Your Fame Barometer

If you want to know anything,
You don't have far to look,
Because how you affect the world,
Is your reference book.

You will never be more kind,
Than you are to those closest to you,
And so will the world,
Treat you, too,

And if you want to know how you'd look,
To the world at large,
If it turned its eyes on you,
You don't have to look hard,

To know, alright?
Just put yourself in,
The shoes of those closest to you,
And assess the situation.

Maintaining Awe

How do you want to improve?
Do you want to use some facts,
Collected by others and yourself,
So you can react,

To the comparisons that come out,
Because that is all there is?
How else can you know where you're at,
Without some orientation?

And once you've succeeded in seeing yourself,
Amidst the garden of flowers in which you live,
Will you know where you want to go,
Or will you be happy with where you exist?

All questions, alright,
Because that is all there is.
It's when you start to answer them,
That you cease to be curious.

Change for the Better

When do you know you've changed?
What are the facts that point it out?
Who can know you so well to know, too?
Why do you even doubt,

That change is something that you need?
It's what everybody wants.
No one is truly happy,
Or it'd infect the whole rotten lot,

And would sweep the world, like some kind of cult,
And followers would rise up fast,
Though, not themselves able to truly match,
The same life-changing act.

So, you're alright,
Where you are, or where you go,
And you don't have to think about whether you've changed,
When you do, you will just know.

Are You Boring?

Are you just boring?
You'll have to ask yourself,
If when you meet someone for the first time,
Do you talk about your health?

Do you comment on the weather,
And try hard not to offend?
Do you assume a tone of camaraderie,
Or that time is needed to make a friend?

When they say something really outrageous,
Do you act like that's never been said before?
Or go right along and match their wits,
Not making you a bore?

And it's alright,
If you answered yes to any of these.
Dynamic people are entertaining,
But that's not all that this world needs.

What To Do Next

Just as the exact space,
You will fill as you head,
Into this world,
New and naked,

So is each step you take,
Like sparks from a fire,
Bright for a time,
As intense as dire.

And how else can you live,
You who are so bored, so fast,
Forever thinking about what you could have been,
Or were, but couldn't last?

It's alright,
You never have more time left than you do,
You're always about to die,
And live, too.

Defying Poetry

A poem need not be,
An investigation of the self,
Through a moment plucked out of time,
In words chosen to delve,

Into a world opaque to most,
Though there is a place for these.
But what about the broad strokes,
And universalities,

That show most, easily,
That we are all connected,
By a question that's defied,
All who've contended?

So, it's alright,
Go ahead and try to grasp,
That Space within us all,
With a poetical hand.

Why Following Your Heart Is Dangerous

When something is coming,
You don't want to see,
But you can't close your eyes,
Or you'd run into a tree,

You can always change your direction.
Oh, yes you can,
Even if you are deathly afraid,
That you can't,

That, if you did, you'd fail utterly,
As everyone observed,
And now you're too far away for help,
And they wouldn't help you if they could,

Because you tried to be alright,
Taking the less traveled path,
And might have showed them that it can be done,
And no one likes to see that.

How Selfish Can You Be?

I suppose any day,
Could be your last,
Whether because you leave this world for good,
Or the current world just becomes past,

Because you've changed, or those around you have,
Or because you've done something,
To change the way your world looks at you,
Whether increasing or mitigating,

Their respect. Ultimately what matters,
Is what is your perspective on life?
Do you believe in the hurt of others,
Or is it just about getting you right?

Because, the latter's alright,
But it makes a very big leap of faith,
That these worlds are just chances to,
Get a glimpse of your own face.

What If You Let Your Thoughts Out?

There can be nothing else,
Than the two lives that you live,
One, you want everyone to see,
And the one you want to give,

To the world,
But are too afraid,
Either because it's too destructive,
Or because it's what you create,

To escape from the surreality,
And irony of the demands,
From people and things that don't even exist,
Outside of your consciousness.

And maybe it's alright,
To switch your two lives,
Showing everyone your heart,
And hiding what's in front of their eyes.

Surprisingly

There are those who say education,
In its present structure,
Was devised to control the populous,
To support Capitalism's future,

That it is no secret that there are those who believe,
That Darwin's evolutionary observations,
Can be artificially mirrored by mating strong humans,
And so, somehow create perfection.

But our ideals are so far from ideal,
And our judgement has so far proven flawed,
So, that we could deem what are the most advantageous traits,
Is a notion that should leave you awed.

And it's alright,
The irony of the whole thing is,
That evolution's bigger than anyone here,
And will ultimately rule, regardless.

The Rain

This is what the rain tells you,
When it's stinging to your ears,
And forcing you to take shelter from it,
Despite the many years,

You've plunged yourself right into the thick of it.
How many times have you drenched yourself,
Until your soul is cleansed of all your hurt,
From the places you have dared to delve,

That are never what you expected them to be,
Unless you had no expectations at all,
Which begs the question, why go there?
Why not get surprises where you know you won't fall.

Because, it's alright,
You don't care to do the same old thing,
In the same old place, where rain simply falls,
Like it's fallen for an eternity.
