The Secret To Happiness

If you never had to deal with,
Anything evil again,
So much so that it never existed,
Would you be happy, then?

A simple question with a simple answer,
Because isn't happiness,
Freedom from evil? So the answer,
Is surely, yes.

Of course, some may say that without evil,
You wouldn't even know you were happy,
Living in a blissful ignorance,
Like Adam and Eve.

Which is right,
And which is why evil is necessary,
If you want to have consciousness,
Otherwise, you could be simply happy.

A Lesson In Fatherhood

What will a child remember,
When he grows up big and strong?
Will it be the times you encouraged him,
Or when he strung you along,

To a point of immense frustration,
When rather than support growth,
Of curiousity and exploration,
You swore an oath,

And taught him that there should be restraints,
But didn't explain exactly when?
Let's hope he understands the point of it all,
Is to respect other humans.

'Cause it's alright,
To put boundaries in one's life,
As long as they are to protect others,
And not to stifle what you feel is right.

The Value of You

There isn't much time now,
To do what you'd like to do,
Which is ironic because you're on vacation,
Aren't you?

And any minute someone will be saying,
'It's time to do this.'
And you'll have to do it because usually,
You're not free to exist,

As you'd like because there is work,
Which is what you do,
To gain the means to be free,
Don't you

But, it's alright,
One day it won't be like this,
Humanity will figure out,
That you don't need money to exist.

The New Socialism

Money has no more power,
Once you take it into you,
And it is no longer external,
But more akin to who,

You are, just as is your crabbiness,
Or penchant for caviar.
Once we're valued by the value we have,
Then we can go a bit farther,

And put that value right in a chip,
Right into our skin,
And redistribute value equally,
Among the population.

Of the world, alright?
Yes, I'm talking socialism,
But with new way to redistribute wealth,
With a new technological bent.

You're F'd If You're Not Born Knowing What You Want

There are always chances to do,
What you want to do,
The opportunities are infinite,
Though they don't seem so to you,

And each one requires,
Some kind of sacrifice.
You probably know all your choices,
But are too damn nice,

To alienate those you love,
Because that's what the hardest choices take,
Because by the time you know what you want,
Many more choices are made,

Which is alright,
If you've no investment in them,
But if they grew love in you,
It's a conundrum.

The Secret To Enjoying Life

Life offers many opportunities,
To enjoy it,
Though they are all in the moment,
And need to end to appreciate,

What it was that it gave to you,
And that appreciation also often means,
Depression sets in because you've lost it,
And have to search for new beginnings.

And you often also realize,
That those moments of enjoyment,
Were not perfect and some things have to change,
Which is a predicament,

Because you're not alright,
The dragon will never be caught,
And life will continue, and you will get old,
Whether you like it or not.

A Jumble

Everything is alright,
It always is,
Except when you are taken by force,
And the oppression never eases,

It's then that you are tested ultimately,
On your decision to interpret,
Every moment as meant to be,
As if it'll lead to some conquest,

That will redeem you from all life's shit,
Though there is one question to ask,
'If your victory hasn't yet come,
What's the point of all of it?'

And you're right, it's alright,
Everything happpens for a reason,
Bad things happen because there are bad people,
And has nothing to do with redemption.

Anything But Sad

Sadness is necessary,
For a balanced life,
And when you know you have no more,
You better find some strife,

You better find someone to cause you grief,
Because you know what they say,
If you don't know who is the drag in the room...
Well, I'll just let those cards lay.

And sometimes you won't know where to go,
But know you have to go anyway,
And it may not be the prettiest route,
But it's better than to stay.

And it's alright,
If you just disappear,
And re-emerge as a something new.
Do you hear?

Know Your Place, Know Your Value

Sometimes you find yourself,
In a situation impossible,
Dealing with people you can't believe,
Exist in this world.

But it takes all kinds and it's good to know,
A significant amount,
From all spectrums of possibility,
So you can find out,

For yourself and so realize,
That you may be a commodity,
That you are not a dime a dozen,
Do you see,

How you'll be alright?
Just understand your place,
Amongst the myriad of people around,
Who appreciate your taste.

The Double-Life Possibility

The difficulty in convincing,
Someone that you should live,
More than one life is that no one really wants,
To give,

Unless there's something of perceived greater value,
Coming to them in return.
Thank god one person's trash suffices as another's treasure,
Or the world wouldn't turn,

Which is why money doesn't turn it at all,
It's value that lubricates,
The natural space between people,
And that can take any shape.

So, it's alright,
If you want to live a double-life,
As long as never the twain shall meet,
You should be alright.

It Doesn't Have To Kill You, But Something Does

Nothing can give you stress,
Like something given you,
At work, that demands to be done,
With very few,

Forgivenesses, like time and resources.
It's very unlike life,
With no love, freedom or option to opt out,
It cuts you like a knife.

And this stress cuts back on your life.
It's a menace, making you do,
Something you'd never think of,
Or want to.

And it's alright,
You can always quit,
And be left with the pain of idleness,
And debt.

The World's Opinion in the Face of Failure

There can be a point,
Where confidence is not enough,
To complete the task that you want to,
Because the world is just too rough,

And there are stories of confrontation,
In which our hero still stands proud,
In the face of complete and utter defeat,
But what about what's under her shroud?

What about when she's lying down,
At the end of the day,
Without victory or spoils?
And she cries as she lays.

It's alright,
She's just another casualty,
Of this non-stop, unforgiving world.
Welcome to reality.

Not Wanting What You Want, But Living As You Want

Is doing what you want to,
Anything more than,
Doing things the way you want to,
And leaving it at that?

Because the grass is always greener,
And yadda, yadda, yadda,
And when will you ever be able to say,
'I have everything I oughta.'?

You can't possibly know what you need,
To feel completely satisfied,
But you can certainly do things in a way,
To generate pride.

And it's alright,
If you don't buy this.
Life is yours, and not knowing yourself is,
Your prerogative.

The Town Is Yours

Every day's a new day,
With new possibilities,
Like a blast from the past,
That threatens all sensibilities,

And everything you've built,
Without thinking of those,
Who feel they have claim,
To your success and your soul,

Though you have to remember,
No one owns anything,
Especially your life,
Except their own reasoning,

Which makes it alright,
To do what you want,
Just remember that's true,
For the others we taunt.

The Golden Rule

The world in which you act today,
Is not the one you'll be in the next,
And suddenly your actions today,
Won't make a lot of sense,

And hopefully, they weren't such,
That they fly in the face,
Of what the world now believes,
And leaves you in disgrace.

But short of doing nothing,
Lest you do something to offend,
You have to live, so how do you live?
By doing unto others, my friend.

And it's alright,
Or rather, everything will be,
If you stick to the golden rule,
Even if it means your life is boring.

Don't Expect People to Change

Stupid is,
As stupid does,
So is genius, meanness,
And love.

And observing one of these,
And many more,
Over a lifetime and you will find,
They shine from a core,

That starts one way from entering this world,
And does not change.
Even mystic epiphanies,
Result in variations within a range.

And it's alright,
If you've been fooled in the past.
Fool is as a fool does,
So that probably won't be the last.

Envy Unfounded

Others seem magical,
Yes, this I know,
Until you ask to see the content of,
The bullshit that they throw.

And you don't have to be angry at them,
For wanting to make more of their life.
It's your responsibility not to give them,
Anything you actually like,

And don't want to lose,
'Cause they won't know what to do,
With your precious things, and destroy them,
In front of you.

And you're alright,
If you don't have magical things happening,
No one does, it's all sleight of hand,
And fabricating.

There Is Life After Stress

Everything comes to an end,
Good or bad,
Stressful or euphoric,
Nothing ever lasts.

And this knowledge can help you appreciate,
When things are great,
And get you through ones,
You simply hate,

Because there is no defining moment,
That makes you who you are for eternity,
Because you're defined by your actions,
And action's required constantly.

And it's alright,
If it all seems to be coming to a head,
Life is filled with these all or nothing moments,
That end up forgotten.

Actions Speak Louder Than Words

Being honest isn't good enough,
If it doesn't lead,
To some change in the world around you,
Or attainment of some need,

Because the value of any opinion,
Is based on what you do,
Based on what it is that you said,
And the relationship between the two,

Because honesty comes in more than words,
Unless you believe everything is language,
Then words are in everything,
And speaking's only on the edge,

Of where you're alright,
And don't have to talk to anyone,
Because your actions speak louder than words,
And what's clear is your irritation.

You Ready

Once you open yourself,
To the possibility,
That you can connect with another person,
Unconditionally,

All the words that you have ever read,
Speaking to such an absurdity,
Portend other worlds you were told about,
But thought were fantasy,

Like peace and love and self-confidence,
And getting what you really need,
Which you can't point to before you have it,
In reality.

And it's alright,
If you never realize the possibility,
Most people don't, and those who do,
Will never let on that there is anything.

The Ups and Downs are Not Real

It all changes so quickly,
Doesn't it?
But, then, it doesn't really, at all,
Just your perception of it,

And even that is relying upon,
The assumption that what you see is,
More than just your seeing,
Of it,

Which in the end doesn't matter at all,
Only how intense is the pain,
And sometimes when I think of where we have been,
I want to cut out my own brain.

Both really and metaphorically, alright?
It hasn't done me much good anyway,
Between the choices and the infinitesimal,
Amount of information retained.

The Effects Of No Confidence

The thing about confidence,
Is it has nothing to do,
With who you are or what it is,
You can actually do,

But there's a switch somewhere in your brain,
That is only off or on,
Which, when engaged creates a perfectly,
Engaging person,

That others believe in, simply because,
Their own switch is on 'off',
And they feed from the nutrients you exude,
Eradicating their impending sobs.

And it's alright,
If you don't know where to find the switch,
As long as it is already on.
Otherwise, you're kind of undistinguished.

Fool Yourself

You will never know,
How good it could have been,
Or how bad and so, therefor,
How good or bad it really is,

For could you be happy,
If you knew you could have more,
Or be doing something more satisfying,
Than what you're doing, or,

Not have to worry about anything,
Not money, others or yourself?
Don't forget you're born into ideals,
Chosen by someone else.

And it's alright,
To fool yourself,
Into believing you have it good,
You don't know anything else.

How To Get Ahead

The waves of success,
Of anyone,
Are so fleeting that to catch one with them,
Is quite an occasion.

And to catch one of your own should be easier,
For you only need to be at the right time,
For the place is where you always are.
Does this, yet, sound fine?

To put it another way, what if you failed,
To do all that you wanted to?
Is that a result of circumstances,
Or because of you?

It's you, alright?
There's no magic to it.
The world is there for you to conquer,
Now, conquer it.
