A Wath is a Syllabic Lyric poem with four four-line stanzas, the last stanza being indented, each stanza following the rhyming scheme a-b-c-b. Metre consists of hexametric and decametric lines, with one tetrameter beginning the last stanza. There is no set rhythm, but it is ultimately meant to be put to song.
The Wath addresses an issue in the first three stanzas and offers a solution or resolution in the fourth.
