Relations

Relations are not necessary,
If you can make it on your own,
Without reliance on a single thing,
That you have not somehow grown.

If not, then research shows the necessity of love,
As the primer to the pumping heart.
To maintain any one relation's easier,
Than keeping your determination hard.

If genious does not exist if not acknowledged,
That's only because it can't exist alone,
Just like any quality esteemed or despised.
For anything to exist, it must be known.

And it's alright,
Though tears are being planted by my heart,
The relations creating this sad moment,
May also be the cause of a favoured start.

Humility

Maybe it is better,
That I am under a better of me,
Or maybe I should just go out on my own,
And discover my own superiority.

The embarrassement that infests my whole being,
May counteract any advantage I had,
Unless I go back to my shameless self,
To the days when luck was my better half.

This may be my opportunity to revert,
To a more knowledgable version of my youth.
How often have I said in my mature life,
"I wish what I know now, when I was younger, I knew"?

And it's alright,
I'll get my due eventually.
I've got it in my way along the way.
I guess I can't fight what it's been to be me.

Handy

I would not say that I have,
The type of hands I need,
To grasp the things that I truly want.
Or has my potential just not been freed?

You take a seed and plant it into the soil,
And you wonder of the miracle of life.
To be an observer of human behaviour,
Your hands must be strong and light.

But mine now are not feeling much more than tired,
And frustrated at not being able to make,
The life they want despite a sincere effort.
They were born into the world, maybe, too late.

And it's alright,
The world changes all of the time.
That's what they mean when someone get's their break.
All one needs is to recognize the signs.

No Turning Back

I won't say I'm unhappy,
About the anxiety I feel.
I guess it's impossible to really judge,
The opinions of other people.

It's in my nature to get depressed for no reason,
Though reasons are never in short supply,
Just like the oil in the ground causing so much heartache,
It's at a dear cost to buy.

And I don't wish for things to be any different,
It's just scary sometimes how far I've gone,
Down one particular path, passing all others,
But that's better than going down none.

And it's alright,
I won't say that the grass is always greener,
But it does always seem that you'd know everything,
In a situation other than the one in which you are.

Standing Tall

This is not the end yet,
Your voice can still be heard.
No one has the right to try to silence you,
Even if she's your employer.

Don't you get speechless, or in case you do,
Make sure to keep your mouth shut.
Saying 'yes' is not a way to escape.
It's just a way to shoot yourself in the foot.

Remember that just because someone has an idea,
It doesn't mean that idea is right.
Show me the person who can tell the difference,
And I'll show you someone who's not nice.

And it's alright,
You just have to stick to your guns,
Close your eyes and just pull that trigger,
Sometimes it is the only solution.

Hire Me

Why do you want to hire me?
Let me count the ways.
If I was a car I would be fully loaded.
Oops, not as in I like to drink Tanqueray.

The qualities I have are not tangible,
Or are represented in any type of degree.
My word is all that I truly have,
And I swear I'll be a great employee.

Give me a second and I'll get on my knees,
Nothing in this life makes me feel as I do,
About dedicating the greater part of my hours,
To this company and most importantly to you.

And it's alright,
If you decide that I'm not right for the work,
It reflects more on me more than it does on you.
But, thank you for this chance to argue for my worth.

Negotiations

There is surely something I have,
That is worth more to you,
Than anything that I have, but what will it take,
To get you to admit it, too?

This habit of low-balling, where is its root?
Why don't we just give up what we should?
This money invention has us valuing air,
And stifling potential that's universally good.

Imagine all the work we put into things,
Continuing, except we did them just to help each other.
Our souls would be so much more at peace,
And so much less would be done that hurts the world.

And it's alright,
Capitalism was a pretty good shot,
But, guys, let's give it up and try using gratitude instead.
True selflessness was never something to be bought.

Line of Flight

I'm ready to go full pressure,
Even if it means I undermine,
All the things my life has been based on so far,
And all the things that made it mine.

There are stages and on them we all play a part,
And sometimes breaking them's the thing to do,
So people stand up and take notice of,
The fact that you are just playing you.

And if it all falls apart it's due not to any,
Lack in the structure you were raised in,
But in the result of the battle you fought,
For your ultimate liberation.

And it's alright,
I know you just end up back where you started.
You can't fight constantly, you will need a rest,
And that's why home is where the heart is.

Ode to a Webcam

Have I gone too far in,
Thinking that you don't see me?
Your eye is fixed and blink you never do.
You're enough to make me go crazy.

You see everything in me that not even I can,
Things that it's impossible for others to see,
Things that have no effect on the world I know,
But that tell you a lot about me.

But what about self-reflection, don't you know,
That to know me, you have to know yourself?
I may be the one fucking up my life,
But, at least, I'm not just sitting on a shelf.

And it's alright,
To each his own, I guess.
You sit and wait for someone to use you,
And I use you when I need connectedness.

Living Obliviously

Oh thank you Universe,
Though, I don't mean to jinx it.
You've always taken care of me in magical ways.
I guess that's what life's about, isn't it?

Everyone's life is different, not all happy,
And I guess you give their's to them also.
But what is it that makes others truly happy?
It may be misfortune, for all I know.

I've thought of things and suddenly there they are,
And I'm not talking about a million bucks.
Those things I've needed or just happily desired.
More than with hard work, it's great getting things with luck.

And it's alright,
If you take it all away tomorrow.
I know that's always been part of the deal.
Though, I happily desire you don't go;)

Split Fate Revisited

Why should I be jealous?
Well, I'll let you know.
Sometimes the different life you were supposed to live,
Is not welcome as a reality show.

Life is long and many things can happen to you,
That you could never anticipate.
That gets me through the moments of indecision.
And besides, I am happy anyway.

I'm not quite fit for what I should do anyway.
Awkwardness would only dominate my life.
Of course, I might have come into my own myself,
It hasn't been that bad coming with my wife.

And it's alright,
I'm not really complaining, am I?
I guess I am, and it's actually bugging me.
Why in the world should I lie?

Strength in Surrender

Does strength really lie,
In letting things happen?
I guess the only way to figure that out,
Is through experimentation.

The figure that pulls it through must be a control,
And also of the inclination,
To want to understand every movement,
That Nature allows through its wisdom.

Maybe it's the meek that shall inherit the earth,
Because they make themselves one with the Universe.
I'm sure that It doesn't think much, itself.
And I wouldn't say that it had no nerve.

And it's alright,
If you want to call me a kiss-ass.
I know my intentions better than anyone,
And if you knew them, you wouldn't say that.

Pull Back the Elastic

I know that you're wondering,
"What more could be said?"
Twenty years, seven months and twenty-seven days,
I may as well be dead.

But be born again because the mind needs to shift,
And we aren't much more than we think.
Unless you take into account our bodies.
They do provide us with a brink.

I used to like it all, and then I got bitter,
And now I just berate with ink.
Soon I hope that I can lead a revolution,
After I perfect my ability to tink.

And it's alright,
If you don't know what I mean quite yet.
Soon everything will fall and the time will be right,
For us to invent a new way to repent.

Back On Track

I think that I'm ready,
Now that the fatigue's gone,
To stand up to the things that are threatening,
My pathway to fun.

In certain places there is nothing but pain,
While for a few the pain does not exist,
At least in any meaningful way,
Because numbness has suffused every Capatilist.

And what can I do? I don't think there is much,
Unless all ears open to what I say,
And let it trickle down into their hearts.
And, of course, I to must do the same.

And it's alright,
Whether it's my words or someone else's bombs,
The way we consume til the fat stops all movement,
Things cannot continue this way very long.

Navigating Reality

Can it be that I will,
Unwittingly play the ass,
Not by doing things foolishly,
But by betraying those who helped me last?

It's not enough to play the innocent,
In one world, while in the other you know,
That what you're doing here effects all else.
To this call you cannot say no.

Let the anger well up inside you,
Like you've thrown all your masks away.
Like your singing karaoke and you just don't care.
Throw away all shame and sieze the day.

And it's alright,
If people talk about you afterwards.
I bet their talk will be filled with admiration,
And only gentle words.

Opportunity Knocks

Sometimes you can't believe it,
When your dreams come true.
I'm not saying that mine have yet,
But, I'm being treated well by the universe.

The moment they said I had it,
I always remembered that phrase,
And when I figure out what they meant,
Well, maybe then I'll find my way.

Direction's difficult until there's a purpose,
That you can't avoid and for which there's just one answer.
I guess in that respect money might be good.
You make it doing what you do better.

And it's alright,
Though, I guess I'm stepping on some toes,
Maybe those feet weren't in the happiest place,
And they were reminded to follow their nose.

I'll Be Back

I know it's been too long,
But what am I going to do?
It's been too long to say that I am sorry,
And too soon to say I love you.

You're right behind me, I don't think that you know,
All the things that I am thinking.
Like that I think you think I'm deep down inside,
Unfeeling and coniving.

But what can I do but what I have been doing?
And that is being nothing but sincere.
No one knows quite what is going on,
But don't blame me for not having fear.

And it's alright,
Though I'm distracted right now,
I'll soon be on the schedule from before,
Explaining to you how.

The Perfect World

I don't really get it,
But I hope some day I will.
And by 'it' I mean a quadrillion dollars,
Please, in small unmarked bills.

That is the key to all happiness,
Am I sounding obsessed?
I bet if I went back I'd see that I am,
How much do you want to put on it?

But it's not for me, it's for the whole world,
Because if everyone had enough,
To provide for themselves there'd be no more war,
Because everyone really only wants to love.

And it's alright,
If there are people who are still evil,
We'll just put them in jail, it will be easy,
And then everything else will be swell.

Undying

I love you my love,
I love you through the good and the bad.
The sun shining won't blind me,
And the rain won't mask me from this fact.

The wheels of the cars blocking your path to mine,
Threatening anger and frustration,
Are just more things to add to the list,
Of things that exist outside our love's creation.

I swipe it all away from this moment on,
Nothing exists except the air between our eyes.
The anger, the distance, the lack of understanding.
Well, that is just all outside.

And it's alright,
If the other things penetrate again.
They're just jealous of the love that we share,
So, sometimes, we may as well let them in.

Congrats Carolina

We both drank some absinth,
The sound on the tv wasn't that great,
The bar stool wasn't that comfortable,
And to your friends I didn't relate.

I was feeling guilty that my wife was at home,
Six months pregnant and in three days,
I'd be leaving her for a whole three weeks,
And I felt guilty when the bar tab came.

We didn't even talk a whole lot,
And what we talked about didn't touch anything.
I got home late and really couldn't say,
That it was worth it having gone out to watch the game.

But it's alright,
It was the Stanley Cup after all,
And my hockey pool was down to the wire.
In the end it was, of course, the right call.

Need for Escape

I will never do that again,
I say for the thousandth time.
How is it I can understand anything,
But still have to step out of my own mind?

The love I feel for you I don't want to leave,
Though I often view it from another world.
I could lie like this with you for an eternity,
Our married bodies in matching curls.

And never leave, you may say that that sounds lazy,
And that the world wasn't made that way.
Without a good day's hard work how could I learn,
To love you for even one day?

But it's alright,
I think I could manage that.
What say you let me give it a try from now on,
And at the end of my life, I'll report back.

Beer Conversation

I don't really have the time,
To explain it to you.
But if you think you have a handle on it,
And can explain it, please do.

It has something to do with how animals talk,
And how they don't talk like humans,
Though, any outward experiment will show,
That we have no way of looking in.

It's really a line of flight out of this world,
That tweaks our minds to look for new ways,
To do the same old thing, though seemingly better,
Yet, we always look back to the good ol' days.

And it's alright,
I'll still treat you like an animal,
'Cause for all the power I have to look inside you,
You're made of springs and cogs for all I know.

Lengthening the Leash

I'm debt-free and it's a Saturday,
What left is there to do?
I better spend money that I don't have,
To feel more akin to you.

The banks hate me and the credit card companies,
Are mad because I'm amassing points,
Without the counteracting force of interest,
So usury it should be brought to the courts.

My love, we are outcast we are between two classes,
One has less than zero, and one has too much,
But we can't properly be said to be in the middle,
Because of poverty, we are still on the cusp.

But it's alright,
As long as we have each other,
Isn't that right, love will conquer all?
Except the have-to-manage-money tether.

Working It Out

I have a pain in my neck,
That's what I get for trying to improve myself.
That's the last time I listen to my inmate friend.
If he was smart, would he be in jail?

Besides, what's good for the goose? Let's take a gander,
If I haven't already ruined,
Any chance I had to feel like a big man.
I can take a rest soon.

The point of light I am, shining with my being,
Bright enough in the centre, to at least be seen,
Amongst every other point of light, and by that I mean human,
Is a little tired of where it's been.

Oh, it's alright,
No matter where you are, it's a zillion to one,
That you could have ended up anywhere else,
So you may as well make it fun.

Gruesome Beatings

It does not take much,
Or even take very long,
To go from a state of pure hopefulness,
To a state where all hope is gone.

Not to beat a dead horse,
But maybe something that sick's required,
To point out that money's usually involved,
With that type of swing, and it gets tired.

Where is the next great mind to open all of ours,
And show us that a much better use can be made,
Of the potential power of the collective we call society,
Before our hope in it fades?

Is it alright,
When one's survival is always in question?
'Cause that's the case with the majority of humans.
This is not what was hoped for, for our nation.

Options for Some

Can the world offer all things?
I feel like there are limitations,
For example, I can't fly like a bird,
Oh wait, we did come up with that invention.

Of course the sea is off limits- wait that's a lie,
Nemo was there in Verne's head before I was born,
I won't even go into outer space,
My point's made without saying more.

Our minds are stretched by philosophy every age,
And the questions it leaves spurs us to make,
The things in the last age that were impossible,
Until invention's mothered for necessity's sake.

And it's alright,
Don't be scared, money's a limitation after all,
Though, maybe not for the human race as a whole.
Of course, within it it keeps most to a crawl.

No More Hippies

I can't say I've been exploring,
The hippie in me,
I've just been doing things a little bit different,
Now I'm a curiosity.

Will this new decade of the millenium,
Be, in the future, marked by uniformity?
The trends today are absolute prescriptions,
To be considered part of society.

I'm not being over the top for attention,
Maybe it's good to remind people of the possibilities,
Like that we dedicate most of our our lives,
To tasks we would only do for money.

And it's alright,
We do what we have to, now don't we?
There's strength in numbers and now we don't have to fight,
Lions, because we created uzis.

Benefiting from Community

I'm not going to feel bad,
Because the Joneses have more than me.
Maybe my time will come, but from what it will come,
I can't possibly see.

Except in a fantastical way,
Like if I won the lottery,
Or if I was rewarded for what I genuinely like to do,
But that's not the way of society.

We have left Nature not to have to worry,
About fighting Natural elements,
Instead we use up what free time we would have had,
Fighting the barriers of government.

And it's alright,
What I will do is work most of my life,
Figuring how to get around working,
And benefit from human's being unified.

Saturday, June 10, 2006

No Winning

I'm not trying to do things,
To make you feel upset.
I'm only pleasing people from pure enjoyment,
And that is what I do best.

The moodiness you show is confusing to me,
Are you just moody or have I done something?
Like steal your thunder, I'm just trying to be nice,
It's just part of my personality.

You just can't win, there's too many people out there,
With too many histories that conflict,
And no matter what you do you can't please everyone,
There's always someone out there that thinks you're a dick.

But it's alright,
Those people don't really count anyway,
'Cause chances are they are a dick themselves,
At least in relation to how you behave.

To Be Rich and Poor

Though the future's uncertain,
I am certainly here,
And no matter how far death is to me,
Ultimately, it's quite near.

But urgency's the last thing that I am feeling,
More like an ennui about what I will become.
The world we live in is so goddam random,
From Mother Nature to the Nation.

Was society rigged with this insecurity,
Or is it an extension of our natures?
I'll tell you one thing if I can't keep my job,
I'm not good for much else, that is for sure.

But it's alright,
Society's been relatively good to me so far,
I'm close to poor with little free time,
But that's still better than most of the world.

Murder Brings Hope

I'm watching Bush talk,
It's about- what's that?- the war.
Someone's been killed that brings the end nearer,
Just like it was nearer before.

He's looking very serious,
And says that he's going to get an assessment from his team,
To tell him how things are going there.
He hasn't got one recently.

He's asking for more patience,
As the murder offers hope,
And hopes that God blesses the Iraqis,
He realizes it's not the same God, no?

And it's alright,
I'm sure he knows what he's doing,
He's been doing what he's doing for a while,
And that's good enough for me.

One

I want to lose myself,
Like I am asleep,
And have the universe come crashing around me,
Until I'm no longer me.

Then will the love I've felt have reached the heights,
That I could never attain as just one,
And that has debased the love I have as a subject,
With no capacity for unison.

The power's there if it is there for anyone,
I probably have less of a hold on the world,
Than if I truly felt that I was where I was supposed to be,
My fate was long ago thrown into a whirl.

And it's alright,
My focus is quickly changing direction.
It's amazing what the creation of another one,
Will do for your stalward solipsism.

Unavoidable Depression

How can one day be high,
And the next one be so low?
I swear sometimes life seems it will be so long,
I want to just sit down and go.

My split fate line haunts me, what happens when you,
Defy the laws that gave you your creation?
I once thought of a man who did just that,
And somehow imagined for him elation.

Everyone one sees lives in fits of depression,
So I guess the purpose of that,
Is to avoid becoming completely complacent,
And not satisfied with where you're at.

And it's alright,
I'm not going to let this sadness spur me on.
I'd rather do things of my own volition,
And not admit that my decisions are wrong.

Monday, June 05, 2006

Attaining Comfort

The things you want are coming,
The universe is just making sure,
The visions in your head are understood enough,
To actually exist in nature.

Just like the pixels of your computer screen,
Though any image is at all possible,
No point can be left to its own imagination,
Or the whole plan will be foiled.

Oh god, I've given up just when you were ready,
To make me the happiest person on earth.
And there's no starting from where I had left off,
There's too many other people that have earned their worth.

And it's alright,
My talk about giving up was only a ruse,
I was only testing you and you passed.
Congratulations, now please give me my due.

Opening Eyes

Suddenly I imagined all eyes,
Open to what is around,
Pressing down on what we most dearly desire,
But not making itself found.

With total freedom what would you do?
I wonder if your actions would follow,
Anything that resembles what we now call good,
And if what we call good is what we should know.

But maybe there's a switch that can be turned on,
That will shed light for everyone about what,
We now call government, and sometimes conspiracy.
I want to know about that a lot.

And it's alright,
You don't need someone in the know to flick the switch,
Just someone free enough to touch the right chord,
And oblivious enough not to know which.

Revolutionary Urges

I'm becoming revolutionary,
For about the thousandth time.
Maybe this time I'll do something about it,
But I'm sure everything will be fine.

Will we destroy the world, or will it destroy us first,
Or will we just move to the moon?
And by "we" I mean the people with all the money.
They figured that out years ago or very soon.

But people will survive here and we are resourceful,
Though the fallout won't make us pretty.
We'll have the knowledge, but also bitterness.
Oh, who knows, maybe we will have learned humanity.

And it's alright,
Brad and Angelina are doing what they can.
Of course they have tons of money themselves,
And they aren't starting a revolution.

A Letter to the Universe

I've been trying visualization,
But it's really only been half-assed,
Oh shit, I hope that hasn't ruined what I've done so far,
Please, Universe, give me all I ask.

And it's not much, at least in so far as what,
You have to do ultimately yourself.
Just tweak a mind to do what it is I want,
I will do everything else.

I'll also imagine that it's already happened,
And let those thoughts fly softly into the air,
And hope in my heart that it not only loves me and returns,
But that it picks up some money while it is out there.

And it's alright,
Don't worry if you can't produce in the end,
I'll keep on chugging, but to be frankly honest,
I would have thought that we were better friends.

Unfair Treatment

Okay, maybe I'm not over it,
And it might be unhealthy to dredge it up,
Or this might be the final expulsion of feelings,
And I can finally wring my mop.

Ultimately, it's none of my concern,
I'll always have to respond to how you act,
And just because you act ignorantly,
It doesn't mean it needs to gore my yak.

I'll do my thing the best I can and if that,
Helps us both complete the task we're given-
Oh shit, you're probably going to take the credit.
Why do I have to work for a living?

Oh it's alright,
Like everybody else that I've met,
I don't expect to be living to work.
We'll all find freedom through the internet.

Blinding Fear of the Future

The fear's suddenly growing,
How will we survive as we are?
With another person on the way,
With one of us not working, it will be hard.

The urge to run away and pretend it's not happening,
I guess is as common as the thought of suicide,
There are people known to have done either of these,
But, unfortunately I'm not that kind.

Where is the miracle in response to my actions?
I have had faith and constant production.
I may not have the common style that makes money.
I kind of hoped I was a new generation.

And it's alright,
Maybe my windfall will come one of these days,
At least that's all I have to count on in my mind,
Because making my own success is not how I was raised.

Like a Baby

One way or another,
I'm gonna getcha.
The hours spent, I'm sure are only a drop,
But it's worth it for what I am after.

Like superhuman, but not with any powers,
With which I could save the universe,
Though some say that you can effect those around you,
I think I'll try to effect myself first.

Of course, maybe that's the key to my own failure,
Though to be honest I'm not sure that I will,
Even know when I've won, the journey's so lonely,
I may have won and don't even know it still.

And it's alright,
I guess the point is not that I know myself,
It's that those around me cower at my power,
And I, again, attain superhuman health.

Consience Feeder

I wouldn't say the guilt is killing me,
Because I think to have fatal guilt,
You need to know exactly what you've strayed from,
And I've never been of that ilk.

Of course that's not to say that something inside me,
Doesn't know exactly what I should do,
And that it's not a matter of listening to myself.
But, if you were me, would you?

It may just be a matter of acknowledging,
The things you do that make you feel ass,
And finding the common denominator,
And then knowledgeably doing that.

And it's alright,
My morning ritual's finally cleaned up my head,
Now, only if it could do the same with my conscience,
I could consider mine a life well-led.

What to do.

I am losing my way,
Because one never did seem clear.
It was always just a general idea,
That everyday I'm more near.

And maybe this feeling of waywardness,
Is just a sign that I'm on the right track.
It's the turmoil before things settle down,
To reveal a less imposing lack.

I'm not worried because life is long,
I'm worried because there's less of it every day,
And I've had plans since I was old enough to plan,
The plans have just always been kind of vague.

And it's alright,
I just have to keep the faith.
I've always felt that my best move is to go with the flow,
So, I will just keep on continuing that way.

How to Make Money

Why are you so afraid,
To spend money you don't have?
It's like it doesn't really exist,
The way if flies throught the air, over your head, so fast.

It's the greatest myth to grace our fair earth.
It bulges invisibly through the emperor's clothes.
You better believe that I'm going to try to snatch some,
Before the myth is busted and away it goes.

It's not like it was before when there was a gold standard,
And there couldn't be more than a certain commodity.
Enron has showed us that it's all about attitude,
And I'm ready to bust out like Liberace.

And it's alright,
I know it's not there to be picked up by just anyone.
But you can't win the lottery unless you buy a ticket,
And, frankly, it's making me sick that I haven't bought one.

My Wife

Never was a person,
So beautiful.
The moments that combine to make up her existence,
Are the most lucky in the world.

Rocket ships sadden because they are leaving,
Her kindness thousands of miles away.
Her laughter tickles flowers as she walks by,
And reach a little higher that day.

Surprises fall from her like rain in the Spring,
Refreshing all that find themselves under her love.
If I could just get one drop to fall on my tongue-
Well, I'd never have another euphoria above.

And it's alright,
You better bet your bottom dollar it is.
For this woman's committed her life to mine,
For the remainder of our existences.

Number One Hundred

I am at a century,
What is left to say?
Except that when I go out in the world,
I inevitably curse that day.

My choices seem to be the worst ones there are,
Okay, I'm over-exaggerating.
Besides, I feel that if I say that out loud,
It might become a self-fulfilling prophesy.

Not today, don't think it's going to change,
It always takes some time.
So start early so that one day you will find,
One hundred years have passed and you're doing fine.

And it's alright,
Maybe another hundred will pass,
And even if you haven't gone very much further,
At least you're not too unhappy where you're at.

Control

Why should you think that I,
Should go along with what you want,
When what you want's exactly what I don't,
And it was supposed to be mine from the start?

Are people stupid, selfish or need control?
I think they all amount to the same thing.
What was it that Hume said in all of his wisdom?
The outward result's, not the intention's, everything.

Now of course not will anything be said,
But poison will be made of what is thought,
And fester in my heart and destroy my liver,
Unless this fight is never fought.

And it's alright,
I can always curl back into my ball.
I reached out my hand, it was chopped off and consumed.
I've made it this far alone, after all.

Investment

Investing in oil,
Is pretty bad, I know.
Wait a second is it really that bad?
I just assumed so.

Let's see, it seems to be the impetus for war,
And when it's used it creates polution.
It helps fuel this unequal Capitalist system,
And its price has no regulations.

But money's power and one needs to wield it,
If he ever hopes to make things fair.
And no one's becoming millionaires with eco funds,
Unless by "eco" one means "I don't really care".

And it's alright,
You can't buy anything that doesn't support money.
So buy the things with the biggest returns,
And you will be finally free.

True Opportunity

Is it really possible,
That a choice in one's life,
Can really make the difference between struggling,
And being taken care of day and night?

And at the moment of that decision does one,
Fail or succeed in taking a challenge,
Or can it be that that moment is no different
Than any other, as far as you can sense?

And then, so, what's the use of doing anything?
Maybe I'm getting ahead of myself.
Such chances in life, whether obvious or dim,
Probably only happen to someone else.

Is it alright,
That I am thinking so negatively?
Doesn't everyone make their own luck?
Won't someone somewhere please tell me?

Fate Split

Is it unique to have,
Your fate line split in two?
Someone I met seemed to think so,
And didn't know what to do.

Fate is so rigid and interconnected with others,
I feel like the break was perhaps selfish,
Assuming one's fate is better for one than anything else.
Though I'm surprised you can fight it.

Or maybe my fate is to create a world,
At a moment when it's unclear which should come.
I hope I'm not the cause of world disorder,
Or of www.hotornot.com.

And it's alright,
You don't have to be rated if you don't want to.
Of course it's the responsibility of every democracy-lover,
To logon to that- and American Idol, too.

Mistakes

If I make a mistake,
And brilliantly fix it,
Am I deserving of a pat on the back,
Or is any response needed?

I guess one moment is related to another,
And so cause and effect might cancel each other out.
But each moment is also a unique event.
"What have you done for me lately?" might win out.

But why not dwell on the original fault,
And say, "you're lucky you fixed up that fuck up"?
After all, time was wasted in the reversal of the mistake.
Is that too much of "I see an half-empty cup"?

Oh, it's alright,
I guess there's no need to waste time wondering what's the best.
It's about what the Judger thinks about the Errorer,
And if the Judger passes the asshole test.

Fatigue

I'm too tired to say anything.
I've travelled too many miles today.
I must go to bed before daylight returns.
What else can I say?

Even with chaos all around my body,
My body doesn't even acknowledge.
My mind is straining to know what to find important.
It gets distracted by the thought of my bed.

So is it my body that will ultimately betray,
My desire to excel in the end?
In the end, is it not also unlimited energy,
That helps define those that the world commends?

Still, it's alright,
What is admired changes, with each generation,
With what is considered important for society.
I hope, soon, people start to admire indecision.

The Rain

Is it really so strange,
That the rain should keep me in?
Change my lifestyle so that I'm not doing-
Actually, there's nothing I'm missing.

The seasons offer opportunities to,
Reflect on Nature, yes, but also on what,
Combines to make up the person that you are,
And whether you are a lot.

But the rain, it is different from all the calm weathers,
Because to enjoy it, in it you must thrust yourself,
And give up all activities that demand you be dry.
You own the street while everyone's in his house.

And it's alright,
Even if everyone stares from their window.
Haven't you ever stood out from among the crowd?
Doing what everyone knows is fun but where no one dares go.

Foot in Mouth

Can I really be that wrong,
If my intentions were good?
I guess I wouldn't have to ask this question,
If, in the first place, I knew all that I should.

Of course there's always the translation,
That allows for not speaking from the correct place.
I understand the beauty of a bee,
Even when it stings me in the face.

And let's not even mention that the bee will die,
I'd be taking the analogy much too far.
I'd have to mention my allergy, too,
And how I cut down its hive and put it in a jar.

Hey, it's alright,
I wouldn't do something like that, now would I?
Even though I regret most of what I say,
I really am quite a decent guy.

Grammar

I have just been called racist,
For not wanting to correct someone's grammar,
Because his first language is not English,
And so I'm being a condescending humourer.

But if I don't speak his first language ,
Am I not assuming to translate,
Ideas formulated differently than my English brain would have?
What if I made a mistake?

I once wrote in Italian, though I hardly knew it,
And I felt it was a beautiful thing.
I know it probably was syntaxally horrendous,
But at least I knew what I was saying.

But it's alright,
Maybe I am racist after all.
After all, I write like English is not my first language,
And make it all ungrammatical.

The Odds

I used to think that every roll of the dice,
Was a singular event.
Fifty thousand sixes in a row?
That's just how the dice went.

But now I see that circumstances connect,
And though things could turn out any of an infinite ways,
The fact that they turn out any way at all,
Well, there's something magical in that, don't you say?

And then there's the roll of the dice of my life.
This revelation wasn't a random thing.
I shaved the sides until I got what I wanted,
Now I am living more comfortably.

And it's alright,
I'm not turning my back on my own instincts.
There's what I know and what I need to know to survive.
And may the two never relate.

Everlasting Worlds

Try to wrap my head around it,
And it focuses on the mundane.
Not that the concept's necessarily too big.
But, where to begin.

There are the moments that can be taken out of time,
And made the eternity they really are,
And there are the other infinite universes,
And then there's the interstellar.

And as a whole one cannot ignore the mind,
One of many that encompasses them,
Existing everlastingly themselves,
Thinking about work and the children.

And it's alright,
The brain just needs a little stretching.
Though what you hope to attain by getting it around it,
Really should be the thing.

Fame

I will not get depressed,
About the success of my friends.
You're judged by the company that you keep,
And they rub off on you in the end.

It's a phenomenon how people with clout,
Somehow crossed paths when they were still no one.
Okay, mom, I know that just because you have fame,
You're not a better type of person.

But that's what I want. Doesn't everyone?
Because with fame usually comes money.
It just seems like the easiest route to take,
Not to say that I am lazy.

You see, it's alright,
I've worked hard and I'll work hard again.
I just want to work hard at things I like,
And to leave the other things to other persons.

Perspective

All of a sudden I was,
Sad about the life I lived.
Was it because it was really that bad,
Or was I caught in past logic?

The light I shone upon the snapshot of my life,
Created a beautifully tragic scene.
A twist of mind easily changed how I looked.
But which light was the light of honesty?

Where does the lie lie during self-reflection?
What point serves as the measurement of what's real?
How much knowledge must I have to understand,
If I am good or am supporting evil?

Oh, it's alright,
I won't be changing my lifestyle anytime soon,
Unless a leader shows me how by just living silently,
I'm helping kill the innocent round the world.

Friday, May 12, 2006

Change

How can you be successful,
When to be succesful you must,
Be in support of a system,
That is based on being unjust?

Even if within that, one tries to create,
Something good, you cannot deny the fact,
That it exists in and therefore supports evil.
You're always already in the trap.

To lead a revolution might be the key,
But to what land is inconceivable,
And you'll be taking with you all the same people,
Who know nothing else but this unjust world.

And it's alright,
Maybe this world's not that bad.
At least we struggle with what's right and what's wrong,
Frankly, it's the best world I've ever had.

The Dialectic

I'm not going to comment,
On what inspired words.
The point is that whatever it is,
It's not what they are pointing towards.

Oh wait, I don't want to look like I am simple,
For it's not enough to look just at the One.
What about the moves that make the world come to life?
What's understanding without Relations?

I'm at a loss for forms and those things that connect them,
I should step back and look at what I've done.
Well, there it is, the relation between them both,
But by stepping back they're no longer one.

And it's alright,
I can always step back again,
Until I'm far enough from the problem, as such,
And show that the point's that it will never end.

Isolation

It's time to slow things down now,
Even my dreams are making me stressed.
They put me in a world that, though it sounds intriguing,
Is completely different.

The air is stale, I guess, but promises to freshen,
I guess, so why do I want to cry?
The world makes me feel like I have no marketable skills.
What I have to show, shows that that's not a lie.

Feeling alone is shared by many people.
It's like our greatest right in society,
Is to isolate ourselves within its bubble,
When all we want is unselfish community.

And it's alright,
Screw you all, I guess.
I know there's no one listening anyway.
If there were, I'm sure you couldn't care less.

Tuesday, May 09, 2006

Enemies

Why can't you mind your own business?
Is it because you think you have the right?
Or is it because you're completely oblivious?
Do you imagine you're at some height?

Wars are started for any of these reasons,
Depending on the other side.
Do I stand up and show you where you're wrong,
Or curl up in a little ball and die?

It's getting to the point where something must happen,
Unless you take a cue from my face,
And settle down with your intrusions,
And understand your place.

And it's alright,
Either way I will win in the end.
I have the patience of someone who's willing,
To end up with no friends.

Humanity's Improvement

This is not an exercise,
For what I might do one day.
Though that is how it's expressed in my mind,
It can't be expressed any other way.

Sometimes what's thought of as the first step in a process,
Turns out to be the process itself.
Who am I kidding? The first step's the end of the journey.
It's never anything else.

We think back to those that existed before us,
And paved the way to our generation.
We think back and wonder how they survived at all,
Without weapons of mass destruction.

But it's alright,
Even though they lacked our capacity,
For disengagement from the situation they were in,
They did as well as us with their techonology.

The Life of a Sailor

I'm not pretending to be,
In the league of a Johnny Depp.
In fact if I was left alone on a sail boat,
I'd keel it over, I bet.

I have had dreams though, where a song of the sea,
Like no other, resounded among everyone.
It acknowledged the laws that rule over it,
And the importance of communion.

There is a route that can be taken that will,
Result in the fastest way there can be.
Though that relies on unknowable knowledge of the wind,
And with your crew, complete synchronicity.

But it's alright,
What a glorious existence that would be,
Dancing in step with the very laws of nature,
Whether you're sailing or living in society.

Saturday, May 06, 2006

Rush

How can you be expected,
To just sit there while there are,
Fifty people wondering what you're doing,
While you're driving in your car?

And now you're in the store picking up your groceries,
And everyone is looking at you,
At what you're buying and at what you're not,
And at what you'll never be, too.

Life is a stage and we must each play a part,
Whether you think anyone's watching or not.
Chances are everyone's so caught up in their own role,
That not one ticket for your show's been bought.

And it's alright,
Though, that no one's watching erases anxiety,
I know it brings up the meaning of life.
I guess we all just have to wait and see.

Might

I wish I was like Spiderman.
I know, he doesn't exist.
Okay, I know it's not impossible.
Either way, that is my wish.

I could do things so fast, it wouldn't matter,
If it was time to go to work or to bed.
If something had to get done, it would be done yesterday.
I'd almost have too much time left.

Then I would have a whole different problem.
What would I do with my time?
I'd probably drink and watch lot's of TV,
Then ol' Spidey'd be like any old guy.

And it's alright,
I probably could have been a Spidey in my own right.
I probably just have the type of personality,
That, with lethargy, destroys anything of might.

Creation

I felt the genious again.
I think I was meant to think with my hands.
And by think I mean keep trying all the doors,
Until one leads to promised lands.

Can we make this a metaphor about how to live?
I guess we can if we all agree,
That the greatest joy in life is making new things.
But mabye that's only me.

Imagine standing on the shore of a great sea,
With the sand playing between your toes.
You can stay so serene forever or plunge into the ocean.
Which way do you go?

And it's alright,
You don't have to make a decision right now.
I only make them when I'm not really thinking,
And have yet to drown, somehow.

Wednesday, May 03, 2006

Thank You

Just because I do something,
For you doesn't mean I expect,
Some type of thank you because I don't need,
Some type of respect.

Of course there's nothing I could do that is something,
That someone else couldn't have done himself.
Of course I am the one that did it in the end,
While someone else told you to go fuck yourself.

In the end it doesn't matter to me,
I do things like that just because I can,
As I'm sure you do whatever it is that you do.
What is it you can do again?

But it's alright,
I sound bitter, I'm aware.
It's just that next time, if it's between two people,
I'm sure I'll help the other guy over there.

Tuesday, May 02, 2006

War

I'm not sure what to say now.
One must be peaceful until pushed.
And what is pushed is up for debate.
I don't want to bring in Bush.

Has it always been something beyond human,
That leads us into such large fights?
An Ideology creates situations,
That makes logic defer to might.

Don't get me wrong I would be the first to kill,
If my way of life was threatened.
If I just let evil strike me down unanswered,
Religion would not be impressed.

But it's alright,
Actually, I don't think it is.
Surely if we put war's energy into promoting life,
We'd have a universe of pleasantness.

Monday, May 01, 2006

Human Nature

My mind has been cleared now,
There is nothing left to say.
What good is spilling everything that you know,
If it leaves you empty one day?

That's why there are deep secrets in everybody,
Though, some of them should never be told,
Unless keeping them locked deep inside,
Outputs a human mostly defined as cold.

The best result is someone who'd not hurt a fly,
Although she does through affiliation with the world.
Maybe an activist with the knowledge of which battle to fight,
Would lead us to doing what we should.

And it's alright,
Most people are good inside, aren't they?
Things can't be as bad in the world as some people say,
That's what the bad people want us to think anyway.

Medical Revolution

Medicine is changing.
Thoughts are switching once again.
It seems right, but are we closer,
Or will we never answer the question?

Our questions've always been 'how',
And that's exactly what I learned,
When I was learning from our scholars,
But now the question 'why' has returned.

And not 'why' as in 'why has God done this?'
We would never allow that back in.
It's more like 'why has god done this?'
Oh, now I get it, it's 'Evolution'!

And it's alright,
I'm sure we'll go back to 'how' once again,
Until it's realized that what needs to be realized,
Is that the answer's not a question.

Island Bed Day

There's nothing left to do now,
No excuses get me out of bed.
If not for the beautiful things around me to soak in,
I may as well be dead.

But that's the goal, to have no responsibility,
And no wants left to satisfy.
Stripping life of all obstacles is the obstacle.
It's an obstacle just to try.

It's not enough anyway. What's that they say?
That money doesn't buy happiness?
That's because one can't be happy forever,
But I'd still take the money in a second.

And it's alright,
I know you're getting tired of it all.
Just enjoy yourself on your Island Bed Day.
Then you'll have nowhere to fall.

Politics

This is the second time I'm doing this,
But I'm never giving up.
If you think that I'm being too optimistic,
I know exactly what's in my cup.

All I need to do is have faith in the world,
And the belief that there is something for me.
It can't be that I live outside of it all.
I'm much too human to believe that might be.

I think about the lives that take care of themselves,
And of all the people depending on them.
I don't mean people like leaders of countries.
They live in worlds that I'll never understand.

And it's alright,
Politics has it's place somewhere.
But even if it was in the proverbial Eden,
I would not go there.

Worth

I can't help being honest,
About the hurt that I feel,
About the number I insulted you with,
Because I don't know how to deal.

If it was love you wanted to be paid in, then I,
Would go broke trying to give you what I think you're worth.
But when you're talking money, what can I say?
I have to think of myself first.

I want to live in a country that is free,
So I can just stock up my bi-weekly paychecks,
And live like a big shot in a foreign one,
Because freedom only rocks when others don't have it.

But it's alright,
I'll get you all I can, you know that.
Because ultimately I care more about our friendship.
Again, as long as it doesn't cut into my stash.

Knight's Quest

I'm so very tired now,
But the mission is complete.
I hope that my liege isn't as harsh,
As I am on me.

My eyes are playing tricks like when I was guarding,
All night the trinkets of a great lord.
I chased the thieves halfway to their own front door,
And would have gladly fallen on their swords.

But that is how my self-doubt shows itself,
As a function of the great deeds I have done.
Except where my own hubris undermines,
Any chance at succession.

And it's alright,
This feeling will go away after a night's sleep.
Unfortunately that's not coming this fair night.
It's far too close to dawn, my daily job to keep.

Tuesday, April 25, 2006

First Nations

It's great to see that we now,
Have a great relationship with natives.
The old story of how we came and took their lands,
Has always made me feel real big.

And of course my language indicates my colour,
And by colour I mean state of mind.
They may as well live in another universe,
For how much they're welcomed in the country, I find.

And now they're standing up for their rights,
Not even 200 miles away from here.
That's the same amount of years that they've been fighting,
An enemy that's always waited out the years.

And it's alright,
Even though I'm distracted right now,
I'm almost inclined to join them in protest,
Though, with my job, I don't know how.

Monday, April 24, 2006

Uninspiring

The world seems so much brighter,
When the moment is taken out,
Sliced up and taken opportunity to,
Let it all hang out.

And some of them have felt like the end all and be all,
The one on top from which you can only descend.
It is still there and might be the highest peak,
But can still be saved for the end.

You want some meaning so you create a child,
From jealousy of seeing others around.
I never expected it to spur me on so.
I must use talents that have yet to be found.

And it's alright,
I'm going to give it to you straight up.
I'm just waiting for someone to come around,
To put some pennies in my cup.

Information Age

I think that there's a real danger,
With all the stuff available for one's brain.
It used be that there was not much to know,
Except what you did everyday.

Maybe it's because I can't keep nothing in my head,
That my brain does not explode with the heat,
That this constant flow of info must create.
Or is it because I don't really read?

But info's one thing and the truth is another.
Does Bush really want to use hydrogen?
Because sometimes I think people just say things,
Just for appearances.

And it's alright,
Someone once told me that you must take everything,
With a grain of salt, but with what today has to offer,
I'll probably die of dehydration.

Onyeka George Nwelue

Was it always so easy to be touched,
As it is with the way we traverse,
The world like we do with the internet?
Of course, now it's a bigger earth.

And one could not always find right next door,
A person living in the same world.
And though an alien once made fun of me for this rhyme,
We all share in the same circle.

The paths I walk are more scenic when I,
Like my mom said, follow the universe.
If I meet another person like Onyeka,
The excitement might make me burst.

And it's alright,
One only need faith even when things are bad.
Just one magical moment from the past will prove,
There are poets born in every land.

Being Canadian

I want to know what you're thinking,
Because it will have an effect on how,
I live the rest of my life.
I'm a bit insecure right now.

It's about a body part I'd rather not mention.
Let's just say a grotesque attribute is involved.
I'm worried enough about your opinion of me,
And my neurosis is too finely evolved.

That's the thing about being Canadian,
That people around the world just don't understand.
It's so hard when you're brought up in a place that is so afraid,
To step out of the crowd and proclaim something not bland.

And it's alright,
I know I don't have it that tough in the end.
I'm not pulled from my house and destroyed with silence,
Unless there's any chance I might offend.

Time Capsule

When you think of something,
Add it on to the list before,
Don't write it down because it may erase,
The overwhelming feeling of horror.

Unless you're the type to try and take things easy,
I go through that phase sometimes, too.
There's this strong delusional feeling,
That life should be joyous inside of you.

But the Leaf's are out, and tasks are starting to pile,
And people in general are really letting you down.
Raze everything that makes up your life if you can.
What's buried in rubble will eventually be found.

And it's alright,
Even if it is not found by you.
Those in the future will be happy to find it,
And to do those things you needed to do.

Hallelujah

I can’t get Hallelujah,
Out of my head.
I’m in a foreign country now.
Where was I when I got out of bed?

There are a lot of things I’d change about myself,
Like, er, my memory and understanding.
That might seem harsh, but my true indifferent self,
Provides a fairly safe landing.

I haven’t been AWOL, I’ve only been severed,
From the technology that’s so much a part of life.
It’s part of my holy trinity,
Between my bambino and my wife.

And it’s alright,
Just let it flow as if you’re meditating.
You might just hit on something that will seem right.
You could find the answer to everything.

Returning Home

I am feeling sadder,
Than I have in a long time.
I never thought that what I’ve done in the past,
Would have drawn such a different line.

It’s like nothing was like what it was before,
And I’m a different person from yesterday.
Can one thousand miles have an effect on the soul?
Because I cannot live this way.

Pulled from the roots and left lying on the ground,
The exposure’s having its way with me.
I can’t return home, so I think it is best,
That in the hot sun you just let me be.

And it’s alright,
I’ve had these self-destructive thoughts in the past,
I’m just as happy to return to my bliss,
As to let this self-preoccupation last.

Youth

I just came from Dancing Waters,
Where the ducks nest outside your door,
And youth reminds you of the worries it lacks,
And the idleness it adores.

And why should that be lost upon the attainment,
Of the responsibility of others' lives?
It still exists nestled deep within your heart.
Don't forget it when adulthood arrives.

Smash the inclination to harden your heart,
To keep abandonment from wandering out.
How do you deal with others trying to get in,
If you're that way with your most intimate self?

And it's alright,
I know the world discourages remembering.
Most strategies are based upon the public's stout,
And immensely reliable short memory.

Sore Eyes

I can hardly see now,
I guess that is my own fault.
Perhaps if I had the confidence I would,
Not have to express my love in the dark.

The times are over when a person can just,
Be as open as his heart could desire.
Such behaviour can only be a lie.
Do I have any buyers?

Let's be real, things are being done for appearances.
Do you really think all of the hoopla,
Being created by celebs over the environment, is real?
Do ya?

And it's alright,
Maybe I'm just trying to fill in the space,
So that I can deny being a liar.
Maybe I'm only worried about my own face...

Survival Training

Does it necessarily mean something,
When you dream about your boss,
And about causing the demise of your company?
Do you think that is too much?

What about yelling at the people driving,
Trying to get home after work just like you?
Or crying while you're sitting on the toilet?
And drinking yourself to sleep, too.

Of all these things I have to fess up to one,
Though any one of them I feel is too much.
People would be much more relaxed in general,
If our work was geared to survival as such.

But it's alright,
Maybe pushing a pencil will help me out in the end.
Perhaps I will be attacked by a tiny swordsman,
And a pencil's all I will have with which to defend.

Demands

I can't really talk now,
Life has demanded my time.
That's the way it goes, I guess you can't plan,
On everything always being fine.

That's what depresses many, some close to me.
Why can't one only be responsible for oneself?
But if Hume was anywhere near right,
That's a part of society's wealth.

So where's the person if he's split in two?
What side does he end up falling on?
Does he switch between living for himself and others,
Or does society leave him in oblivion?

And it's alright,
I don't have time to think of these things right now.
It's Easter and I have to visit my in-laws.
If you figure it out, please let me know how.

Time To Do Something

Can it take just one day,
To turn your life around?
I know I've seen it done many times,
But then always come back around.

It may be just belief that allows for the transition,
As well as favourable outward factors,
And of course luck has to play a part in this.
Without that, then what the hell is life for?

Relax your mind and imagine that you'll do,
All the things in life you've ever wanted to.
Without that self visualization,
The universe will never notice you.

And it's alright,
As long as you are alive, you have hope.
Ecclesiastics says that live dogs are better off than dead lions.
Hey, whatever floats your boat.

Mores

Can frustration make you crazy?
And by crazy, I mean change.
And by change, I mean for the better.
Did I lock myself in a cage?

The ties that bind have me from a million directions.
I know, because I tied them myself,
From the good advice of the world that I live in.
Against the best interest of my health.

That's right just let it out, don't hold anything back,
Once you've deflated you will have lots of room,
To allow all the frustration to build up again,
And to forget your need to change very soon.

But it's alright,
You'll be filled up again eventually,
And if it's not an ulcer that forms in your body,
It might be the power to change finally.

Stress

It must take a special person,
To be able to take so much,
Or even to want to try to take anything.
That's a realm I don't want to touch.

But what else can you do? That's how the world is.
You must care about things that don't mean anything,
To anything having to do with why,
We even find ourselves living.

I guess the trick is to do one thing at a time,
And to treat those things as opportunities,
Not as a stepping stone to success or failure,
But as a chance to experience purity.

And it's alright,
It's never too late to make something meditation.
Block all else out but the task at hand,
And turn it into a revelation.

Old Friends

It's nice to hear from people,
That you haven't heard from in a while.
It reminds you of the person that lives
As a different version of your style.

It helps to narrow down the person you are,
And remind you of the things in your past,
That remind you of who you don't want to be,
And of the person you hope will last.

The time that's skipped when you come back from the dead,
And return to where you left off,
May as well have never existed.
The bookend minutes are enough.

And it's alright,
The stuff in between is important too, I guess,
They stop a complete inward collapse,
Of all the moments that are left.

How To Get By

It's not really what people think of you,
But of what you have done.
As long as you wear a mask while you're doing it,
It can feel like fun.

Why be anxious about the interpretation?
You already know what it is.
What's that they say? "As soon as someone else sees it,
The interpretation's all his."

"It's just a stepping stone anyway", you tell yourself,
Whoring's necessary to finish.
And when you're done it'll be a funny anecdote,
To tell to your grandkids.

And it's alright,
They won't believe half of it anyway.
Like how they made cards out of Iraq's fifty-two.
"A world couldn't have run that way."

Coping

The line is very narrow,
And on either side is my demise.
Thank god I continue below it the same height,
'Cause I'd be sure to capsize.

What they say is true, you can't stop the world turning,
And with that, you can't stop the movement of your life.
It drags you along unless you can keep up.
My speed is fine, but the rest is a roll of the dice.

My philosophy is to take you as far,
As I am willing to go in my own head.
And if you don't think that you've seen it before,
I'll keep on taking you until I am dead.

And it's alright,
You don't always have to describe what you see.
Sometimes a scaffold that others can climb,
Will describe more, if they can go up to peek.

Death of a Family Member

Maybe it is the death,
That's making me so surly.
I can't think what else could be causing it.
It's not my wife's stressing out, surely.

It has to be that I will never again see,
My uncle, who I already saw rarely.
His ever-happy face that shone through, through his illness,
Made me wish I knew him when he was thirty.

I may be over-sensitive to her reactions,
When they are completely over-exaggerated.
This is the woman with whom I will be forever,
And who, to my family just commiserated.

And it's alright,
I may be saying more than I really should.
Why don't you look in the obituaries?
They'll tell you more than I ever possibly could.

Priorities

How is it that I cannot,
Step out of my own mind?
Am I really all that there is?
Would the universe be so unkind?

Of all the thoughts that take up most of my time,
I'm embarrassed to admit which are most.
Sometimes the least important guest at a party,
Turns out to be the host.

But if you fail what will become of the rest?
You know that this world is made for the one,
Who sacrifices all his natural rights,
For the chance to get a promotion.

And it's alright,
If it doesn't work out I can always do what I always do,
And that's to throw up my hands and give it all up.
Hey, Eye of the Tiger- fuck you.

Zio Ettore

I'm finding it really difficult,
This sounds like such a cliche,
To find the right words to talk about you,
In any meaningful way.

I knew you all my life but to be honest,
It's your smile that I remember the most.
Even though we really didn't speak the same language,
Your meaning was never lost.

No matter what I expressed, you seemed so happy.
You smiled through every body part.
I never felt a moment of judgment from you.
You had a truly gentle heart.

And it's alright,
Your last days weren't the easiest,
But when I saw you I still saw a strong heart.
Thank you, le zi, you will be truly missed.

Biographies

If you look at a person's life,
As a whole, after they're dead,
Every moment seems to be leading up,
To when their life comes to a head.

Though everything in reality goes against it,
Including intentions, thoughts and ways of the time.
The final outcome can be traced back to any moment,
And so, every moment was a necessary kind.

Even those moves that are bad no matter what,
Led one onto the trail to one that was good.
And if that life is an enviable one,
Everything seems to have gone as it should.

So it's alright,
Even if every move from now on just sucks,
As long as in the end I come out on top,
My life will seem filled with nothing but luck.

Regrets

In the silence of vibration,
Is where you'll find yourself,
And all those moments when you didn't perform,
Due to some self-regulating force.

Does it teach you who you are, or does it point out,
The things in life that you must avoid?
Should you not face your fears through hell and high water,
Or are they places you should avoid?

In that silence did all my fears return.
Now I must google moments out of my past.
Regret must be acknowledged for what it is,
And that is that you are defined by what you have passed.

And it's alright,
Life only offers you pictures of what it could be.
You go in that direction and you're in a car crash.
Defy your instinct and you're drowning at sea.

Having a Baby

Everyday something happens,
That changes life a little more.
Like losing one of your favorite silkies,
Or making a bambino.

But as long as our lives stay as one like they are,
That sameness will always run through.
So, even if we wake up and everything’s different,
You have me, and I have you.

And nothing changes that can completely destroy,
Who you were before it ever became,
The most important aspect of your new life.
The person experiencing it will never change.

And it’s alright,
My excitement won’t be measurable.
If we make a baby together,
The world will be that much more beautiful.

Making It

I started on the journey,
Of caring for myself.
I know it's rare for people to burst the bubble,
But when I do I'll toast to your health.

And what about the origins of everyone else?
You're either destined to be rich or poor,
And whether that is in money or love,
Why should you deserve it more?

I won't be sorry providing for my family,
That's where all our energy's supposed to go, isn't it?
That's why it's bad to live only for yourself,
Unless you're richer than a pig in shit.

And it's alright,
This is a matter of life and death, right?
And no matter who you are, you're going to die.
Unless you're rich enough to be put on ice.
