plan's complete.

And nothing is ever as good as expected,
But the unexpected's better than,
Anything that could have been dreamt up,
And mapped out in a plan.

And it's alright,
It's not about the result, anyway.
The value in planning and executing,
Is the process, at the end of the day.
