The Self

Yes, you never age on the inside,
Your thoughts never change.
The root of all you are is flowing,
Though continuously rearranged,

Like water from the sky is just like water,
That trickles from the lip of a glass,
So, also, what you are suffuses your body,
In whatever way it presents itself as,

From the child in awe of this new world,
To the drugged, reckless youth breaking it,
The responsible adult trying to keep it together,
Finally, aged, wondering what it all is.

The body changes,
And so changes how you express,
But that expression's always the same,
Because who you are is timeless.
