The Break In Between

There needs to be some breaks,
From what you do every day,
For variety, for certainty,
But, more to keep depression at bay,

To get a perspective on what you do,
From someone else other than others,
So you can reflect, using the benefit,
Of the minds of two lovers,

The one, of how things are and always should be,
In contrast to the one,
Who longs for no stability,
And constant revolution.

And it's alright,
They will have their spats,
It's the moments in between that define life,
And give meaning to all the facts.

A Hundred Objects Close By

Look at what has happened,
Happiness in your eyes,
Melting into the rest of you,
Despite all the lies,

That perception hands to you,
Beauty, it cannot deny,
The only proof of truth,
And the only knife,

We welcome into ourselves,
Happy to give our life,
Over to the ecstasy,
Of the thoughtless, innocent highs,

Of existence. All is right,
You can't deny this:
That beauty can always be found,
In whatever you're amidst.

Spark

If you are reading this,
What is it you think?
Have you found yourself between the steps,
Or stepping back from the brink?

We all find ourselves,
In places we don't want to be,
Though, that is usually because of fear of moving,
Or the determination to be free.

So, at the very least, leave with this thought,
Either of yourself or reality,
That everything under the sun,
Casts a shadow on something,

That may be alright,
Or may actually not be,
I guess the point is to forever look,
Until you think that you've seen everything.

Pascal's View

It really is overwhelming,
If you stop to think about,
The life you're in and the lives you've seen,
And the capabilities that you doubt,

You have to enter into any of them,
As well as anybody else,
And think about the dreams that've come and gone,
That you've had about yourself.

Think about the countless leaves that have fallen,
Each, a life in itself.
It doesn't matter that you don't understand them.
You don't understand yourself.

It's alright,
When you think about the size of you,
Within the context of who you wish you were.
That is just something that all humans do.

Leaders' Debate

The trick is to respond to questions,
Without a reference to what was asked,
While sticking to the topic at hand,
As you were tasked,

But knowing exactly what you want to say,
Even before you arrive on the scene.
The trick is not to explore a topic,
But to navigate a dream,

That will never touch reality,
For, that is a dream's nature.
There are words and then there are actions,
Again, not related, for sure.

And that's alright,
It's a reflection of society.
Do you say what there is or what you want?
Do you want what you want or what you see?

World Affairs

Life just keeps on moving,
No matter who you are,
Or think you are. There's really no difference,
That I've seen, so far.

And the blessings and curses,
Distributed around,
Really have no rhyme or reason,
But that doesn't change how,

You greet them, for that has bearing,
On your life's next turn-
Not really in where it goes,
But in the lessons learned,

That you're really alright,
No matter the circumstance,
Unless you're oppressed beyond belief,
Of which, there is a good chance.

Run From Success

The farther you get down,
A road you shouldn't traverse,
Because every part of your body,
Screams, 'things are getting worse!',

Don't abandon your route,
Because those voices could be wrong,
Scared by the possibility,
That all along,

You're on your way to doing,
What you do best,
A task with a lot of responsibility,
And you don't want, lest,
You lose it, alright?
Yes, that's our greatest fear:
Not that we don't get what we want,
But that what we want's too near.

When You'll Be Successful

When do opportunities come?
When you least expect them,
Just when you've started to enjoy what you're doing,
That's exactly when,

You forget about your dissatisfaction,
And when your universe transforms,
And those around you start talking to others,
About how you're above the norm,

And then it is no coincidence,
That the offers start rolling in,
For now you're seen as a positive force,
And a multi-disciplinarian.

and it's alright,
That you will hit lows again,
That's only when you stop and look around,
And change direction.

Forever Young

What you've already passed,
Seems so far in the past,
It always does.
That's existence.

And you'll never believe those,
Who have been where you are,
That the road ahead is long,
Just like those earlier,

You've spoken to,
And who don't believe you,
That if you knew then what you know now,
Everything would be new.

But you're alright,
And always will be,
Just like you're forever young,
For an eternity.

The Ups and Downs are Not Real

It all changes so quickly,
Doesn't it?
But, then, it doesn't really, at all,
Just your perception of it,

And even that is relying upon,
The assumption that what you see is,
More than just your seeing,
Of it,

Which in the end doesn't matter at all,
Only how intense is the pain,
And sometimes when I think of where we have been,
I want to cut out my own brain.

Both really and metaphorically, alright?
It hasn't done me much good anyway,
Between the choices and the infinitesimal,
Amount of information retained.

Getting Away From Yourself Is To Define Yourself

The longer you are outside,
The farther you are away,
From the things you know intimately.
And if you were to drive the car away,

To those places you only know,
From pictures you have seen,
That have stolen your heart and mind,
And you imagine are relaxing,

You'll find you cannot even find yourself,
Because you're running away,
With your soul, out of your body.
Reality's made this way.

You're alright,
Even if you've lost all you have,
Because you're not the sum of your possessions,
You're what you think is contraband.

The Bad Does Come With the Good

Nothing is ever permanent,
Event the thought that nothing is,
And one moment you can feel on top of the world,
Like it's made for you, as if,

It's only a projection of your mind,
And you mold it as you like,
Until you lose control and feel like a player,
In some god's game night.

And do you want this nuance to disappear?
Do you want to know it all?
Or feel like you do, I think some do,
It's called being fanatical.

So, it's alright,
If you're feeling as small as a pea.
That's the privilege of being human:
Knowing you won't always be.

The Connections Of Your Past In Relation To Your Present

There is no such thing as time,
When talking about yourself,
And about those who have meant something to you,
Unless you've become someone else,

Which you haven't, if you can remember,
The emotions you shared back then.
Not to say that things are the same now.
You've both gone through evolutions,

Of your surroundings and relationships,
So, you can't really go back now.
You have to start again from the beginning,
And keep in mind how,

You were alright,
Because it could take a bit,
To find common ground again,
If you really want it.

How You Must Approach Change

Any choice that you make's,
Going to affect someone,
Probably more and probably not all,
Will be of the same opinion,

But even those who end up hurt by it,
Do not need to be angry at you,
Either because you talk them through it,
Or, it's just not what they do,

But those who cannot just let it go,
And recognize that we all have our paths,
Are making a choice also, and that's alright,
Because you don't have to be an ass.

You can be alright,
And live and let live.
Life's not too short to waste time,
But it is to not to forgive.

Making It.

When it rains, it pours,
Have you heard that before?
Which means that perception's just waiting for the chance,
To soar,

And show you its power in the face of,
What seems like a given thing,
Like circumstances and barriers,
And other peoples' feelings.

But what happens when you are ready to go,
And you have everything in place?
Well, others recognize the power you have,
And tries to tag along for the race.

And that's alright,
You need them to succeed.
No one's an island or can live in a vacuum,
Unless they live in a house for the insane.

The Truth

There is not much deeper,
You can get than to recognize,
In a general sense that no one knows,
Anything they prophesize,

About anything, except insofar as,
Most everyone else agrees,
('Cause from religion to camshafts,
There always bubbles up a Heracles,

Who's strength and valor overwhelm all,
Showing exactly where the sun shines from.)
Suffice to say, there's nothing sacred,
Free from all skepticism.

And it's alright,
You don't have to believe me.
That's the beauty of the situation we're in,
You can believe anything.

Be What You Want To Be

If you want to see where you've gone,
Then visit who you were,
At all the haunts you used to go to in the past,
But just be sure,

You're talking to the right version of you,
And not who you thought you should have been,
And start asking yourself some questions,
About where you think you're going.

Now calibrate that with your own journey,
And assess the distance you have traveled.
Are you impressed by the progress you've made,
Or sufficiently less enamoured?

Now, alright,
Go find the person you want to be,
Again, talk, calibrate and assess,
And set course for that trajectory,

Pass On What

Passing on knowledge,
Is a tricky business,
For everybody has differing goals,
And different interpretations,

And your intent in giving a specific lesson,
May be lost on the majority of those,
You give it to, nay it might even creÀte,
A result diametrically opposed,

To what you intend, so the question is begged,
Why teach anything at all?
Part of the assumptions when teaching,
Is that human nature is universal.

And it's alright,
Even if your meaning is lost,
Your understanding of the world may be, too,
As every aging genertation becomes.

Tweaking Your Perspective

Every day's the best day,
Because it's a progression from the last,
Folding in everything that is good,
And everything that's past,

That you'd rather not be living through,
Unless it's better than what you have now,
Which will pass, as well. That's easy to say,
When you've already been through hell.

But in reality, there's just one thing,
That determines if you're happy or sad,
Which is your turn of mind, though that's a cop-out,
When you're saying it without having had,

It not be alright.
The privileged always seem to write,
The advice for the truly distraught.
And how could they ever get it right?

Merry Christmas

Now it's time to reflect,
On what you believe,
Not because of the season,
But because it's time to leave,

Your shell of unawareness,
Of what's happening around,
Not because of your age,
But because of the sounds,

Of the whispers now rising,
Above the din of exchange.
Do you hear what they are saying,
About the way we all are made,

To believe that it's alright,
That we really have no say,
About how the world views what we do,
Each and everyday?
