Independence

I was caught in an elevator,
That was like a cage dangling over an abyss.
I didn't panic, but I wasn't a hero.
Is my entire life like this?

I also climbed up a street steeper than a wall,
And I finally made it over the hump.
I could have waited for the bus instead,
But was committed to self-motivation.

Finally I proved myself an adult to my parents,
When I went home alone from my uncle's place.
In one night I proclaimed my independence,
By distancing myself from the human race.

And it's alright,
I guess you do what you have to do.
And if that means you're an island unto yourself,
You do it for nobody else but you.
