The Infinite Cage

Why don't you think outside the box,
When you think about how far you've come,
And all the paths you've passed up,
And subsequent delusion,

About the options you have?
You have no less than anyone,
Who has taken chances in their life,
And tackled their vocation.

And all those ties that bind,
And responsibilities that restrict,
Your desire for a new life,
May be just the kick,

In the pants, (alright?)
That you need to decide,
That no cage is so small,
That you can't explore the inside.

Protect Yourself

You never know where life will lead you,
You never really know,
Or what people are thinking,
No matter what they show,

And though you can't judge a book by its cover,
Its cover, you can surely judge,
And when that's all you have to judge by,
Surround yourself with those you love,

And, when that's all you have,
To protect yourself from content,
Collect as many as you can,
To minimize each's affect,

On you being alright,
Because you will find,
When one opens itself up to you as your enemy,
The rest will have your behind.

The Fragility of Ego

You'll never be able to,
Understand it all.
Who is for you, and what they really think,
Of you, overall.

All you can do, is know yourself,
And understand every move you make,
So you can answer with authority,
When someone asks you to explain,

How you can justify your actions,
Within their understanding,
Which is only arrived at through honest,
And unforgiving living.

But you're not alright,
Until you've found peace with yourself.
And you don't care about the ways,
Of anyone else.

Surprisingly

There are those who say education,
In its present structure,
Was devised to control the populous,
To support Capitalism's future,

That it is no secret that there are those who believe,
That Darwin's evolutionary observations,
Can be artificially mirrored by mating strong humans,
And so, somehow create perfection.

But our ideals are so far from ideal,
And our judgement has so far proven flawed,
So, that we could deem what are the most advantageous traits,
Is a notion that should leave you awed.

And it's alright,
The irony of the whole thing is,
That evolution's bigger than anyone here,
And will ultimately rule, regardless.

Before Time Starts Again

Every day will pass,
Just as some never end,
Just like there will always be poor,
And war and famine,

And when you wake up in the morning and you are,
Tired beyond belief,
With all this living stuff, try to remember,
The tree doesn't lament the loss of a leaf,

Unless it's not the season.
There really is no comfort,
When your body aches before its time,
Or your life is cut short.

But it's alright,
There's always the after-life,
Whether you're conscious at that time or not,
It's a comfort until you find out what's right.

Already Gone

You just have to keep on truckin'
Because if you don't,
Your debt will build up and society will shun you,
Oh, and you will lose your home,

And dare I say that your soul will be affected,
When you may not even believe in it,
Or, at least, that it continues to exist,
After money becomes your prime source of contentment,

And not as the source of your luxuries,
For that is denied to all, but a few,
But the source of the bare minimum,
Required to be considered among the few,

Who deserve to be alright,
For if you just don't have enough,
It's almost comical to call you a human.
Boy, isn't this existence rough?

Quagmire

It really never ends,
And society's to blame,
And if you never get out of this mess,
The complaint can be the same,

With no accusations of passing the buck,
For your ambitions only exist,
Within this arena that values money,
And digs you into a pit.

And never mind those who seem to get it,
Because most of them really don't,
And those who do were created specifically so,
There's an iota of hope.

And it's alright,
There's much that society never made,
Like your reflections on it,
And your indignation will never fade.

Keeping Up

Many people say life is short,
And many people say life is long,
Just as many say it's not worth a thing,
Depending on where you're from,

And depending on how you were raised,
Life might have never given you a chance,
To make it any more than a catch-up game,
Without the opportunity to dance,

Or shout with any intent other than anger,
Because true happiness requires that,
You have some leisure, outside of survival,
Isn't that a fact?

And it's alright,
If you don't agree.
Life may just be a survival game,
And happiness is winning.

Too Much

There's no way one can handle,
Everything at once,
Or even everything one after another,
Or even half as much,

Or even anything at all really,
If one is alone,
And even if not, those with one,
Must care enough to be at home,

When one is calling for the help that, surely,
One will need within one's lifetime,
As everyone who's ever done anything,
Has learned in time.

But it's alright,
If one really has no one,
Then chances are there's nothing to do,
And no one waiting for the conclusion.

True Wealth

Just go with the flow, you say,
To the thousand millions left to fend,
For themselves while those with most the wealth,
Can't even spare to lend.

When all that money doesn't mean a thing,
Until it is spent,
Except for the potential energy,
And destruction it represents,

And the departure from reality,
For when a dollar no longer has,
Value in the mind of she who holds it,
Those hands that hold it will be the last.

So, it's alright,
If all you have is the love you hold,
Unless you want to buy some food with it,
You have riches untold.

Fighting To Survive

Keeping people off kilter,
Might be your only chance at love,
For life, because it's the only opportunity,
To feel above,

The considerations you know don't matter,
Outside of what you need to survive,
Within the structure of society,
Just like an elk fights to stay alive.

But others will tell you, you must first secure,
That survival before the luxury exists,
To think about the space in between,
Just being and consciousness.

And time's alright,
Whether you're sitting in an armchair,
Or leading the revolution,
The truth is always there.
