The Unpredictable

When it is all over,
What will people say,
About the life you lived,
And the choices you made?

Will they say every step,
You took, they could have called,
Based on the obviousness of who you are,
And your remedial,

Understanding of yourself?
Do you really think,
That living per a standard,
Necessitates an obvious link,

To being alright?
Life shouldn't be a dream.
Ups and downs should be brought on by you,
Not by the whims of the stream.

The World As We Know It

You are never in,
The life that you're in,
For it is only ever the projection,
Of your imagination,

And when you want to get out of it,
Well, that's a conundrum,
'Cause there is nowhere to actually go,
That isn't still an illusion,

Unless you create another one,
Within the one you've been constructin',
Except, rather than having a structure,
It's at your brain's whim,

Which is alright,
If you don't want to live,
But if pain isn't that repugnant to you,
Then life's your only alternative.

How To Undress

How do you take your clothes off,
Do you think of what comes first,
And do you turn just so,
So as not to show your curse?

Do you wish you had worn something else,
Beneath your denim jeans?
And as you do this, are you really,
As sexy as you seem?

Will you be the same person,
Once everything is off,
Or will you be more truly you,
Or not as soft?

Will it be alright,
If I say something untoward,
Or will you put it all back on,
If I say one more word?

Self-Help

I think I finally got it,
People do not want to know,
What they already know,
They just want to go,

With their minds to things,
That make them happy and giggle,
Because the point is to be happy,
So don't waist time to figure,

How to get there, you already are,
If you just pop up the sides of your mouth.
Don't worry if it's superficial,
You can muscle the sadness out.

And it's alright,
If it does not last,
Nothing does,
And you can always relapse.

Reconciling the Fissure

What will you become,
In the fissure between,
Who you are to the world,
And what you want to be,

When you have so much responsibility,
You feel towards how its run,
While still needing to maintain,
Your own situation,

When you're handed the laws by which,
You must live to survive,
As truly human,
And worthy of hire?

Are you alright?
Are there too many restraints,
Keeping you from being,
What everyone says you ain't?

Raise Yourself

when you have young children,
As we all do, in our hearts,
You must forego all other tasks,
Until you've done your part,

To nurture them and show them,
That they are the most important thing,
In you're life, not to spoil them,
But to give them dignity,

And self-worth, for you've only one chance,
Because, mark my word,
They will grow and either nurture you,
Or throw you to the curb,

Which is alright,
If all you care about is yourself,
But if you want to pass on love and peace,
Shower it on someone else.

What Do You See?

If you're looking on the horizon,
What do you see?
Is your mind filled with thoughts of its beauty,
Or possibilities?

Both views hold potential,
For the education of humankind,
Through verse or exploration,
Still, yet, undefined,

Like the source of the colors,
Whether refraction or God,
You will have ears to listen,
If truth is your guide.

But you won't be alright,
If you wish to touch others,
And leave it all inside,
Because you don't see what you offer.

Defying Poetry

A poem need not be,
An investigation of the self,
Through a moment plucked out of time,
In words chosen to delve,

Into a world opaque to most,
Though there is a place for these.
But what about the broad strokes,
And universalities,

That show most, easily,
That we are all connected,
By a question that's defied,
All who've contended?

So, it's alright,
Go ahead and try to grasp,
That Space within us all,
With a poetical hand.

Away From The Storm

The wind was blowing branches,
Right off of their trees,
Stages fell and canoes flew,
All without much warning,

And I stood out there for a brief moment,
To feel the wind on my face,
Which was glorious, until I thought,
About my current place,

Of responsibility that I have,
To my family.
I can't stand out among the lightning,
Because it's not just me,

It's others, now, alright?
I'm not just myself,
And it takes a little twist of thought,
To keep that off the shelf.

How To Get Ahead

Just keep on trucking,
'Cause if you don't, you're liable to find,
That when you get to where you finally end up,
You've been left behind,

By all of those that you admired,
But didn't understand why,
Until you're standing on the roadside,
Watching them all drive by,

'Cause they have gas and they have direction,
And they had the foresight,
To know that you can't stay in one place forever,
And you can't always hitch a ride.

So, it's alright,
If you're not as far as you thought you'd be,
As long as where that exactly is,
Is also haunting your dreams.

The Next Stage

Sometimes you have to wonder,
What is out there for you,
When all you have is what you have,
With nothing to do,

With nothing that saves you from the precipice,
Of going just a little too far,
And sticking out your neck a little too much,
So that people see who you are,

And offer you the ability,
To change everything around you,
Again and again and again, again,
Until there is nothing new,

Only alright,
Because consistency breeds ennui,
And nothing bores you more than constant change,
And uncertainty.

When You're Dead

You don't have to worry,
About what you have done,
Because every action is infitismal,
Compared to the eons,

Of time that's past since it's been measured,
Though, when you think of it,
There are a few whose memories live on,
Because of what they did,

And if you believe that spirit is,
What people remember you as,
Then, if you want to exist forever,
Then you have to surpass,

Being alright,
And be phenominal,
And try to have some identity,
And morals.

The Anger Inside

Yes, you can have anger,
With no way to hold it back,
Even if you know that it's coming,
Because of something that you lack,

Which could be patience, or foresight,
Or even the ability,
To deal with what you deal with everyday.
It's your personaility.

And when you wonder if it will end,
Or you can be cured,
You don't actually want to change yourself,
You want to change the world.

Alright, alright,
Forget about your frown,
And what to do about it.
Turn the world upside down!
