For everyone you see,
You cross the street to avoid walking close,
It's not effrontery,
You refuse to visit your relatives,
Or have friends come over,
Peak out the curtains if the doorbell rings,
Which rarely happens in this brave new world,
Unspoken awareness of what we know,
No need to spew it out,
We wear masks that we'd eschewed in the past,
We made ourselves, no doubt.
Still people die,
Some see it everyday,
Up close, in the most contagious setting,
In battle, what courage humans display,
