Excuses

You have to start at the lowest,
To get as high as you can,
And where that spot is depends on your approach,
And not on where you think you stand.

The hard work comes when you are not aware,
And only seems that way in retrospect,
And you can moan about the hard times,
While you enjoy the hard times' opulence.

I may not be right because I'm not there yet,
And each day passing makes it harder to gauge.
Everyone should have the opportunity,
But that is not how everyone was raised.

And it's alright,
As long as I have something to blame,
I can't feel that bad about not succeeding,
At what I always thought was mine to claim.
