The Clothes

It can all turn around,
So quickly that,
You have no faith any longer,
In the facts,

Like that things were never actually,
Really that bad,
The foul mood you found yourself in,
Had no connection to the past,

Or the world can change as quickly,
As you change your pants,
Or even when you change them,
As if your clothes give you your only chance,

Of being alright,
The clothes do make the man,
When the man thinks of the clothes,
As a reflection of his plans.

No Sense

It's not that I don't think it,
I just shouldn't have said so,
Or really told you I shouldn't have said it,
Becauser for you to know,

What I'm thinking is not the way,
To really be the bigger man,
It's disingenuous to call you an ass,
And then apologize for the comment,

Well, what do you know,
I can't imagine much,
Not because there's not much that you know,
But I can't imagine, as such.

Alright, alright,
Let's start this again,
Forget the fact that I said anything,
About the fact that you have no sense.

Serious Play

This is very serious,
It's training for when I get older,
That's why I don't smile when I'm playing with dad.
I'm going to be a builder,

I'm going to follow instructions,
Just like the pages of this book,
Showing how to build this rocket ship.
Just take a look!

We're halfway through,
If you don't consider,
All the time spent,
Grouping the blocks together.

Because it's alright,
To play around with toys,
But don't confuse sillyness,
With Lego and boys.

Who You Are

You can't really be blamed,
For the way you are,
Just as the credit for your good traits,
Are because the apples haven't fallen far,

Like a tool you know how to use,
The ones you don't are useless,
They, in fact, just get in the way,
And make your life a great big mess.

So now you stand here with your hat in your hand,
Blaming your past for yourself,
Asking for more when you have no room,
On your tool shelf.

Alright,
Take this one right here,
But you're not leaving with it until,
You can hold it with no fear.

Rebooting

You have to sometimes return,
To what you know best,
As a form of self improvement,
To support your confidentlessness,

And to remind yourself of who you are,
And what you should be doing,
Except for needing to make enough,
To support your family,

Because it's not always true,
You can't always do what you love,
Because not everything is valued by others,
Enough to give you enough.

So it's alright,
Go away to reboot,
If you have enough put away,
Or vacation days coming to you.

Play With Me

Will you play with me now?
And I don't mean in a minute,
Or after you finish reading one more page,
My time is precious, isn't it?

I don't want to wait for you to finish,
The conversation you're in.
Why is it everything should get done now,
Except my enjoyment?

Take this doll and shake it around.
Just imagine it's talking to mine.
We'll be done before you can find your keys,
Which is what you're doing this time.

It's not that hard, alright?
I don't ask for much, do I?
Just forget yourself for a little while,
And play with this cute little guy.

The Break In Between

There needs to be some breaks,
From what you do every day,
For variety, for certainty,
But, more to keep depression at bay,

To get a perspective on what you do,
From someone else other than others,
So you can reflect, using the benefit,
Of the minds of two lovers,

The one, of how things are and always should be,
In contrast to the one,
Who longs for no stability,
And constant revolution.

And it's alright,
They will have their spats,
It's the moments in between that define life,
And give meaning to all the facts.

My Brother

It's so great to have a brother,
That can show me what to do,
Like how to bang around the house,
Yelling loud, "choo, choo!",

Until we are asked to stop,
One last time,
And we join together in a chorus,
Of a spectacular whine.

Do I want to watch TV?
My bro knows what to do:
Yell (check), don't stop (check),
Oh, and check my cuteness box, too.

It's hard, alright,
To remember everything,
That my brother shows me,
But he's patient, when teaching.

Pajama Time

You can't catch me,
It doesn't matter if you want to,
I'm in the mood for flying,
Like uncatchable runners do.

You may get frustrated,
I don't blame you for your frown,
Those pajamas won't put on themselves,
Especially while I'm upside-down.

Well, now I'm just super-fast,
Happy as I can be,
Free, like every grown-up,
I ever did see.

Hey, it's alright,
If it makes you that sad,
I'll stop for the night,
And read books with you, dad.

Little Ladybug

Hello little lady bug,
Jump into my box,
I'd like to be your friend,
And see you a lot.

What is it you eat?
Let me call you Tommy.
I've peaked again, and you seem alright,
Did you just wave to me?

I'll see you later,
I've got a world to save,
When I find this box again,
Then, again, we can play.

Oops, it's alright,
I see you're not moving today,
You're probably too tired,
To play.

What Good Are Clothes?

I don't need to get dressed,
There is no reason.
There are blankets I can wrap around me,
Depending on the season,

Or I can just walk around naked.
No one really cares,
And if you want to put sunblock on me,
Well, it's better if I'm bare,

And if it's raining, an umbrella will do,
What good would a raincoat be?
Especially since when I get wet,
You can just wipe the water off me.

And it's alright,
If you're wearing clothes,
You can do whatever you'd like.
I'm not as particular as you, you know.

The Builder

I want to be a builder,
So I'm practicing everyday,
With toys of different materials,
Like blocks and lego and clay,

First I give a name,
To the thing I want to make,
Like zoomobile or around-the-corner house,
Whatever pops into my brain,

Then I draw what it looks like,
Because you need to have a plan,
And in case it accidentally falls apart,
And you want to build it again.

And it's alright,
If I don't build everything I want to,
You just need to finish one building,
To know what you can do.

Christmas

What does Christmas mean to me?
Do you have to ask?
It's days and days of wondering,
When it will be here, at last,

And asking everyday,
Trying to understand how long it is,
And getting sad when I realize,
It's not this moment,

But I can still spend my time,
Thinking about the one thing,
I've asked for, and if I don't get,
Will be most disappointing,

Because, that's Christmas, alright?
And, yes, I give things, too.
It's my yearly lesson in receiving,
More than I give to you.

Money

I don't know what the big deal is,
About money.
I find it all the time,
And it seems to get me lots of things,

It comes to me from grandma,
And even on the floor I find me some,
And I hand it to my dad sometimes,
And buy myself some fun.

But, my parents are always saying,
That it doesn't grow on trees,
And I can't have that or do something,
That is really, really easy.

I guess it's alright,
Maybe I can wait until I'm big,
When I'm in charge of the money,
And can buy anything.

Picture Story

When I draw my picture story,
I will make sure it includes,
My best friend, who is the person, for adventure,
That I always choose,

Because I plan to be in a space ship,
Dodging aliens who want to take,
Our hats, that can transform into anything.
We want to make,

Like a snack or suitcase,
To hold my beads and toys.
If the aliens got a hold of those,
There'd be trouble for all girls and boys.

Because, it's like,
We're defending the universe,
And when I'm done my picture story,
Me and my friend will be the heroes.

Under The Table

I love being under tables,
It's another world for me,
I crawl through the curtain, into my hideout,
Like a fish under the sea,

And no one knows where I am,
So I can think of my next step,
I may jump out and yell, "surprise!",
And everyone'd be scared, I bet,

Or maybe I should start to plan an adventure,
The legs will be the branches of a tree,
And once I get through this forest,
I will call all of my friends to me,

Because it's alright,
To escape where you are sometimes.
Your brain has lots of worlds inside of it,
And they need to be explored, just like mine.

Sunday, December 04, 2011

My Inventions

This is what I want to make,
A machine that I can sit in,
And a hook that comes out when I press a button,
That feeds me chicken,

And this machine flies,
Did I mention that?
It can go up with the push of a button,
Around the world in five seconds flat.

And when I need to, it goes under water,
Because sometimes I need to go,
Visit a friend, who is also a fish,
That I met in my Space Explorer boat.

And it's alright,
If it takes a while to make,
I don't want to use imagination,
When I create.

The Super Hero

I'm a superhero,
You know from my cape,
And the special way I bend my knees,
And put my fist out and make this face,

And if I see you doing anything,
That is bad or evil,
I'll pump this fist and squint my eyes,
And shoot lightning from my knuckles,

Then I will fly right up in the sky,
Nothing can stop me because I'm made of rock,
And I have rocket feet and I'm really fast,
And my underwear matches my socks.

And I am right,
In everything that I do,
And when I'm only my secret identity,
Well, I am still right, too.

Run

When you run around,
And run and run around,
And run and run and run some more,
You're hardly ever on the ground,

You're going too fast to do anything,
Except think and think and think,
Not talk or watch or even eat,
Though, you are exercising,

And should never stop, alright?
You don't want to grow up,
Missing your feet,
For your gut.

In My Day

Way back in my day,
Before the internet,
There was no handheld computer,
Invented, yet.

The screens were as heavy as a breadmaker,
And the printers printed with ribbons and dots,
On paper that you had to tear from each other,
And that was the best that could be bought,

And movies came on big cassette tapes,
And cassette tapes played music,
And if you wanted to know anything,
Paper books are what had it.

And if that's not enough, alright,
Everything took a little more time.
And, yet, I've had no fewer thoughts than you.
I guess no one's actually improved the mind.

The Clock

What is that thing in the corner?
It's round and makes a tic,
And I've seen people very curiously,
Looking at it.

I always thought it just looked nice,
But I learned there is more to it than that.
There is something amazing to those numbers,
That those hands are pointing at.

They tell my dad to put me to sleep,
And sometimes tell mom to take me to class,
And they know how much longer,
My favorite show will last.

And it's alright,
Though I'm very curious,
I know, in time, I will understand how,
It always knows what time it is.

Easing In

When you're up in the morning,
And the power's out,
And all the batteries are drained,
And there's no internet, no doubt,

What is there that you can possibly do?
You can't ask the internet for advice.
Wait! Do you remember there are things called toys,
That once, used to entice?

And there are things that are called words,
That you can use to communicate,
With each other about things,
That your imagination creates.

So wake up, alright?
Stretch your limbs, and get ready to go,
To that part of your brain, waiting for you,
Where there live things that are not yet known.

To Figure Out Your Path

Your life, somehow, annoys me,
The way it takes the path I want.
Your fancy, lazy walk through all,
That daily haunts,

My vision of what I could have been,
And now you overlap into mine,
Making it impossible to even mimic,
All your traits that I find,

Would be the key to my own success,
If I could only figure out how,
To be you, without you not knowing.
I can't do that now.

Oh, it's alright,
Maybe I'll try doing things my way,
Though, I wish I'd have thought about this sooner,
Than, now that I'm more than half way.

The New Socialism

Until there is no money,
Printed anywhere,
And it is never seen in someone's hand,
But only travels through the air,

From the proof of our identity,
Embedded in our very skin,
As much a part of us as our sense of humor,
Or our manic compulsion,

To have what we want, easily,
Just pick it up and walk away.
Isn't that the freedom we talk about,
When we camp out for days and days?

And it's alright,
We just have to make money part of us,
And it needs to be distributed evenly,
By the new government, socialist.

The Capitalist Revolution

What's all this fuss about money?
What good did it do anyone?
The rich spend their days holding onto it,
And the rest want a revolution.

Sometimes, in moments of freedom,
I imagine imagining,
Living my life, in my present condition,
Not thinking about money,

Which is how some people do it,
Though, it catches up to you in the end,
Because banks, unenlightenedly,
Worry about dividends.

But, alright,
What should a modern revolution be?
Maybe the way to topple this system,
Is to just forget about money.

The Guilt of Success in an Unjust World

The world is always unjust,
No matter which one you're in,
If you are not satisfied with where you are,
And have no time for a revolution,

And, yet, are better off than most,
Which makes revolution difficult.
That's the challenge in the world we're in:
Most people are better off than most.

So, you're left with the guilt of success,
Or the hesitation to be all you can be,
And you would join those who are fighting these conditions,
But you don't have the energy.

Here's the truth, alright?
You can only ever do what you do best,
And, if you do, you can be guaranteed,
That you will be a good example for the rest.

Creating

Creating is a privilege,
Open to anyone,
Despite what life you may have been born into,
Regardless of your vocation,

It doesn't matter if you're not all there,
Or if you have nothing with which to build,
Or no one has encouraged you ever,
Or your entire family's been killed.

In fact, creativity is nothing,
That you can even avert,
Unless you hold your breath until you die,
Though, that's the best art I've ever heard.

And it's alright,
Your words don't have to be ornate,
Just take these ones as an example,
Of the driest way to create.

A Hundred Objects Close By

Look at what has happened,
Happiness in your eyes,
Melting into the rest of you,
Despite all the lies,

That perception hands to you,
Beauty, it cannot deny,
The only proof of truth,
And the only knife,

We welcome into ourselves,
Happy to give our life,
Over to the ecstasy,
Of the thoughtless, innocent highs,

Of existence. All is right,
You can't deny this:
That beauty can always be found,
In whatever you're amidst.

How To Make A Difference

I wish I could be everything,
I would like to be,
But this world will not allow it,
And it's not society,

As much as I would like it to be,
It's something to do with,
The physical impossibility of,
Self replication, to wit,

The power to create more time than there is,
Because no accomplishment comes without,
More than half your waking hours,
If you're really devout.

And it's alright,
If you'd rather trudge along with hundreds of dreams,
And get joy from jumping little hurdles,
That lead to nothing.

The Daily Soldier

You can't just decide,
To become a soldier,
You have to be willing to do some things,
In places that are colder,

No matter the climate,
That's not the point.
You have to steel yourself,
Against the point,

Of sympathy,
To a degree.
Have love for your brother,
And deny others dignity.

Alright, I've never been,
So, who am I to say?
I can only think of what it's like,
To divide the world that way.

Monday, November 14, 2011

The Infinite Cage

Why don't you think outside the box,
When you think about how far you've come,
And all the paths you've passed up,
And subsequent delusion,

About the options you have?
You have no less than anyone,
Who has taken chances in their life,
And tackled their vocation.

And all those ties that bind,
And responsibilities that restrict,
Your desire for a new life,
May be just the kick,

In the pants, (alright?)
That you need to decide,
That no cage is so small,
That you can't explore the inside.

When Will My Love Stop?

You could lose all your senses,
You could have no words to speak,
Your limbs could pop off,
And you could have no more teeth,

All of these things could inflict you,
And, yet, my esteem,
Would not falter a moment,
Because I've seen,

That smile that rests,
Yes, on your lips,
And suffuses your eyes,
And I love it,

But it's elsewhere, alright?
It's nowhere you'll find,
By searching any part of you,
But by looking behind.

What Do You Get?

What passes on to your children?
Is it what you say or what you do?
Or is it something intangible,
Inside of you?

Do they pull out of your essence,
Both the good and the bad,
Regardless of how close you are?
The apple doesn't fall far from dad.

No one really knows,
No matter how much evidence they dig up.
Everyone's in this world alone,
No matter their make-up.

And they're alright,
With or without their parents.
It's whether you want to be there to see,
Their inheritance.

The First From Suggestions

Silence is a wonder,
If you can find it,
Which you can, in the noisiest places,
If you listen for it,

It's in the moments when others' eyes,
Bounce away into contemplation,
Looking at the space between everything,
That eliminates the perceived distance,

Existing between each of us,
Generating conflict.
How many wars would have never been,
If we were all from the same district,

If we were all alright,
With the differences,
That allow us to see each other,
In this world of interconnectedness?

Why You Shouldn't Succeed

Things always look better,
When people convince you,
To look at them a different way,
Meant to skew,

The way you naturally think of things,
Because instinctively,
Your mind does not take into consideration,
Some presumptions that you need,

Like, don't expect that you can have everything,
That your heart calls for,
When there are people with so much less,
Why should you deserve more?

And it's alright,
I know it's a recipe for failure.
How else can fairness be ensured,
Other than to universally empower?

Going Along

Some people won't take no for an answer,
In their daily life,
And though not all of them are successful,
They are geniuses in their own right,

Defying logic, against all odds,
They know that there is no right or wrong,
When making a decision for one's own good,
You must be truthful and strong,

Or inhuman, which is really to say,
Accepting of what you are told,
There is who and what you should be,
Regardless of what your heart knows.

And it's alright,
If you are of the latter bent,
There're so many obstacles to overcome,
It's surprising everyone isn't.

Change Your Self

Change is not an option,
For anyone.
Any attempts to alter who you are,
Just creates a variation,

And confuses your self.
Is that what you want?
I have enough hardship understanding you.
It certainly won't be a jaunt,

For you to know what it is you have to do,
To finally feel one.
Come on, just sit down here and forget all,
Thoughts of evolution.

It's not for you, alright?
We were meant to stay the course,
And change the things around us,
Through kindness or through force.

Sunday, November 06, 2011

The Narcissist

I love your narcissism,
It keeps me loving you,
Not like when you were hardly there,
Even in this room,

When anything was good enough for you,
And I didn't know where you were.
I could have held you for an eternity,
And still never be sure,

That you were with me, or anywhere.
Thank god for your new self-worth.
Now I feel closer to you simply patting your back,
From the other side of the world.

And it's alright,
If you never pat mine,
I live for that moment,
And so I live all the time.

Spark

If you are reading this,
What is it you think?
Have you found yourself between the steps,
Or stepping back from the brink?

We all find ourselves,
In places we don't want to be,
Though, that is usually because of fear of moving,
Or the determination to be free.

So, at the very least, leave with this thought,
Either of yourself or reality,
That everything under the sun,
Casts a shadow on something,

That may be alright,
Or may actually not be,
I guess the point is to forever look,
Until you think that you've seen everything.

Your Fame Barometer

If you want to know anything,
You don't have far to look,
Because how you affect the world,
Is your reference book.

You will never be more kind,
Than you are to those closest to you,
And so will the world,
Treat you, too,

And if you want to know how you'd look,
To the world at large,
If it turned its eyes on you,
You don't have to look hard,

To know, alright?
Just put yourself in,
The shoes of those closest to you,
And assess the situation.

The Real You

The dangers surrounding you,
The dusts and trips and knives,
Most unknown to you, while they break down,
The building blocks of your life,

Will never destroy the charms in you,
That make me love you now and then,
And forever, no matter how the world,
Chooses to reconfigure our plans,

No matter if it changes from day to night,
And the darkness never leaves.
With you, the conditions in which I live,
Really has very little meaning.

It's you, alright?
Whether we're together or apart,
That survives the most crushing avalanche,
And shines through to my heart.

Off To Work

It doesn't matter,
How much sleep you get,
If in a day you feel that you have come,
One step closer to eliminating debt,

Until the point when you neither have,
Nor owe anything,
Which is closer to a bum on the street,
Than society's majority,

Who have less than zero but live as though,
They make twice as much as they do.
Slavery, in the modern age,
Looks an awful lot like you.

Alright, alright,
No one is whipping your feet.
But ask yourself, are you free to do what you want,
Sixty hours out of your week?

Tuesday, November 01, 2011

Ennui

The crisp mist through which you must push,
On the darkened, empty streets,
On your way to the place you'd rather,
Not meet,

In this journey you'd rather not be on,
For the regrets it piles on your mind,
For love, for money and for your heart's desires,
And for someone to be kind,

Invites you to never stop your wheels,
To never stop until you're too far away,
To honor the oaths you swore when the sun was high,
Shining on the fresh leaves, as they swayed.

Alright,
So, now, what are you going to do?
You really can just cast it all away.
It really is just about you.

Get Fit

You may be getting older,
And your body is sagging down,
Demanding more of you for what you're used to,
Unless you are proud,

Of the marks of a life not lived,
With the respect that perhaps it deserved,
For the vessel taking you,
Through this tough and unknown world.

The bulging stomach and the slower gait,
Makes you look like you are transforming,
Into another species, is that what you want,
To be your life's theming?

It's alright,
If you say, "yes, I do."
Every life is privy to one person,
And your life is privy to you.

Freedom From Money

How does one become,
An example for the world,
Contrary to the control and greed,
Into which we're all lured?

By directing our innate desire for freedom,
Away from what we've been taught,
Which is that it's obtained by obtaining money,
Something that's always sought,

And must be, because you never have,
What you need to keep,
The rate of consumption that you've been told,
You need,

To be alright,
That's not how life need be.
All you need is the right frame of mind,
To be truly free.

You're All Alone

You're feeling alone, I know,
Despite the people around you,
Because they are no longer other humans,
But just more things you have to do.

There is lacking a connection,
With someone who knows,
You and what you want out of life,
And it shows,

The stooped gait and eyes full of tears,
The chains slowing down your feet,
Making you feel like the world's moving on,
And you have no one to entreat,

To be alright,
Man, life can be a drag,
Not giving you anyway out,
Not offering you a way to be glad.

The Vermin

The fear you feel for something,
So much smaller than you,
Amidst these threats of so much greater,
Magnitude,

Belies the anxiety in your heart,
For the goals you won't admit,
For,if you could but conquer these little ones,
You would feel legitimate.

But to do so would be to change yourself,
And that's a much greater thing.
Maybe it's best to just close your eyes,
And ignore the scratching.

And it will be alright,
Once you learn to accept,
That certain things will always be with you,
As long as you are inept.

Hoard Society

You accumulate a lot of things,
As you travel through this life,
Collected without even realizing it,
Because they all look alike:

Your thoughts on issues, big and small,
Fitted into an overall scheme,
Of love or hate or exclusion,
Turning things into what they seem,

The multitude of items that you buy,
Each serving a different purpose,
Once served by many fewer tools,
Often constructed for no cost.

Now, it's alright,
You don't have to shed it all,
Just look around and see if you can count,
The ones you find integral.

Freedom

There are things you have to do,
And the question now, is 'why?'
We've lived so long under the belief of freedom,
You wonder why freedom has died.

Why have we made ourselves have to have,
Responsibilities when,
Our greatest desire is to be alone,
To persue exploration,

Into the limits of your comfort zone,
Into the pleasures of your dreams,
Where there's no right or wrong,
When you're doing what you please.

And it's alright,
I understand, somewhat,
You value the life of others so much,
They interfere with the words of your gut.

What You Be

Is there any moment,
That you are not living life,
The way you have been wont since you were a kid,
In paradise or strife?

Of course, you flourish under different,
Circumstances,
Which are the ones you should persue,
But, I bet I know which they is:

You like the times of very little,
Responsibilities,
With your means of survival taken care of,
Even when times are lean.

Which is mostly, alright.
Basically, you want to be,
The one per cent that you despise.
Welcome to reality.

Modern Revolution

With the way that we are brainwashed,
Are the days of revolution gone?
I don't mean revolutions of the mind,
I mean the violent ones.

For those who turn to violence,
When frustration makes them turn,
Away from the life they've been given,
What will they have learned,

Is the origin of a new world?
When, wouldn't it be grand,
That instead of tearing down what exists,
We all learn to understand,

That to be alright,
It doesn't matter the form of the government,
It's about the universal good intentions,
Of its constituents?

Occupy My Street

What is the real cause,
Of the problems that you're in?
Is it the structure you inherited,
Or the greed of the population?

And what's the best way to overcome,
The inequalities in your life?
Do you lead a revolution,
Or wait until the strife,

Is bursting at the seams,
So that everyone's on board,
Except, of course, the true elite,
Who have managed to hoard,

Until they're alright,
No matter what you do,
Barring showing them how to share,
Which is showing them the truth.

True Motivations

You can't change who you are,
But you can certainly know,
That how you act when you're around me,
Annoys me so.

You diametrically oppose,
Everything I ever thought,
Your average person should be in this world,
Right down to the fortunes you sought.

But this doesn't mean you are wrong,
It just means that my theory was,
That everyone is inherently good,
And goodness is why everyone does,

What isn't alright,
They're just misunderstood.
Put yourself into their shoes,
And you will see that they are really good.

The Results of Revolution

The problem with revolution,
Like the cover to the book,
Is the result's different than the means,
Like the personality to the looks,

Because the change is the easy part,
Or rather, taking off the clothes,
Though chances are the new ones that you choose,
Will be the same ones that you know.

Not to imply it's impossible,
Or even unwise to try,
But before you can find the truth,
You have to understand the lie.

Because it's not alright,
To put energy into change,
Without heart pure or thoughts of love,
The outcome should be plain.

Occupy Wall Street

Is it really possible,
To get enough for this protest?
The insidious thing about this society,
Is how busy everyone is.

Too tired to go out and show their anger,
Too tied to the life they're in,
To spare the time to occupy their own mind,
Never mind a revolution.

And deep in their hearts they bet it's a waste,
Of time to even try.
The government has the pretend power,
And it has different fish to fry:

Like how to spin this, alright?
So that they can seem like they're for the poor,
While honoring the money from the people with power,
That all this ado is for.

The Joy You Seek

You know you are doing something,
That you were meant to do,
When the world rearranges itself,
To put closer to you,

The people and tools that you need,
To do it very well,
And figure out new ways,
Of being more industrial.

And then people wonder why we do anything,
If not for the carrot of money.
We're disconnected from true motivation,
Which is rooted in creativity.

And it's alright,
If it takes a while to find,
Just the belief that it is somewhere,
Could just yet save humankind.

The Secret To A Long Life

Time can really fly,
When you're having fun,
Which is why you should be searching for,
Your vocation,

Because it pains me to watch you drag on,
And to have you around,
Obviously not enjoying your life,
And extending, anyhow,

For wouldn't you rather breeze through, without a care,
And have it be over before you know it?
Well, maybe that's the point, you are afraid,
Of your death,

Which is alright.
That's one way, I guess,
Of extending your time here on earth:
Drag it out by making it wretched.

Go Ahead And Read

If you read these words,
As much as me,
You would be in an elite class,
Of narcissisicity.

Of course, no one quite gets you,
As much as you do,
Knowing exactly how you'd express yourself,
Other than those who,

Are always talking,
About things that they see,
And how they feel about them,
Like yours truly.

But, it's alright,
If you'd rather go to another source,
And get an imperfect story of your life,
From the mouth of another horse.

As Long As You're Around

If you could control me,
With your brain waves,
I would be the happiest,
If I became your slave.

Or would you send me off into the world,
To manage on my own,
Monitoring my moves as I go,
And interfering when I roam?

Or would you even care enough to know,
Where I'm even at?
Just show me a modicum of attention,
And I will be glad.

And it's alright,
If you want to leave me lying down,
Motionless in your possession.
As long as you're around.

Chasing Love

Just because you've not done one thing,
For the entirety of your life,
Does not mean you haven't followed what,
Takes you to the height,

Of joy, for it's not true,
That your love must be one-
It's a myth of our society,
That one has a vocation,

Unless you think of it not,
As a specific career choice,
But the choices you make that,
Give you an honest voice,

Which makes you alright,
Not like those who chase,
The money to give them the time,
To pursue the love they miss.

What You Love

When you are outside of your element,
But someplace you like to be,
You may have discovered the secret,
To making you happy,

Like an explorer without the,
Brutality,
You embrace all of the beauty,
You see,

And like a parent without the,
Loveless expectations of fame,
You grow with your knowledge of this new life,
Forever fresh and never tamed.

And it's alright,
If the opportunity comes and goes,
You're lucky to have it even once,
To understand all life has to show.

Jobs

There is certainly greatness,
In doing what you love,
And doing it really, really, really well,
And so, rising above,

What it is to what it could be.
Isn't that what everyone dreams?
Isn't that the goal for everyone,
For every ideal society?

This celebration of a life well-led,
Because it was a life led despite the trends,
May be the seed of thought that we all need,
To finally know what we want, in the end.

And it's alright,
That it's a long, long way away.
So were the things that he eventually made,
That are commonplace today.

Chomsky's Society

You can't just remove the veil,
That shows you the world,
As it is shown to you by society,
For that would be cruel,

Because there is nothing you can do,
Without the unveiling of those,
Billions others living with you,
And no one wants to know,

The way history is painted for us,
To maintain the status quo,
Emerson was right,
To say that history shouldn't be known,

To be alright,
And live how you were born to live,
Not following the rules of the past,
But finding joy in what you have to give.

The Manufacture of Consent

There is no denying,
That everything you know,
Is either something you learn from experience,
Or from what you've been told,

And when the former is the case,
You can use it as a guide,
Against the latter, which is also born,
Of the same lies:

That the world you're given is what there is,
With no intentions behind,
Not born of an unseen, powerful hand,
That is also benign.

Ugh, it's not alright,
That it's a winding road to the truth,
That must be taken every time you want,
To remind yourself of the true you.

Pascal's View

It really is overwhelming,
If you stop to think about,
The life you're in and the lives you've seen,
And the capabilities that you doubt,

You have to enter into any of them,
As well as anybody else,
And think about the dreams that've come and gone,
That you've had about yourself.

Think about the countless leaves that have fallen,
Each, a life in itself.
It doesn't matter that you don't understand them.
You don't understand yourself.

It's alright,
When you think about the size of you,
Within the context of who you wish you were.
That is just something that all humans do.

My Ride

There are so many words being written,
About you, right now,
Though, no one knows that they are doing it,
Because they can't imagine how,

Someone could exist with everything,
In the world within them at once.
But I know that you are so complete,
You are the world, and then some,

You are life itself, just like a cocoon,
Forever reinventing,
Freeing my mind amidst the daily grind,
And life's responsibilities.

And it's alright,
That you outdo everything.
You're my ride in this crazy world,
And that doesn't really intimidate me.

Work for Change

Speaking out about what,
You feel is unjust,
Should not be measured by what you know,
When you've had enough,

Of the situation at hand,
Because, even if things are not as they seem,
They're being represented in a poor light,
To, at least, one human being,

Nor should you be afraid to say something,
Simply because of where you work,
Though each of these points is unrealistic,
If you live in this world.

So, to be alright,
With the way things are done,
Try to be as silent as possible,
And avoid revolution.

Leaders' Debate

The trick is to respond to questions,
Without a reference to what was asked,
While sticking to the topic at hand,
As you were tasked,

But knowing exactly what you want to say,
Even before you arrive on the scene.
The trick is not to explore a topic,
But to navigate a dream,

That will never touch reality,
For, that is a dream's nature.
There are words and then there are actions,
Again, not related, for sure.

And that's alright,
It's a reflection of society.
Do you say what there is or what you want?
Do you want what you want or what you see?

Doing What You Want

If at first you don't succeed,
You have a choice to make:
Try, try again,
Or reevaluate,

What it is you're trying to do,
Because it just might not be,
Suited to who you are,
Or your capacity,

And if you know you still want to,
Do it, no matter what,
Just make sure you can survive in this world,
Without that notch,

Because, though it would be alright,
If we could be what we want to be,
That's sometimes not an option,
In this economic reality.

Eden

Is history the best judge,
Of how things will one day be,
If we do something that's been done before?
That's an insult to humanity,

Because we all strive to improve ourselves,
And the things we do,
Learning from mistakes we have made,
And coming up with new,

Ways to do things to finally acheive,
What we've always desired:
Peace and comfort and time to play,
At the things that raise us higher,

And define our right,
To be who we want to be,
Independent of any need,
To make money.

What You Tried

You've tried working for others,
Who do things just for love,
For hardly any return,
You could monetarily think of,

And then you went to the man,
Who was generous, within his means,
Which did not include spare time,
Or money, when things were lean,

And then there was the government,
Which demanded you close your mind,
Lest you really start to ponder,
What your concience might find.

And now you're alright,
Doing what you love to do,
And you have cash and time and pride,
Which is all-deserving to you.

Bastiat 1848

The premise that people are selfish,
And take from others to relieve themselves,
And so Government will never work,
Reveals a lack of mental health,

And the notion that what people want,
Is less tax for more service,
Belies the experience of northern states,
That the UN rates as top of the list,

And the thought that not by pooling what we have,
We can get anywhere as a human race,
Makes my heart bleed for the inevitable ones,
Who naturally can't keep up the pace,

Needed to be alright,
Regardless of the system in which we live.
There will always be haves and have-nots,
With some to receive and some to give.

Thursday, September 22, 2011

What You Believe

I know that you don't believe,
In the notion that,
All these things that are happening,
That are bad,

That are thwarting all your plans,
And hurting you and your clan,
Might be the work of a higher force,
And may actually end up grand,

Because you don't believe in anything,
That you cannot see and test against,
Which is a legitimate stance to take,
But no saner than rejecting all sense,

Because we're all alright,
Based on what we expect from this life,
But if you see only one path to your goals,
You can only expect strife.

World Affairs

Life just keeps on moving,
No matter who you are,
Or think you are. There's really no difference,
That I've seen, so far.

And the blessings and curses,
Distributed around,
Really have no rhyme or reason,
But that doesn't change how,

You greet them, for that has bearing,
On your life's next turn-
Not really in where it goes,
But in the lessons learned,

That you're really alright,
No matter the circumstance,
Unless you're oppressed beyond belief,
Of which, there is a good chance.

Tuesday, September 20, 2011

The Same Old Pattern

When you're done with it all,
And need to move on,
And deny there's any relation,
Between reality and perception,

Now you're ready for change,
As if that will ever come,
When your goal is to be somewhere else,
You don't have a destination,

And will ultimately fall back,
Into the routine that you left:
The pain, the dissatisfaction,
And being generally bereft.

And that's alright,
Join the club.
This is humanity's,
Primary hub.

Lighting the Spark

How do you eat an elephant?
One bite at a time,
Though, the question still remains,
First the head, or the behind?

And there in a nutshell,
Is the main obstacle,
To some of the greatest works,
Never heard.

Of course, there is no room for all,
The infinite jewels there could be,
Like the alchemist's dream,
It would strip gold of all meaning.

So, it's alright,
To be discouraged at the first bump.
If everyone followed their dreams,
Reality would be our new cup.

True Empathy

A life is very special,
It's hard to describe,
So others truly get the feeling that,
It's their own life,

And recognize that we're all the same,
Just different in every way.
If I had that power,
You know what I'd say:

"Come one, come all,
It's just a matter of time,
Before my powers are made known to you,
And all your money is mine!"

And it's alright,
If that day never comes.
It's enough to know the road to gold,
To get gold from everyone.

Moving On

It's really quite amazing,
When you stop to think about it,
How everything coordinates,
Not to be confounded,

Like the wind through the trees,
Both being abated and helping out,
Spreading seeds and moving water,
Each molecule, on its own route,

And destination,
For they're all doing their own thing,
Because to make any move at all,
You need something,

Telling you, you'll be alright,
If you just do that,
And we are all given our own,
Motivational talk.

Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Looking for Opportunities

If you just let things happen,
You won't be doing things differently,
Because they're going to happen, anyway.
You can't fight reality.

But, if you notice everything,
Happening to you or someone else,
You may have a better chance at understanding,
How to take care of yourself,

Which involves noting opportunities,
As they come into view,
And embracing them immediately,
'Cause you have nothing to lose.

'Cause to be alright,
You need to be alright with yourself,
And that means knowing you did everything,
To maintain your mental health.

Tuesday, September 13, 2011

Sincerity

There are many, many ways,
To say that you don't want,
To do something, because there's many ways,
To misrepresent what,

You really feel, in order not to face,
The truth in front of someone,
With many results, all the intended to be,
No confrontation.

But you forget, the most interesting,
Route is the most sincere.
Productive conversation can only begin,
When begun without fear,

Of the other not being alright,
With being told the truth,
Which is an absurd proposition,
So much so that it hurts.

Monday, September 12, 2011

Maintaining Awe

How do you want to improve?
Do you want to use some facts,
Collected by others and yourself,
So you can react,

To the comparisons that come out,
Because that is all there is?
How else can you know where you're at,
Without some orientation?

And once you've succeeded in seeing yourself,
Amidst the garden of flowers in which you live,
Will you know where you want to go,
Or will you be happy with where you exist?

All questions, alright,
Because that is all there is.
It's when you start to answer them,
That you cease to be curious.

Sunday, September 11, 2011

Change for the Better

When do you know you've changed?
What are the facts that point it out?
Who can know you so well to know, too?
Why do you even doubt,

That change is something that you need?
It's what everybody wants.
No one is truly happy,
Or it'd infect the whole rotten lot,

And would sweep the world, like some kind of cult,
And followers would rise up fast,
Though, not themselves able to truly match,
The same life-changing act.

So, you're alright,
Where you are, or where you go,
And you don't have to think about whether you've changed,
When you do, you will just know.

Happily Hit Upon Phrase

Where will you find the sweet spot,
Where all the things you say,
Aligns perfectly with you and them,
In each and every way,

Without any of you having to change,
Your thoughts in any way,
Only your actions, which will seem as natural,
As when you kicked the homeless away,

As when he wasted his life in the service of those,
Who will take advantage of him one day?
When will you agree because your words are arranged,
In just the right way?

It will all be right,
When you hit upon that happy day,
When we all put our weapons down,
And finally get to play.

Thursday, September 08, 2011

Human Nature

It may just take a tweak,
To get things back on track,
Especially if you consider,
What others lack,

Which is time in their lives,
Whether real or imagined,
Whether under tyrant,
Or market engines,

There are a lot of demands,
From everyone around,
Because everyone around,
Wants their pound.

That's right,
Human Nature is such,
That we're all selfish,
When push comes to shove.

Wednesday, September 07, 2011

Fulfilling Yourself

What could you be thinking,
Screaming out so loud,
In a place where no one can hear you,
And then complaining, you're not found out?

With winter coming, you would think that the thought,
Of snow and sleet and bone-chilling cold,
Would have you thinking about important things,
Like succeeding before you get too old,

Like finding your voice before your voice goes,
And no one learns about the thoughts in your mind,
That without some kind of advertisement,
Is just simply impossible to find.

No, it's alright,
Forget I told you anything.
How you are's exactly how nature,
Told you to be.

Tuesday, September 06, 2011

Why Do It?

Why do you do it,
Amidst all those people,
doing the same thing,
With so much to see to,

That they don't have time to care,
About anyone else,
Just like you have no time, too,
But yourself.

Is it because you hope,
That they will all finally see,
That what you've done's unique,
Which, in this world, is key,

And what makes you alright,
In everyone's eyes,
'Cause it shows you may know something,
Beyond out skies.

Monday, September 05, 2011

Just Do it

Nothing really happens,
You can think of things that way,
And so, nothing you do has consequences,
That touch reality,

And nothing you do should inspire guilt,
Because nothing is quite real,
Except within this dream you're having,
And the emotions that you feel.

And if you find that you're starting to get,
Pangs of regret for what you've done,
And people around you are avoiding you,
It's time for a transition,

To being alright,
By abandoning all you know.
Don't worry, the struggles you'll have rebuilding,
Aren't really real, you know.

Saturday, September 03, 2011

You're On

When you're being watched,
And you know it,
You tend to be self-conscious,
And act different.

But then you're not only lying,
You're wasting your time,
Being someone who you are not.
But, I'm sure you don't mind.

For how else can you be known to others?
Are you seeing the consequence,
Of living for and among others,
Instead of among friends?

Oh, it's alright,
The problem's all really yours.
Just know yourself and what you want to do.
That's what life is for.

Friday, September 02, 2011

What Are You Going To Do?

If you want changes,
Don't look at me,
That requires some kind of effort,
Internally.

And it's hard, I know,
When reality is structured this way,
Thrusting you into an unknown world,
That does not shed a ray,

Of light on why we're here at all,
So we must create our own meaning.
But now you can jump into life,
Now that you know what everyone's feeling,

Which is not alright,
They're anxious, too,
Not sure if they're where they should be,
But not knowing what to do.

Milestone - 1,500

Well, this is quite a milestone,
Though you may not agree,
For any accomplishment is based upon,
A random degree,

Plucked out of the air like the theory,
Of relativity.
Just change the way that you look at things,
And you will quickly see,

All of your trophies disappear,
As if you've jumped to a different reality,
Which you do every moment of your life,
Though it's not obvious immediately,

Because time's too quick, right?
A moment's hard to isolate,
And then to step back and observe it,
Well, that sounds just half-baked.

To Mistake is People

You can never truly appreciate,
The importance of a task,
If you have not also failed in it,
Which begs you to ask,

'How can anything get done,
perfectly,
If, to do anything well,
It must first be done insufficiently?'

So, first you must let go of,
The desire for the ideal,
If the world were ever to run without a flaw,
There would be no people.

So, it's alright,
Go ahead and make a mistake,
You'll only be a better person for it.
And, really, how much effort does that take?

Monday, August 29, 2011

The Help You Have

You are just too beautiful,
To be handled in this way.
If you are to succeed the way you want,
You must have time to play,

You must open that part of you that wants,
Closeness in an intimate way,
So all the stresses eating up your soul,
Can be kept at bay,

So your mind can forget all,
The things the world may,
Hoist upon you in the next minute,
Because you haven't yet finished the day.

And it's alright,
If you need a hand in all this,
I am here and gazing at your face,
Thanking the gods that you exist.

The Child

If you protect something too much,
To keep prying eyes from it,
To protect its virginity,
You just may smother it.

But there is a risk in letting it breathe,
The same air in which you navigate,
The air of hurricanes and backed up sewers,
Jealousy and hate.

So, who do you share this child with,
Filled with the potential of all you are?
Just like we are bad at predicting the weather,
You need your instincts to be your bar.

And you'll know the babe will be all right,
And here's something you didn't think about,
When you let this one see the light of day,
There may be another ready to come out.

Friday, August 26, 2011

Live Liberally

There is lots to do,
No matter who you are,
In this life where life's not guaranteed,
And you have a desire to go far,

Whether that means excelling in what you love,
Or helping humanity,
Not that those things are mutually exclusive,
And if they're not, then you're lucky,

Except that it probably will mean,
That you won't make much for your bank account,
For society lauds you when you better the world,
But stops short of paying any amount,

To make you alright,
Even though they say that's for the best,
In this world of everyone for themselves,
You need to take care of your own nest.

Out With The Truth

What does it really matter,
What you think of me,
When our interaction, up to this point,
Has been superficially,

Built of nods and assumptions,
That we will maintain this formality,
Benefiting peace and calm,
And demanded by society?

But that is done now, isn't it?
We've laid aside courtesies,
For circumstances have allowed us,
To bask in brutal honesty,

Until it's alright,
Until we both agree,
We're both human,
And agree to disagree.

How To Be Yourself

When you want something so badly,
You are sure to fuck it up,
Because you try to be something,
You, simply, are not,

Because in this world the possibilities,
Of what you can be are infinite,
And when something is at stake,
It doesn't seem enough, does it?

But there is one combination,
Of all of your potential,
If happily hit,
Will deliver all that's possible,

And that's just you, alright?
I'm not being gushy.
It's hard to be natural,
And Mother Nature is fussy.

Your Mind's Influence

It doesn't matter what you think,
About the causes of those things,
In your life that are both good and bad,
For that doesn't change anything.

You know when you think a certain way,
You attract forces to you,
Either through some spiritual magnetism,
Or the influence of a slew,

Of people around you,
For attitude translates,
Into a change of mood in others.
What you think's what you create.

So it's alright,
Go ahead and forsake god,
He doesn't demand how you should act,
He only controls a lot.

Gaining Success Through Charisma

The busier you make yourself,
The more lives you touch,
As long as what you're doing is reaching out,
And not in, too much.

Things happening is something that,
Requires collaboration,
With others that want to do the same thing,
For their own intentions,

And that's the best you can hope for,
Because no one is selfless,
Except in-so-far as,
Helping helps themselves.

So, to be alright,
That's if you want success,
Go out into the world,
And practice connectiveness.

Let Go

Nothing's ever happened,
That no one knows about,
Or it never would have been an event,
And that's what guilt is all about:

Holding onto something, even though,
The circumstances really could be,
Lost in the universe's inaccessible,
Primordial sea.

So, go on and let your past haunt you,
You're the only one who sees that ghost,
Though, that doesn't really matter,
'Cause you're the one he wants to haunt most.

So, be alright,
With the decision you make,
And know that all the things you hold on to,
Are in your hands, for christ's sake.

Democracy At Work

When a leader represents,
Something you don't like,
But is still the person in charge,
Of the societal parts of your life,

And he only has a couple years,
To do what he is able to,
Before he's held accountable again,
Here is what you do:

Talk to others and read about,
The types of leadership you might like,
And start to tell others once you've made a choice,
What's best for your life,

And it's alright,
If you want to start to canvass,
That's everyone's right in a democracy,
To change others' opinions.

Muerte a la Revolución!

Do we need government?
I'm starting to wonder.
For don't corporations run the world anyway,
So that government's just a part,

Of the illusion that we have power?
But where does the power lie?
I'd like to say in the hands of the people,
But I'm not that type of guy.

I'm the type of guy to think that someone,
Somewhere has the type of juice,
That allows him to do anything that he wants,
Regardless of who he might abuse.

But it's alright,
I've got less problems than most,
Not living in a Corporate Democracy,
So I raise my glass to all with a toast.

Losing It

Can it all change,
With the flip of a coin?
Life offers so many options at every moment,
It's hard to keep going,

Without choosing one bad path,
Or at least one that sends you down.
But because there are always already more choices again,
You can always come back around,

Or explore, which doesn't offer stability,
But opportunities, for sure.
But, can you break the bonds you've made,
As you've gotten this far?

And it's not alright,
Just to be crazy,
You have to be unpredictable,
And envied.

Complicated or Simple

You are either someone,
Who thinks with her heart,
And must keep in mind every factor,
And every part,

That may have a feeling about what she does,
Or thinks with her mind,
And doesn't have to keep,
Track of every fact she finds,

And remember facts so that,
You can know who to trust,
Rather than assume the best of all,
And react off the cuff,

To those, not alright,
Who are actually assholes.
Which one are you?
Just so I know.

What You Want

What are you capable of?
That's not really the question.
Try asking what are you allowed to do,
And try to stay out of depression,

Because time is precious,
Not because life is short,
But because most of it is taken with working,
On something you'd rather abort,

For an interest purely undefined,
And led by your own desires.
But, money does not allow this kind of whim,
For who else will manufacture these tires?

And it's alright,
You're not alone in this boat,
And if we all were just honest with ourselves,
This world would have no hope.

Missed RSVPs

There are two things you can do,
That you may never forgive of yourself,
One, missing a friend's important event,
Two, killing someone else,

For there is nothing to do in either,
Once the deed is done.
Time's served regardless of the guilt,
And you have offended someone.

So manage your calendar correctly,
And keep your violence in check,
To avoid having to rectify your actions,
And having a lifetime of regret.

Though it will be all right,
With time and distance,
Like a scar that reminds, but no longer hurts,
It'll be a reminder of your penance.

The Revolution

You have an idea,
That the system is not right,
And have one to replace it that is better,
So, it's revolution time,

And in order to ensure that what you've got,
Exactly matches what you imagine,
Away must go the parts that cannot be changed:
Policies, laws and humans.

And once you're done, you better hope,
Who's left understands your goal,
Not to imply there's loopholes in your plan,
But there're people who'll still be digging for gold,

The easy way, alright?
Because greed doesn't grow out of a specific system,
Like generosity, it can be found,
In any human.

Those You Trust

When you can see that someone's lying,
About what they think of you,
Like when you told me that I am brave,
What is the best thing to do?

Do you confront them because it may be,
They will explain their point of view,
And tell you (maybe lie) that what you saw,
Is simply not true?

Or is your body telling you something else,
That, maybe, you should be finding someone new,
Because, if you are reading this in them,
How do you expect to get through,

Alright?
You need to trust the people in your life,
And why you don't's immaterial,
Because you still have to sleep at night.

Are You Boring?

Are you just boring?
You'll have to ask yourself,
If when you meet someone for the first time,
Do you talk about your health?

Do you comment on the weather,
And try hard not to offend?
Do you assume a tone of camaraderie,
Or that time is needed to make a friend?

When they say something really outrageous,
Do you act like that's never been said before?
Or go right along and match their wits,
Not making you a bore?

And it's alright,
If you answered yes to any of these.
Dynamic people are entertaining,
But that's not all that this world needs.

Change, Please

There is no idea too big,
For this world to hold.
Well, it may change the world,
So, it is too big, all told.

But, what doesn't change the world?
Doesn't the day I met you,
Still revisit my mind,
When before all I could do,

Was wonder about if there was,
Someone so unlike me,
That there would be proof that I exist,
Just in her being seen.

And that's life, alright?
Changing and searching, non-stop,
And if you never thirst for either,
You will never be on top.

Vindication

The same thing you've done,
That sometimes makes you cringe,
Really looks smart,
When they start that bullshit, again,

And make you wish,
That you never were there,
And suddenly, when you least expect it,
Everyone's aware,

Of what was once a cry for help,
Some things can only be considered that,
Until how you did it becomes the mode,
That everyone reenacts.

So, it's alright,
When you smack your forehead with your hand,
It just shows that your filled with passion,
And are invested.

How to Commemorate

Once you start brainstorming,
You have to know when to stop,
Or you may leave your first intent,
Or plan something over and above,

What is actually possible.
This is not rare.
If everything thought was actually made,
There'd be no room up in here,

And you don't want to live just in your mind,
Even though that may be all there is,
Because within it there's still this division,
Between fantasy and existence.

And it's alright,
If that's alright for you.
Some people are happy thinking of projects,
While not wanting anything to do.

Your Talent

People come and people go,
That's just the way it is,
Some leave of their own accord,
Because they can't stand the status,

Of your relationship,
While some just make you go,
With violence and a smile,
They weren't brought up right, you know.

When you show up,
People just want to leave,
The world they live in,
Because you fill their need,

To be alright,
To be fulfilled,
To feel free and yet owned,
Alive and killed.

Living With You

Everything passes,
And as they pass, they change,
Like the light that shines on your body,
As our life together is rearranged,

With each step that we take,
Within our own,
Until we reconnect,
And acknowledge how each has grown,

Or, not caught up,
With what the world demands.
If I had a penny for each time I've looked around,
And I'm in a new land,

In which I'm not all right,
I'm the odd one out,
And need to come back to you,
To figure it all out.

Wednesday, August 03, 2011

What To Do Next

Just as the exact space,
You will fill as you head,
Into this world,
New and naked,

So is each step you take,
Like sparks from a fire,
Bright for a time,
As intense as dire.

And how else can you live,
You who are so bored, so fast,
Forever thinking about what you could have been,
Or were, but couldn't last?

It's alright,
You never have more time left than you do,
You're always about to die,
And live, too.

How To Make It

Here's a way to do it:
Pretend that you're not,
Then when people wonder where you came from,
It all just seems like luck,

Like you didn't think long and hard,
About what you wanted to say,
As if it just all pours out of your mouth.
You better be ready for future days.

As if when you get out of bed,
It's a party day and night,
Which, eventually, it could be,
Once retirement's in sight.

And it's all right,
What people say,
Thinking about something, does make it happen,
With some sweat, by the way.

Self-Reliance

What's the measure of someone?
Is it that they know what they want,
Even if they lack the confidence,
And try to be a sycophant,

Exerting all of their energy,
Not knowing what they're doing?
Oh, why can't we all just be who we are,
And enjoy just living?

And why must others demand your time,
When, as we know, time is so precious?
When so little's given each one of us,
To discern kindred spirits from tyrants.

Oh, and is it alright,
When you've decided to live your joy,
To then not have the energy?
Oh, how life chooses to annoy.

The Unpredictable

When it is all over,
What will people say,
About the life you lived,
And the choices you made?

Will they say every step,
You took, they could have called,
Based on the obviousness of who you are,
And your remedial,

Understanding of yourself?
Do you really think,
That living per a standard,
Necessitates an obvious link,

To being alright?
Life shouldn't be a dream.
Ups and downs should be brought on by you,
Not by the whims of the stream.

The World As We Know It

You are never in,
The life that you're in,
For it is only ever the projection,
Of your imagination,

And when you want to get out of it,
Well, that's a conundrum,
'Cause there is nowhere to actually go,
That isn't still an illusion,

Unless you create another one,
Within the one you've been constructin',
Except, rather than having a structure,
It's at your brain's whim,

Which is alright,
If you don't want to live,
But if pain isn't that repugnant to you,
Then life's your only alternative.

How To Undress

How do you take your clothes off,
Do you think of what comes first,
And do you turn just so,
So as not to show your curse?

Do you wish you had worn something else,
Beneath your denim jeans?
And as you do this, are you really,
As sexy as you seem?

Will you be the same person,
Once everything is off,
Or will you be more truly you,
Or not as soft?

Will it be alright,
If I say something untoward,
Or will you put it all back on,
If I say one more word?

Tuesday, July 26, 2011

Self-Help

I think I finally got it,
People do not want to know,
What they already know,
They just want to go,

With their minds to things,
That make them happy and giggle,
Because the point is to be happy,
So don't waist time to figure,

How to get there, you already are,
If you just pop up the sides of your mouth.
Don't worry if it's superficial,
You can muscle the sadness out.

And it's alright,
If it does not last,
Nothing does,
And you can always relapse.

Reconciling the Fissure

What will you become,
In the fissure between,
Who you are to the world,
And what you want to be,

When you have so much responsibility,
You feel towards how its run,
While still needing to maintain,
Your own situation,

When you're handed the laws by which,
You must live to survive,
As truly human,
And worthy of hire?

Are you alright?
Are there too many restraints,
Keeping you from being,
What everyone says you ain't?

Saturday, July 23, 2011

Raise Yourself

when you have young children,
As we all do, in our hearts,
You must forego all other tasks,
Until you've done your part,

To nurture them and show them,
That they are the most important thing,
In you're life, not to spoil them,
But to give them dignity,

And self-worth, for you've only one chance,
Because, mark my word,
They will grow and either nurture you,
Or throw you to the curb,

Which is alright,
If all you care about is yourself,
But if you want to pass on love and peace,
Shower it on someone else.

What Do You See?

If you're looking on the horizon,
What do you see?
Is your mind filled with thoughts of its beauty,
Or possibilities?

Both views hold potential,
For the education of humankind,
Through verse or exploration,
Still, yet, undefined,

Like the source of the colors,
Whether refraction or God,
You will have ears to listen,
If truth is your guide.

But you won't be alright,
If you wish to touch others,
And leave it all inside,
Because you don't see what you offer.

Defying Poetry

A poem need not be,
An investigation of the self,
Through a moment plucked out of time,
In words chosen to delve,

Into a world opaque to most,
Though there is a place for these.
But what about the broad strokes,
And universalities,

That show most, easily,
That we are all connected,
By a question that's defied,
All who've contended?

So, it's alright,
Go ahead and try to grasp,
That Space within us all,
With a poetical hand.

Away From The Storm

The wind was blowing branches,
Right off of their trees,
Stages fell and canoes flew,
All without much warning,

And I stood out there for a brief moment,
To feel the wind on my face,
Which was glorious, until I thought,
About my current place,

Of responsibility that I have,
To my family.
I can't stand out among the lightning,
Because it's not just me,

It's others, now, alright?
I'm not just myself,
And it takes a little twist of thought,
To keep that off the shelf.

How To Get Ahead

Just keep on trucking,
'Cause if you don't, you're liable to find,
That when you get to where you finally end up,
You've been left behind,

By all of those that you admired,
But didn't understand why,
Until you're standing on the roadside,
Watching them all drive by,

'Cause they have gas and they have direction,
And they had the foresight,
To know that you can't stay in one place forever,
And you can't always hitch a ride.

So, it's alright,
If you're not as far as you thought you'd be,
As long as where that exactly is,
Is also haunting your dreams.

The Next Stage

Sometimes you have to wonder,
What is out there for you,
When all you have is what you have,
With nothing to do,

With nothing that saves you from the precipice,
Of going just a little too far,
And sticking out your neck a little too much,
So that people see who you are,

And offer you the ability,
To change everything around you,
Again and again and again, again,
Until there is nothing new,

Only alright,
Because consistency breeds ennui,
And nothing bores you more than constant change,
And uncertainty.

Monday, July 04, 2011

When You're Dead

You don't have to worry,
About what you have done,
Because every action is infitismal,
Compared to the eons,

Of time that's past since it's been measured,
Though, when you think of it,
There are a few whose memories live on,
Because of what they did,

And if you believe that spirit is,
What people remember you as,
Then, if you want to exist forever,
Then you have to surpass,

Being alright,
And be phenominal,
And try to have some identity,
And morals.

The Anger Inside

Yes, you can have anger,
With no way to hold it back,
Even if you know that it's coming,
Because of something that you lack,

Which could be patience, or foresight,
Or even the ability,
To deal with what you deal with everyday.
It's your personaility.

And when you wonder if it will end,
Or you can be cured,
You don't actually want to change yourself,
You want to change the world.

Alright, alright,
Forget about your frown,
And what to do about it.
Turn the world upside down!

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Okay

Do you need your voice?
What is it used for?
And does it have to come from your mouth,
To express the core,

Of what it is you need to express,
To accentuate your life,
And understand your deepest desires,
And discerning wife.

Situate yourself on sturdy ground,
And scream out your greatest delight,
Until you forget all of your troubles,
And disintegrate into light.

So you're alright,
Right? We're cool?
It doesn't matter, anyway,
If I'm your mentor or a fool.

Tuesday, June 28, 2011

Unfounded Accusations

There is nothing stopping you,
From doing what you'd like,
Until someone decides to stop you,
From doing what you like,

Because there are somethings you should not do,
Like hurt anyone,
Or incite others to do the same,
Or engage in elucidation,

On the rights of everyone,
To do what they'd like,
That doesn't hurt anyone else,
'Cause then there'd need to be more might,

To stop that freedom, alright?
Because there's more at stake here,
Than just your right to experience life.
There's the corporations that you hold so dear.

Monday, June 27, 2011

Being True

There are some things that are expected,
Not because you are oppressed,
By the society in which you live,
Demanding you desist,

From activities that threaten,
Its way of of life,
Or because you've alreadydonee something,
To warrant restricting your rights,

But because, if you want some sort,
Of predictability,
Of how your loved ones will act towords you,
You need to have some stability,

And show that you're alright,
And trustworthy,
Not to do what would be a betrayal,
Of their loyalty.

Saturday, June 25, 2011

Changes

When you really want to change,
You never will,
Because you don't know who you are, yet,
And need to interfere,

With the way you choose to see the world,
As your own, and not someone else's,
And you have complete control,
No matter what society says.

Sure, you may be on a train,
That you hope stays on the tracks,
But what you do and where you look,
Is not a matter of chance.

Then it will be alright,
You'll finally get it right,
And know it's not about changing yourself.
Then you'll see the light.

Tuesday, June 21, 2011

Living

Yes, you can do it!
The world was made for that.
If you don't, who will?
Many are lost on that fact.

And no one will do it quite,
The way that you do,
And all these things just become,
An extension of you,

Inflating you,
So you are visible by more,
And ensuring life after death,
Thanks to the responsibility you bore,

Ensuring you're alright,
By showing everyone,
That self-expression's not that hard,
And your perspective's as important as anyone's.

Monday, June 20, 2011

Expressions

It's always a feeling,
You're trying to capture,
Whether writing poetry,
Or a lecture,

And for some the one is easier,
Than the other,
I wish mine was not to just stare,
And lamely stutter,

And that your's was less abrasive,
And he had more truth to offer.
My feelings are not complicated,
But, I feel, much stronger,

Than makes anyone all right.
I get it from my father,
Extremely good intentions,
With no explanation to offer.

The Morning's Gone

You'll never know how much,
The love from me burns on,
The street is narrow, and the house is hit,
But I don't have concerns on,

The dangers waiting, but not guaranteed,
A flood's not a flood until it's here,
And I haven't hurt you 'til you feel the pain,
And I don't live by fear.

So don't drag and push me, please,
I'll go where I want,
But if it makes you sad, I'll go,
Or maybe I won't,

Because time passes, alright,
Before you know it, you find,
Everyone's gotten where they set out to go,
And left you behind.

While You Sleep

Instead of finishing first,
You can always try to start,
And understand the problem,
As if it's made of parts,

That are connected, instead of,
Jumping to conclusions.
Did you know that the world began,
After milleniums of confusion?

Oh, what's the use, when all there is is pain?
Well, let's try to answer that,
With some rest and a silent mind,
Until you realise the fact,

That you're alright,
Even the pain is a joy,
And no realization's possible,
Without this waking annoy-ance.

New Directions

Yes, things can change,
Don't let anyone tell you not.
People turn and pucks bounce,
And festering issues rot,

And bitterness grows,
Larger than your body can take,
While those around you quickly turn their backs,
'Cause they have better deals to make,

And better things to do,
Than spend time around you.
Things can change, like a tsunami,
Swaps the spots of cars and sloops.

But, it's alright,
Change doesn't have to be bad.
Floods can wash away a lot of dirt,
And you get new perspectives from being sad.

Protect Yourself

You never know where life will lead you,
You never really know,
Or what people are thinking,
No matter what they show,

And though you can't judge a book by its cover,
Its cover, you can surely judge,
And when that's all you have to judge by,
Surround yourself with those you love,

And, when that's all you have,
To protect yourself from content,
Collect as many as you can,
To minimize each's affect,

On you being alright,
Because you will find,
When one opens itself up to you as your enemy,
The rest will have your behind.

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Again, With The Deception

For all of the talk you produce,
That inspires other people,
Into believing there is something to you,
That is reasonable,

Like the rising sun,
You are predictable,
And like the rising sun again,
If you stopped, so would the world,

And of the latest,
In your arsenal,
Whatever happens, you can be sure,
Even more enemies will knock on your door,

You're an ass, alright,
And insane, to boot,
Unproductive, and a con artist,
Waiting to steal all the loot.

Monday, June 13, 2011

Your Self Rules

If you think that all those around you,
Are concerned for your abilities,
Then they either are, or you must change where you are,
Anyway,

For nothing they can do can assure you otherwise,
Unless they change who they are,
And by that I mean their face and names,
For you to start feeling sure,

Of just yourself and no one else,
Because that's the key,
To success. It's nothing to do with them,
And everything to do with me.

So, it's alright,
To run away from circumstances,
If you are running to some other kind,
That staisfies your confidence.

Tuesday, June 07, 2011

Get There

Be honest with others,
At the moment you think,
Of something that could be a problem,
Or you'll find yourself on the brink,

Of a situation so entrenched,
You can only have a war.
It's so hard digging through the bullshit,
You wonder what a shovel's for.

But ultimately it's about your life,
And making sure your time's well-spent.
It's amazing how often we need reminding,
That the time's gone once it's went.

Oh, it's alright,
Just close your eyes and think,
What else you'd rather do right now.
more than anything.

Keep Up Appearances

Beware of complacency,
For everybody knows,
Who is not a psychopath,
How quickly admiration goes,

When your admiration goes first,
For it never goes one way.
And, though you may think you're unreplacable,
Everyone is one day.

So, keep up appearances right to the end.
It's not a lie, but survival,
And if you want to prove this theory,
make your best friend into your rival,

By being alright,
With her misfortune,
So much so that you benefit by it,
And see how fast you are alone.

Run

Going through a corridor,
As fast as you can,
Passing doors and passageways,
Without knowing where you've ran,

Running for fear of nothing,
You know anything about,
And not learning anything,
You know anything about,

And still complaining you have no time,
To get anything done.
Stop and look inside of you,
For some direction.

Because, it's alright,
To flail around,
If there is some sort of intent,
And you're not just unsound.

What Will You Be?

What will you be?
Will you figure it out?
Will you rebel against what your mind tells you,
Just to snuggle with doubt?

Just to have something to blame,
For your lack of happiness,
Other than yourself,
You'll name society's mess.

You'll call your parents wrong and drink a lot,
And fool yourself,
Into thinking you're as happy as can be,
Given you've had no help.

It's alright,
We can't all succeed,
And be happy, or else,
There'd be nothing anyone needs.

Making It Feel Right

There are new things,
Under the sun,
And, of course,
Not everything's been done,

So, why is so much time spent,
Doing what we know,
Assuming that how things are done,
Is how things should go?

Maybe it's because,
It's society's plan,
To ensure its survival,
To have you not understande,

That it's alright,
To think outside the box,
Not just for the greats,
But for all of us.

Why We Supress Ourselves

Sometimes imagining another life,
Better than your own,
In which you're doing what brings you joy,
With nothing that you owe,

With nothing but encouragement,
For everything that you do,
And accolades and peace and love all around,
Flowing into you,

Can be enough to get you through the day,
And society's banking on that,
For there's no room for everyone to succeed,
And still suppress humanity's nack,

To be alright,
Nay, to be supberb,
And build towers right up to heaven.
Though, why it thinks that way, I am not sure.

The Secret to Happiness

It's all fine and dandy,
To have the freedom to live,
How you want without hurting others,
If you've been given,

The wherewithal to know,
What it is you actually want,
And the means to achieve it,
Which requires a lot,

Of courage to risk what you have,
Or being born, already, with the means,
And, personally, someone with all these attributes,
I have rarely seen,

End up all right,
Because even if you have everything,
Human nature keeps you from being happy,
Unless you are insane.

When Looking Back

When you look back on your life,
What do you think you'll see?
Will you see you managed to do what you want,
In spite of society?

Will the enigma of other people,
And their intents,
No longer be such a puzzle?
Will you now know what they meant?

How will you have done things differently,
To ensure you can say in the end,
"I figured it out, this is what life,
Has always intended."?

That's it, right?
What, everyone wants.
Not to be called a fool,
At the end of our romps.

Strife

Emptiness can rush in so quickly,
Like a tsunami after earthquake,
Leaving all you ever did, meaningless,
So that your heart breaks,

And the cause is as mysterious,
As how the Monarch knows to fly south,
In search of that honeysuckle,
When three generations have done something else.

But that emptiness is nothing more,
Than a product of your mind,
For someone else in the exact same place,
May have much more value to find.

So, though it's alright,
To put the blame on your life,
That is a choice, like all else,
And does not reflect true source of your strife.

Outside The Box

What would you give up,
To have everything you want,
Or, at least, a chance at it?
Would you give up your job?

Would you give up the ones you love,
Or, at least, give up giving them,
The things your life affords you,
For your dedication,

To the way things are?
Because that's what you're paid for not:
The work you do,
But keeping off the detours,

That show up left and right and,
Tempt you to say,
That how how you've learned to see the world's,
Not the right way.

Born This Way

Every single day,
You can do so much,
After completing the routine that,
Allows you such,

Freedom and power,
Like those with so much money,
They could buy a car every day of their lives,
And never see,

An end to what they have.
The only difference is that,
Instead of taking time to buy a car,
You're trying to increase what you have,

To be alright,
In the eyes of others and yourself,
Though without the God-given privilege,
Of inconceivable wealth.

The Over Producers

Some people seem to get quite a lot,
Done within their life,
Which, in turn, makes the ambitious feel,
Not very nice,

Until you reflect upon some of the factors,
Allowing them the capability,
Often times beginning with privilege,
And a selfish mentality,

And then, once you are in a position,
That others see you as a producer,
You have a network of people to help you,
And grow into a network.

And you have the right,
To do all of these things, too,
And once you get the momentum,
In a short time, there's a lot that you can do.

Run From Success

The farther you get down,
A road you shouldn't traverse,
Because every part of your body,
Screams, 'things are getting worse!',

Don't abandon your route,
Because those voices could be wrong,
Scared by the possibility,
That all along,

You're on your way to doing,
What you do best,
A task with a lot of responsibility,
And you don't want, lest,
You lose it, alright?
Yes, that's our greatest fear:
Not that we don't get what we want,
But that what we want's too near.

Revolutionary Alternatives

When you feel like you are being,
Unfairly compromised,
And that your life is not your own,
And your rights are being denied,

You can't think or say,
What you want,
For how you will affect others,
And the government,

You may try another tack,
As some say,
And adress the conditions that led,
To things being this way,
And, hopefully, that will be alright,
Enough for you to vent,
The frustrations you are feeling,
Of how your life has went.

The Jenny Sun

Where does the sun go,
In the dark of night,
When everything seem to stand still,
Until the break of light,

When tomorrow is just an idea,
Whose time will never come,
Until from out of some hideaway,
Here comes the sun?

And the glory of a sunrise,
Lies in the birth of a new day,
For, wherever that sun has been hiding,
It's always born to be this way.

You see, it's alright,
For a new day always comes,
Threatening to wash away the bad,
And promising the death of complication.<\blockquote>

The Right Work

When you are asked to do,
More than you can,
With no avenue for an excuse,
When you fail again,

And you don't believe there is someone else,
Who would be able to achieve,
All that's asked, but, of course, that doesn't matter,
'Cause completions not what they need.

They need the burden available,
Until there's someone they like to play with,
Then all those tasks will suddenly melt away,
And congeal again onto someone else.
Alright, enough,
There's got to be something else,
That doesn't make you feel like you're inferior,
Or make you want to redefine yourself.

Hidden Oppression

We all know a democracy,
Is the best place to live,
In relation to these other countries,
Because you're allowed to give,

Your opinion on anything,
You don't like about the government,
As long as you're so poor you have nothing to live for,
Or so rich you dont give a shit,

For, of course, if you have a job which you need,
For the survival of your way of life,
Then it's better not to rock the boat,
And just keep in line,

For it's alright,
In principal to have a thought,
But if it challenges the status quo,
Beware of what you've bought.

Just Get By

Can you make your opinion known,
Without taking a side?
Can you get anywhere,
Without taking a ride?

If you want to get in the world,
And participate,
It's impossible not to step on toes,
Unless you're a lightweight,

Unless you are totally soulless,
And yet have no ambition,
And can get through a whole Oprah,
Without an opinion.

Oh, it's alright,
Go ahead and be unimportant.
I know it's not a big al for you,
And all the players are counting on it.
