Stay the Same by Changing

You can do exactly what you want to,
Without input from anyone,
And that may be a reflection of who you are,
Or a fabrication,

Because you without the benefit,
Of any outside experience at all,
Could only be a blank canvas.
We all need some initial,

Interaction with the outside world,
To grow and learn how we react.
And being free and evolving humans,
We must never stop the act,

Of this comedy, alright?
Or we'll never know if we've changed,
And are behaving against our nature,
For the sake of staying sane.

Frustration

Frustration is funny,
It's not something you can ignore,
Or that makes other people easy to deal with,
Nor,

Is it something that disappears,
Just by saying it's so.
It can only be buried down deep,
And destroy you as you go.

And really, what is it?
It's a determination that,
Life should mold itself to your image,
And it can't.

And it's alright,
Frustration can be good,
If it's because you're being kept,
From what you mistakingly think you should.

The Best Laid Plan

The best laid plans,
Rely on so much,
And often fail, due to unforeseen events,
And so are not really plans, as such,

Except so far as they assume that things,
Will continue in a predictable way,
And, of course, the world sincerely hopes,
That they will one day.

And the solution is not to not plan at all,
For the perception of freedom is then lost.
So just expect the unexpected and you,
Will not underestimate the cost,

Of being alright,
Which is incalculable,
For when you can't count on anything,
Your contingency is invaluable.

How To Change

There's lots of reasons for not being good,
Not just that it's your Nature,
And that's, in fact, not the greatest obstacle,
When wanting to change your future,

Because Nature is nothing if you deny it,
Even if that doesn't change a thing.
"I decree I'm this way due to upbringing,"
And upbringing just becomes the thing,

Because the only thing you can't deny,
Is the result of your actions,
And if you want to actually change their result,
You have to take responsibility for them.

And it's alright,
If that's not really your thing,
That may just be part of human Nature,
Judging from history.

Make Time

There is no time,
To think about how little time there is,
Or reflect upon how unfair,
Is existence,

Or how society has determined,
The amount of hours that is acceptable,
That you spend at work, which is most of your life,
Because you have to pay the bills,

Unless you're rich enough to have someone pay them,
Or poor enough that they don't apply.
Really, the middle class is just what it needed,
Once slavery was run dry.

And it's alright,
The point is really not about how you're screwed,
It's about living each moment like it's your last,
'Cause you don't know when your time is due.

Don't Plan

Nothing motivates more,
Than immediacy,
Nor is there anything better at also producing,
Idiocy,

For what is more contrary to good planning,
Than the scurried grasping at what is there,
Immediately to help you in your task,
Instead of thinking ahead of it when you must care,

About the outcome? Because no matter what,
It is you are preparing for,
The earlier, the more removed,
Whether for a party or a funeral.

And it's alright,
People will understand,
That you had little time in which to prepare,
Because you didn't plan.

Coping With Life

Here's how to avoid ups and downs,
Stop your heart and cease to live,
Do not care for anything or anyone,
And no longer give,

A modicum of attention to what you might want,
To happen in reality.
Live life solely in your mind, and you might,
Finally feel free.

But if you don't mind disappointment and glory,
Take a chance on the most intense sense,
For though you can't prove it's realer than your dreams,
They certainly are the most intense.

And it's alright,
You can always retreat back into your mind.
That is the beauty of reality,
You can always leave it behind.

Learning What You've Said You Know

In those moments,
When you think you will be found out,
For the fraud you are, because you don't know,
Everything you purport,

And you keep your mouth tight shut,
As if you're weighing everything another says,
Against your vast knowledge that doesn't exist,
And your judgement that's even less,

It may be prudent to stop and consider,
If anyone might really possess,
The understanding you're won't to assume,
Runs deep within their own breast.

And it's alright,
If you think they really might.
Just look at it as an opportunity,
To learn and attain a greater height.

The Greatest Tragedy

Yes, the world can be cruel,
In so many forms:
Through peoples' actions or the acts of governments,
And, sometimes, from just being born.

Sometimes the ones you love hurt you the most,
And sometimes, it's just a stranger,
Or, stranger still, it can be the weather,
That provides the danger,

To your way of life and state of mind,
And you begin to wonder,
How anyone gets by at all,
Without being deafened by the thunder,

Of not being alright,
Because who really is?
The greatest tragedy of life itself,
Is that everyone goes through this.

Relatively Tragic

All these other worlds,
Are variations of your own,
If you assume that everyone sees the same things,
And that all the same things are known.

But it could be that there's a different knowledge,
Embedded in a different sort,
Rendering a wholly different experience,
Significantly short,

Of what you think there really is.
Isn't that depressing?
That there are things under the sky you can never know,
Just because of your positioning.

And it's kind of alright,
That they'll never know what you know, too,
Until you reflect upon the fact that there will always be,
People better off than you.

The People You Meet

Don't bother listening to anyone,
No one tells you what they want to hear,
And no one will ever admit that they aren't,
Absolutely clear,

And people will definitely pretend,
Rather than show themselves in the light of truth,
Which means that everyone you meet,
Has something to prove,

And if you can figure out,
Exactly what's at stake,
In the mind of everyone that you meet,
Well, then, the world is yours to take.

And it's alright,
You don't want to destroy the mystery of life.
You may as well live on a desert island,
If you're going to reach that height.

Expecting Fate

Don't count on anything,
Or anyone,
To be or do exactly what you want,
Because that's not a fair expectation,

Of free beings, if you want to,
Think that way.
But, if you want to live life predetermined,
I'm with you any day.

But, still don't count on anything,
Or anyone,
To be or do exactly what you want,
Because they're not responsible for their actions.

But it's alright,
You can always count on you,
To do what you want, even if it is not,
What you think you want to do.

Sticky Fingers

I'm not sure if the Canadians' snow pants,
Are too tight for boardercross,
But I do know that if they didn't wear any at all,
The Americans would be less cross,

And if they wore them with anchors on chains,
No one would be saying a word,
Lest someone notice that it's bad for the hill,
When they drag them as they go forward.

And if their pants were as tight as they are now,
But they were the worst snowboarders in the land,
It would be interesting if anyone got mad,
Or if they'd let them do what they can.

And it's alright,
Nothing stays the same.
Even the oldest of gentlemen's agreements',
Time once came.

Going For Gold

Better late, than never,
Though the alternative is,
Preferrable by more than you'd think,
Because the effort is so much less,

And the risk is not atrractive,
For those who prefer the sure thing,
To the satisfaction of getting what you want,
From really trying,

Like an Olympian who must know nothing,
But the task at hand,
And live entirely for success.
Something most of us can't understand.

And it's alright,
Anyway you are.
The trick is knowing what that is,
And you are guaranteed to get far.

What There Is

There is really no point,
In not reaching out,
To the thing that seems to be the same,
As what seems to shout,

From your heart as what there is,
Because, let's face it,
Either you think like everyone else,
Or you have to be resilient,

And remember what there really is,
Which is not a lot,
Unless you consider everything you see,
As everything you've got.

Which is alright,
Because there's really nothing else,
Even your most secret thoughts,
Are a reflection of your self.

Time For Change

Have you ever wondered,
What this generation is to do,
With its internet and environment,
And new millenium, too?

Surely, it is meant for something great,
Or, at least revolutionary.
So where are great ideas that make us think,
Outside the ordinary?

Where are the directives, not to connect,
But to sever all ties as we know them,
And to engage a new turn of mind,
And thus creating a new human?

Oh, it's alright,
A revolution's not required, I guess.
I just thought some people might want to try,
An approach to life less innocuous.

You're Growing Up

Once in a while,
You will feel like you're the only one,
Who does or has or ever will understand,
Your situation,

Because in all the world, in all time,
There's never been anyone like you,
And that no one's ever done quite the same things,
Which is probably true,

And you may also feel like the only one,
Who really understands,
How the world really should behave,
To truly unite humans.

And it's alright,
Don't feel like you're too self-involved,
The thing is all of this might just be true,
It's just a step as you evolve.

Fear

Don't assume anything,
Will stay the same,
Whether government structures,
Or your own name,

For what you believe,
Is the most important thing there is,
Even if the thing itself hasn't changed,
No matter how much you've wished,

That you had the power,
To change who you are,
So you can be,
The star,

You always thought you were, alright?
Well, maybe it would be easier,
To change everyone else,
Than to live in fear.

When All's Against You

It all can change so quickly,
Whether from tragedy or fortune,
Whether because something snapped in your brain,
Or because you peaked too soon,

Or because of someone else's actions,
Or lack thereof,
Or maybe an enemy finally got his way,
Or that enemy is yourself,

Or the world around you has become something else,
Than what you grew up with,
And left you behind as it journeyed on,
Leaving you wondering if,

It will be alright,
And whether you will get by,
Because no one can give you guarantees in this life,
And if they do, then they've lied.

Keep Your Ideas

You're really caught between a rock,
And a hard place,
When you want to find out if an idea you have,
Already exists in space,

Because the act of searching the info itself,
Broadcasts the idea to the world,
And puts you in a race you'd rather not be in,
Against people you're,

Never going to meet and who exist,
Just to feed off people like you.
Really makes you want to just build things for yourself,
And not search for anything that's new.

But it's alright,
Maybe you should not be so paranoid,
Or so protective of your ideas,
Or try to make any dough.

Stay The Same

There is no going back,
When your pride is in the way,
Unless you're willing to forget yourself
Or, at least, who you say,

You are and run the risk of losing,
That person forever,
And rearranging your jumble of perceptions,
Into another form,

That would be derided by the one you were,
If it still existed,
But which you still remember, because somehow,
Some nugget of it has resisted,

And made you not alright,
With compromising.
It's only the pride before the fall,
If you accept losing.

Expectation

Not everything can happen in time,
And even less in yours.
If you're looking for something to happen,
Don't look for it within a course,

Of events, and definitely not,
In a specific spot within.
You're lucky if it happens at all,
And should be surprised at its position.

And when it happens, thank the lord,
Or whoever you might think gave it life,
Because, in truth, it could have just as easily not happened,
Regardless of your strife.

And it's alright,
Another trick to avoid disappointment,
Is to wish for nothing at all.
Doesn't that sound like pure enjoyment?

Do What You Say

Doing is more than saying,
And saying is more than that.
There is a whole intention involved,
Which has no relation to the act.

And saying backed up by doing is the best,
Else, it's neither external or internal,
It's just some vibrations in the air,
That don't exist if no one's a hearer.

And even less are the words after the fact,
To discuss what would have been done,
Had circumstances been any different.
That just shows a lack of dedication.

But it's alright,
Feelings come into this a little bit.
It might help if you show some regret,
For completely effing up it.

Revolution Revisited

What is state of the art?
It has something to do,
With the art of the state,
And how it manipulates you,

And how trends serve to serve the monetary system.
Stop and consider this:
Why is it money is the only thing,
Keeping the world doing what it,

Knows it should do, but for lack of funds,
For lack of this thing that doesn't really exist?
The only thing that ever threatens to topple it,
Is the threatening pumping of fists.

And it's alright,
I'm not suggesting anything of the kind.
I don't have the money to pay for a revolution.
Oh, wait, all I need is people and time...

For Other Reasons

If you can't believe it,
Just stop to consider that,
No thing you can consider in this world,
Is no more a believable fact,

And if you really stop and think about it,
Like that caveman played by Jack Black,
How weird is it that the sounds coming from your mouth,
Cause others to act?

And how weird is it that when no one knows,
Where we actually came from,
That something as banal as money (which is not real),
Demands such consideration?

Oh, it's alright,
I know money makes the world go round.
How silly would it be if we all just did things,
Because, utilitarianly, they are just sound?
